extremely fun, the best combat in the series by far. love yagami and his gang. only gripe is that the side content is pretty unfinished. half the school stories suck and a lot of substories are redundant. great game though

does the multiple protagonists schtick slightly better than yakuza 4 (there was nowhere to go but up). saejima's part sucks and the finale is dumb but everything else is solid and this games combat is quite fun. the most yume game to ever do it.

for a shorter game a lot of the story feels kind of pointless, but it really sticks the landing with the best finale in the series. that aside its a nice bite sized yakuza, very fun and the arena rocks.

this game is big. really really big. despite that, it never felt bloated and I found the pacing of the story overall to be much better than in 7. the sheer amount of stuff to do is wonderful, though it does result in the game forcing many long, unskippable tutorials on the various side activities and this became very frustrating over time, though these were mostly concentrated in the first half of the game.
the game's story is also "big". perhaps too big for its own good, as the game has many different plot threads at work, and while I enjoyed most of these threads individually, I don't think it all tied together all that well. yakuza 4 and 5 were like this as well though I vastly enjoyed this game's narrative more than those games. it's a gripping story that I liked overall but I also feel that there was a lot of missed or wasted potential, particularly with what was set up in 7 and gaiden.
the RPG gameplay is a massive improvement over 7 though. i absolutely hated the combat and rpg mechanics in yakuza like a dragon but I had a lot more fun in this one. its still a bit shallow and there are a couple difficulty spikes and slumps but it's a big step in the right direction.

didnt nail everything it tried to do storywise, its not a great conclusion for kiryu, but something about this game made it so much more engaging than a lot of the previous entries. i like.

the three (or 4) styles play a lot better than in zero but the boss fights are worse because of that dumb health recharge mechanic. not a very good remake i think but its still fun

loved ichiban, loved what the story was trying to say, did not love the pacing, absolutely hated everything about it as a turn based rpg. the combat is slow, clunky, lacks depth, lacks basic quality of life that 20+ year old rpgs have, terrible dungeons/long battles, terrible damage sponge bosses, annoying enemies, forced grinding, awful job system. once the charm of the wacky attacks and jobs wears off this game is genuinely one of the worst turn based games ever released in the 21st century.

the combat isnt the worst thing ever but its not good either. the real biggest problem with this game is how dull the plot is after kiryu leaves okinawa. i would rather have a full game of him being a dad to those kids than whatever bullshit happened with the CIA and that dogshit villain Mine

the yakuza 4 sure are a swell group of dudes. there also should not be 4 of them, its one of the many things contributing to what a sloppy clusterfuck of a plot this game has. a bit more fun than yakuza 3, still not the best to play.

i havent even played yakuza 2 and i can easily tell how much they butchered that game. the combat being more polished than yakuza 6 also makes it less fun because its still not good. this game really makes you hate the color green
