Basically takes every enemy placement problem in SOTFS away

The internet lied to me, vanilla is far superior to SOTFS

Gets almost everything about DARK SOULS wrong and is unspeakably ugly.

Hmmmm:D It's actually a great game, I've invested quite a few hours in it. Most of the bosses are so incredibly boring, just strafe around them and hit them from time to time and you'll get through the whole game. The game is far too big, quantity over quality, unfortunately that's how it often feels. Some areas are interesting (Armana looks cool but plays like ass^^, Drangleic Castle though <3), the DLC was great except for a few bosses (the three NPCs in the first DLC or Smelter 2 in the second DLC...uninspired) ...and all the references to Dark Souls 1 also seem totally artificial (Iron Tarkus is now called Tark and is a scorpion? What?^^)

Judging by the recent wave of sweaty Arena PvP Nerds and irony-poisoned Youtube Video Essayists all seemingly collectively drooling over this game all of a sudden, one would think we were all wrong back in the days when preemptively judging DS2 for its poor design and, well, no. No we weren't, as this game, while possibly over-hated, sure, it's really not something I would call good, especially when compared to the other entires in the Souls trilogy, heck, even when comparing it to more modern Souls-likes it genuinely doesn't stand a chance and you're better off looking somewhere else. Unless of course, you like struggling with clunky controls when navigating rooms full of copy-pasted enemies just to reach underwhelming and mechanically simplistic bosses. For everyone else (Normal People) you'll have more fun with the 3rd game in the series.

this video game should not exist actually. you didn't have to make a sequel to dark souls. no one would blame you if you didn't

I've gone through a lot of the emotions one could have regarding this game. I once thought it was Fine, I once hated it and I once loved it. It is awful, it spits in the face of any form of Good Game Design put forward by Demon's Souls and Dark Souls in service of pushing the idea of "dark souls is hard, right? let's just make it really hard they'll love that shit" without putting any thought into making the game Good in service to That. If Dark Souls is a Game For Freaks, Dark Souls 2 is a game for the Freaks that the Freaks can't handle. People love to hate this game and people love to be contrarians about Not Hating this game, and people love to hate this game to be contrarian towards the people who are being contrarians about liking this game (It often comes off as pointlessly cyclical discourse in which people are either liking or hating the game for cred through discrediting the people who feel the opposite way and I don't care to engage in it. These are my Raw Feelings. Like or Dislike Dark Souls 2 at Your Own Discretion). Dark Souls 2 is a Deep Pit of Depression from which I cannot escape. It is a shadowy enigma of undelivered-upon-vaguepromises and experimentally-safe-yet-horrid game design within an already experimental series of Video Games. Dark Souls 2 is a zero-sum game. Without Dark Souls 2 we don't have the massive over-correction of a Greatest Stinkers Album that Dark Souls 3 is. Dark Souls 2 is Two.

I accidentally deleted my save file for this game twice and had to play through the majority of it three times so I have it on good authority that this game is genuinely pretty great

This is by far the hardest souls game for me fume knight killed me far too many times, the story and atmosphere is similar to that of 1 good.

Wow this game is a hot mess, but I kinda like it....I can fix her....

Dark Souls 2 was my first Fromsoftware game, and to be honest for a while it was at the top of my list. However, after playing some of the other games the developers have made, I can't really in good faith write a great review of the game when Smelter Demon exists. Jokes aside, this game has fantastic world building, and I really digged most of the lore associated with this game. However I cannot deny the facts. The ADP stat is just plain stupid, and while there are some really good bosses in here, most of them are real stinkers. I've heard great things about the PvP in this game, but I have never been into PvP in these games. Overall, I enjoy it and think that it is a better game than the first, but not nearly as much as I did before, and it certainly has many faults. The DLC's are all fire though.

Isso é tão melhor que DS3. Ahhahh

A heavily derivative experience that overlooks and misunderstands most of what made its predecessor great.
Generic bosses, terrible movement, ridiculous enemy placement, and some of the worst level designs in a game are some of the numerous burdens Dark Souls II carries. Still, it has interesting combat and multiplayer innovations and is not absolutely unberable like its counterpart, Scholar of the First Sin, which is an experience only masochists can enjoy.

This is a deeply flawed game, but it can still be enjoyed by patient players.

Probably the "best" Dark Souls, even if it isn't personally my favorite.

its so over-hated please just play it for yourself and see how you think it is

How many times can you have a profound videogame experience? Which ones can be repeated? Before it all goes hollow.

Here’s Anor Londo, drowned. Here’s the Palace of Boletaria, overgrown. The sequel as remix. Except shallower, to be toured rather than inhabited, built by level designers instead of architects.

Here are more bosses, here is more death. The sequel as more. More environments, segmented by more bonfires, cluttered with more enemies at once. And less memorable. With less character. Less soul.

Dark Souls 2 is a decent enough sequel. And I do not accept the premise of the videogame sequel.

ds2 defenders be like "ohhh it inspired so much stuff in elden ring and it has a cool art direction" look boo hoo your game still sucks and has the worst/easiest bosses in the entire series

Adaptability is dumb af and it's even dumber that they don't tell you what it really means (it doesn't tell you it makes I Frames different go fuck yourself thats a dumb change)

Covetous demon is too attractive i cant focus on the fight

The best souls game. No, like, really. Emphasizes the slow and deliberate nature of combat of dark souls with an interesting healing system. It has some fun new game mechanics, like the power stance. Has a very different approach to world building and storytelling when compared to the other games, and it resonates extremely well with the themes. Has some of the best moments in the series, but also some of the worst. Does not deserve the bad reputation it gets.

It's funny how out of all the DemonSoulsBorneKiroRing™ games, Dark Souls II is the one that's mostly designed to be hard just for the sake of being hard, but in practice it's still the easiest game in the series in my experience just because of how slow and cheeseable everything is.

Idk sometimes I say to myself “it’s not that bad you know “

A flawed gem that gets harder to return to with every passing year. Content rich, and yet none of the content is that great. Mechanically stodgy, yet rich. Strangely incomplete, and yet with the DLC's it's huge and satisfying.

A truly bizarre game, whose fundamental black sheep status will only make it weirder as time goes on. Mystical atmosphere. Daring in ways that 3 didn't dare be. Iconic fragments of lore and character buried under snide writing and fan service in its sequel.

A sunrise or a sunset? Accidental genius or dogshit rescued to be something half decent? Likely both. A special game despite itself. Unforgettable, both for the ways in which it is average and the ways in which it excels.

A crucial playthrough for a new and voracious From Soft fan.

ainda acho bom mas perdeu muito da nostalgia que eu tinha com ele, agora rejogando no pc entendo a maioria das críticas que faziam.

(não joguei a SOTFS e nem as dlcs ainda)

Done in just after DS1. All the playthrough I was thinking "cant wait to finish it so i can play DS3".

more like ... dark souls poo (it rhymes with 2, please laugh at this)

Objectively, DS3 and even Bloodborne are better games in every way.

And yet I find myself going back to DS2 over and over again. So much more replayable than every other SB game, with the exception of OG Dark Souls.

having played it, it's no surprise why fans of the series say this is the best one

The level design of this game reminds me of when I made levels for games as a kid and just put a bunch of enemies in one place to make it harder.
