Used the pussy ass version of Raiden from the new game Konami put out last year instead of the iconic and badass MGR Rising version, Epic Games are a bunch of sellouts

On Friday, January 5th, I got a ping in a discord server consisted of one friend group about an impromptu Fortnite get-together. Since I admittedly regained an interest in playing it, and because said friend server has yet to really do much for several months, I decided to take the opportunity to see how the game has transformed and evolved over the years. Installed the dreaded EGS launcher, got marginally but not totally surprised by the increased file size, and proceeded to log back into my account from years prior. After all, it's only gonna be just for a few days, and then I’m off to uninstall it...

...but things didn't pan out that way. What has happened instead, was a transformation into becoming an Epic Fortnite Gamer. A near 3-week foray, money spent on the Battle Pass and both Gambit and Rouge skins, and grinding my way towards unlocking Peter Griffin's page, all while accumulating levels, Ranked medals, and other knick-knacks along the way. Life really does come at ya fast when you least expect it!

To go more in-depth into my prior experience: I'm very much someone who first played Fornite's at-the-time new Battle Royale format, played a couple of matches - both with my completely separate and no longer in touch friend group and solo - and thought it was kinda neat but really lacking in staying power. I'm uncertain if I was also one of many that thought it was simply gonna be a fad that'll fade away, since this was nearly 7 years ago now, but it matters naught since it's still here, and about as popular as it was since then. There's no need to cover much of what it's about, cause even if you never played it, you certainly know of it and the appeal, so I'm just gonna make this a thorough dumping ground of my thoughts as someone who finally came back to the bus.

Firstly, and more importantly, I'm glad that Zero Build is a mode that can be opted into. Now, I'm not besmirching the mechanic in its holistic entity, but I will admit one of the reasons I fell off pretty quickly originally was because of the gap between people who can build (especially PC players), and people who can't (especially console players). You can be a quickshot all you want, but as long as the other guy can spontaneously build a Jenga tower or a Minecraft fortress to recuperate quickly, your choices are to either eat shit, continue to pester them, or just give up and bolt out entirely. These types of encounters, to me, are fine in doses - the risk-reward allure is just balanced enough that it isn't entirely irritating, and the satisfaction method is incredible! That, however, begins to dissolve into ruin when it occurs ad nauseum, tying itself into state of the loop, and altogether just demotivates my ass since the most I can do is a stairway to heaven and maybe a few walls despite my flicks of the mouse and sensitivity zones. Even with the practice mentality, there's also the fact that, again, it's been 7 years - if you've played any sort of multiplayer shooter in mind, you'd know that there's a good chance that any sort of tech people know about, will inject and hone their craft to it to days on end, and I've seen plenty opponents do some shit that simultaneously leaves me fascinated and discontented. So, just having a mode where there's little frills to that, is appreciated, even if I do tap back into the regular option every now and then.

The other thing is that there's like... actual POIs and side activities now. I recall these being a thing in 2017, but it was a lot more minimalistic and very much in the vein of "we needed something to have players distract themselves and play the game with". Solid enough base, but combine that with the haphazard loop I had before, it again just made the dull grind even more prevalent. That nagging aspect is still present, but it's way easier to tolerate and avoid now. Vehicles, more movement options when doing on-foot roaming, an entourage group to pick off and reap rewards from to better your gamestate, and just the overall map layout is way, way more satisfying to convey and poke around than ever, even if I'm not entirely sure how prior seasons were like. Hell, this also obfuscates the other big critique that was going on at the time, which was how spacious people could become. Rarely has the thought of "man this is kinda boring" occur now since everything feels more fulfilling to explore and do, especially using grapple blades atop various points and just ZOOOOOOOOMING to where I need to go, or just ramming bogeys and guffawing at how high they get launched, or doing dopey motorbike tricks across hilltops. It's neat! It's exciting! It just about upends most of the issues I had to begin with!

I really don't have much else to like, add at this point, aside from some qualms:

- The bots here are on the opposite spectrum end of TF2's Bot Crisis; instead of being hammered down by some flagrant creations stopping any sort of enjoyment I can muster, there's more of an awe factor over how braindead they can be. I'm not quite sure how the system itself operates, but while I know and understand they're a necessity to fill up empty spaces, that becomes highly questionable when I see these guys fuck up easy picks, do some bizarre pathfinding and routine interactions, and somehow overcompensate within a quarter at most of the 100-player pool. This is the least egregious of the three ire I'm covering, but even then it's just... confounding. Not sure what's going on here!

- Aside from BR, there's now Lego Fortnite, Rocket Racing, and Festival. I only used LF briefly cause of an XP exploit, but I did at least put actual time into RR and Festival, and I'm thoroughly unimpressed with both. The former's a really dull and barebones arcade racer that couldn't even compete with some of the more straightforward affairs during the 5th Console Gen Boom, and well, Cold_Comfort goes over the woes of Festival even if I'm not that harsh about it. One could say these can be ignored since the main aspect is BR, but since they're easily visible upon the main bar of the lobby, I feel like it's fair game to expect these to be in a commendable quality - especially since Epic Games have been making big talk about user-generated content and have seemingly been in a stronger push in competing with Roblox.

- Since this is an ongoing season, solidifying and boxing the current meta state is tricky. What I can say for now though is that, with the feel of everything being good on a base level, there's a clear power imbalance. There's absolutely no reason to pick up the Hammer Pump variant of the shotgun, since Frenzy Auto has a strictly higher DPS and can easily mulch people by comparison; same goes for the Enforcer AR, being pitifully outclassed in speed and output by the Nemesis and especially Striker variants; I don't have any major beef with the Lock-On Pistol, due to its four-charge shots contains a slight buffer between each piece + all while leaving the player vulnerable should they be careless (especially to someone who Knows What They're Doing)... but the availability of this is perplexes me. I've gone entire games without either my downed foes or myself finding it, meanwhile I can simply trip across Ballistic Shields, a weapon that sounds about as good as it does while also not being nearly as OP as it sounds or others postulate, despite that being in a higher rarity color. Weird little quirks like that making the fights distinct but also just sort of headscratching as to where they could go. Also, maybe an Issue Of Skill, but I’ve seen instances of a bullet from my sniper shots clearly hitting its mark, but then somehow never registering?

I actually can’t recall the last time a multiplayer game had its pull on me quite like this, perhaps Among Us which had faced similar views. May keep this on for the time being until I actually do procure the Griffin or maybe Solid Snake since he’s close to being unleashed upon the world. I’m not sure where and how this chapter will go next, but if nothing else, it at least pulled me back in after years of inquisitive glances and intrigue. It is also carrying one of the most important mantles of any piece of fiction: having multiple patient zeros that will cajole someone into becoming a furry. Truly, this is a blessed time!

Love pretty much everything here except for whatever the hell they did to the ui

Coming off the back of the OG season which was Fortnite's biggest player peak ever, this season in my opinion really delivers. I love the addition of weapon modifications, they make the smaller loot pool feel very different each game. New map took a bit of getting used to for me but in the end I liked the locations enough.

Battlepass was pretty good, Peter Griffin being in it feels like a fucking fever dream. I think that Fortnite is moving away from doing an overall storyline which at this time in the games lifespan might be the best move. The addition of the other games was novel at first but I haven't touched any of them in months. Quick ranking below:

1. Fortnite Festival - (Im a big guitar hero fan so fav by default)
2. Lego Fortnite - (Really cool concept but not enough content)
3. Rocket Racing - (From what I played it was the same thing over and over again)

I really enjoyed this season, eager to see where Fortnite goes from here

"I haven't been in this good shape since the last time I saw that cat doctor."

Fortnite is a marvel of a game. You can say what you want about epic and big corpo game dev, but Fortnite was and is a trendsetter in many ways. It's also gorgeous to look at and just pure fun. From time to time I feel the urge to go back for it to find out what's new and I'm never disappointed. The only reason I'm not playing it throughout the year, is, because there is just too much else going on and fomo kicks hard. Y'all know what I'm talking about.

This season was the first great one in a VERY long while. The last two chapters have been not the greatest due to their medicore seasons and short lengths as chapters. This season was truly great, the train was a cool new format of transportation and when mixed with the fun map made for a great traversal system. The guns in this season were also great as well as the bosses, there was also not a bad skin in the battle pass which was good and to top it all off snake and raiden are now in the game.

A great return to form after Chapter 4. While I think the grind was a bit too hard to get certain items; the loot pool, battlepass, and map were all fantastic. Alongside all of that, the additions of fortnite festival, lego fortnite, and rocket racing were new additions. An overall great season

If Epic games was a girlfriend she'd be the type to kick your balls (UI change) and then give you a sloppy kiss (Peter griffin)

Huh, that's odd, I thought that would be big news.

Do you know how fucking insane it is that fortnite is like actually genuinely the best multiplayer game out right now. like they have fucking Raiden from Metal Gear Solid 2, Naruto Uzumaki, Peter Griffin and Spider-Man i think any game with those 4 characters is automatically good

The last time I played fortnite was in chapter 1 on my switch and didnt really understand but I have to say I really like the movement now and its a lot more fun than I thought it would be

Beggin' on her knees to be popular
That's her dream, to be popular (Ha)
Kill anyone to be popular (Hm)
Sell her soul to be popular (Popular)
Just to be popular (Uh-huh)
Everybody scream 'cause she popular (Ha)
She mainstream 'cause she popular
Never be free 'cause she popular

I somehow put hundreds of hours more compared to the last season. Let's just say Oscar had a constant visitor 😉

The UI changes, alongside the additions of medallions, frenzy auto shotguns, and reaper snipers should net this at least 1.5 stars. But I'm feeling generous so I'll give it 2 more because I like the map and the battle pass skins. Also the TMNT and Dragon Ball collabs are awesome. I should probably be ashamed to say that Peter Griffin is what's motivated to push through this season.

Pretty great season honestly. The Italo map is up there with the strongest the game has ever had, I don't even mind that I'm playing it on max settings and hitting 40fps because it's worth the lumens. Not keen on mods as someone who thinks games keen out too much on firearms as is, and all its implementation here really accomplishes is making half of the sniper rifle drops useless. The medallions are cool because they’re something of a bluffing game. Is this dude carrying the medallions around because he’s a huge badass who can handle multiple players knowing where he is on the map, or is he just an incompetent iPad 9 year old being kept alive by the stock market value of Peter Griffin Coin. I know the additions of Rocket Racing, Lego Fortnite & Festival are technically counted as entirely new standalone games but it's funnier to consider them as just little distractions/cooldowns for after you and your friends have wrapped up a Battle Royale sesh. Like when it comes down to it the Harmonix skeleton crew created a gamemode that is no better than an Only Up obstacle course map. Rly fun, I've been strapped into the Tim Sweeney metaverse electric chair since 2017 and I don't see myself breaking free any time soon, why should I when the Butter Barn's got butter plate specials that'll treat ya right?

They added peter fucking griffin, solid snake, and Jonesy looks like hes cosplaying fucking Ryoma Nagare the game is peak again!

Edit: Some playing of this game much later and a finish of the chapter has left me to say that this chapter is ight, I hate that fuckin Auto shotty.

Yep, it's a good season

What can I say? I Like all the areas, the train heists and boss fights are pretty fun this time round, and it has the guy from Seth McFarlanes familial dude or whatever that show is called.
(On the topic of Seth McFarlane the new ted show is actually pretty good, give it a watch)

"Raiden, forget everything I just told you. The most important thing for you do to now is to buy 1,800 v-bucks and order the Raiden bundle in the Item Shop. Recreate your favorite moments from Metal Gear Solid 2: Guns of Liberty with the Raiden skin, alongside Solid Snake in the Battle pass. And Raiden, always remember to crank 90s and get a victory royale."

Thanks Epic for the XP glitch for the one season I cared about grinding the battle pass for.

Já pode falar que é o melhor capítulo de todos ou tá cedo ainda?

Fortnite is becoming Roblox, in the sense that it's a platform to host various experiences, and I'm actually all for it lol. Aside from the OG season, I haven't had much interest playing Fortnite as of late, so this has been really cool alternatives that still enable me to make use of all the skins I've accumulated over my "prime" years on the game.

Lego Fortnite is cool, it's basically Minecraft but all your skins turn into Lego versions (some skins don't work, which kinda sucks; either because they're "too violent" and not for kids, or because they haven't had enough time to make every Fortnite skin compatible with the mode yet. Some skins have "low-detail" generic appearances).

Fortnite Festival is really cool, a lot of the songs are charted well. The bass solo on Kendrick Lamar - i is really fun to pull off on Hard mode. The Weeknd's songs are well-charted as well. Default controls aren't great, so rebind to ASDF from DFJK if possible. Expert increases the amount of lanes to the traditional five-lane charts found in Rock Band and Guitar Hero.

Rocket Racing is also surprisingly well-designed. I'm slowly climbing in ranked so I can unlock the skin you get for reaching Gold and not only are the tracks fun, but the matchmaking is solid too. Once I was out of Bronze, I felt like I was being matched against people that took decent effort to beat, and your rank gains are fair given the challenge. I played maybe 16 games of mostly 1st place wins got me to Silver II, so you rank up fairly fast all things considered. People can get REALLY sweaty in this game mode, and that makes it kind of unfun, but that's to be expected in a game type that encourages being the best in your lobby to outrace everyone. I'm sure Bronze players felt the same way about me going fast enough to pass the guy in last place, so if you enjoy the competition and don't get annoyed easily by not being good, this one's fun.

After having played the BR this season, I have to say, aside from the humor found in there being a Peter Griffin boss fight, it's not great. I'm not sure if it's just me being burnt out on these kinds of BR shooters now, but I probably won't be playing BR again until they bring back the Ch. 1 map as a perm game mode. In the meantime, these extra experiences are a great way of quickly levelling up in a low-stress way.

I reinstalled this game for the first time since early chapter 2 entirely because they added my sweet angel Peter Griffin as a playable skin. And to my suprise not only did they add Peter himself, but also the iconic Petercopter, Peters' dapper black tie suit, an additional cosmetic that shows Family Guy clips on the player's back AND you can find Peter during a match, kill him (Sadly this step is important as much as I wish it was avoidable) whereupon Mr Griffin will clutch his knee and breath a deep sigh of pain, referencing the incredible Family Guy joke which needs no introduction. Truly gaming does not get better than this.

"HOLY CRAP I'M IN FORTNITE!"
It's now coming to an end, but is a very solid starting season which already adds so much new stuff to the table, while also receiving weird balance changes and below average shop refreshes. It's also the very first Battle Pass I get to complete 100% including the bonus rewards, with only the Odyssey Quests left for me. Here are my thoughts on most of the new things:

Battle Pass (8/10): Great character designs for this season overall, with Jonesy looks the most fire he ever has along with Hope, and then we got the Society members: Doña Florinda, Tigre Toño, diet Midas and Sir Percival. Also the Collabs with the funny Peter Griffin guy and Solid Snake are legendary. The only downside is the Scorpion car, but I guess it's fine enough.

Mechanics (7.5/10): Grappling Blade, Climbing and the Train. The first one is actually really useful to move around and attack by surprise despite being kinda slow; the second one I never used it because it's for constructions in build mode and I don't play that shit LMAO; and the Train is really fun as both as a way of moving around the map and as a mini quest for rewards, though it's not really a great place to go to most of the time...

Content (8/10): Fortnite Festival is a great mode but the songs cost a little too much and some charts are dumpster fire; LEGO Fortnite is fun with friends but I was never into Minecraft in the first place; Rocket Racing feels kinda janky and there's no imagination present on the track designs but dammit I'm a sucker for racing games lol
Also we got a TMNT collab, with a good Battle Pass and great weapons for BR which completely OUTPHASED the grappling blade by a mile, they were that broken.

New map (8/10): Great island with astonishing visuals and biomes, with not too many of those so it doesn't feel overbloated like Chapter 4. The named locations feel natural as well with the Italian/Spanish, and now Greek theme of the chapter.

dude lego fortnite is so peak

A weird mix of awesome and not-so awesome. You know what only has the former? OG!

They finally made me cave, Snake and Peter Griffin in the same battle pass was enough click bate to get me on the game but this is unironically a solid season.
