Excellent fighting game - doubly so if you are a fan of Persona 4. I've since learned that Arc System Works designs fighting games that I actually enjoy, especially when they include a franchise with pre-existing characters I already know and care about.
Played this in an arcade bar when I visited Japan...and boy oh boy, did that screw me up (X's and O's are switched in the States vs Japan).
Chie was my main and a ton of fun to play. I should go back and play Ultimax as well.

Storywise? Fine sequel...gameplay wise, eh not much for me here since I'm not a fighting game guy (gorgeous spritework though and I like how the Personas are utilized), especially story mode feels redundant in the way that..why should I sit through long ass VN parts for a short gameplay? I might as well watch the damn thing on YT, oh well
P4 PELEAS

This is a hell of a package. I especially dug the single player VN component of the game, which basically plays out like more Persona 4. It evokes what's great about Persona 4 while also having enough great moments of its own such that it's not just a retread. Labryss, the new character, is introduced really well and her story is very compelling. It's also a really fun fighting game! Auto-combos are very nice, and even without them it's fun to mash my way through versus matches and arcade modes.
This game made me wish we just got a Persona 3 sequel about Mitsuru and Aigis forming the Shadow Ops and it stayed a JRPG. Labrys was great. And having a verbal protagonist was great. I liked playing as Teddie. Those are all the nice things I have to say.
I did not like the visual novel storytelling. The characterization was bad. The plot was just a rehash of both Persona 4 and Persona 1, even recycling some of the Investigation Team's character development. The reason for fighting was super contrived and playing through the same story repeatedly but just changing the POV character while all contradicting each other did not make for an engaging story. I did not like Persona 4 Golden and I did not expect this game to be worse, but it was so much worse.

The story isn't bad, it's just set up in a way that's way too repetitive, of the 12 scenarios you can get most of what actually matters just by playing 4 of them, the best options in my opinion being Yosuke, Mitsuru, Labrys and Elizabeth. (First two can be swapped out as you like for whichever P3 or P4 character you prefer) Would have benefited from being set up the same way the Ultimax story is, even if it did mean having canon winners.
For what it's worth, decently fun.
First played multiplayer with my friends, I love the graphics in this. The sprite art for every hero and Persona is really cool, and I love the environments.
I played the storymode, which is what I'm logging here. EXTREMELY interesting seeing the P3 and 4 casts meeting, I loved seeing what SEES was up to since The Answer, and seeing the two casts interact was really fun.
Something that I really enjoyed was the fact that The Answer is EXPLICITELY mentioned in this, moreso than the events of 3 and 4. Elizabeth entering her Fools Journey to free Makoto, showing her actually fighting Erebus, and seeing the door Makoto is sealing... oh my god!!! So cool!!!
Also cool every reference they make to their own games. Labrys was a cool inclusion, I like the fact that they are delving more into Persona 3 lore in this Persona 4 spin-off lol.
I am spoiled on the real villain, but if I didn't know any better I'd have thought it was Nyarlathotep!!
One fucked up thing was how non-linear the story was? I pretty much thought that the character stories would continue from one another but they seem to all tell slightly varied stories, which is kinda weird? I'm mostly focused on Yu's, Aigis's, Labrys's, and Elizabeth's.
I enjoyed the story, I'm not sure I loved the visual novel type of whatever that it is, but yeah. It was serviceable. It was pretty much more than I bargained for, lore wise, so I'm actually very satisfied at the end of the day. Feels like a proper sequel to both.
Overall decent, kinda hope Ultimax's story is presented a little better. Weird as hell that we leave off not having a proper resolution to this story lol.
