If you're going to make a fighting game for an extensive franchise like Persona, the appeal will be in bringing everything together. This is P4A's biggest failure. For some ridiculous reason, the game tries to justify itself within canon. This both cuts out a significant portion of the potential cast and relies on a stupid amount of retcon. What's worse is that they don't even put the full cast within canon (they save several characters for the second game, wonder why) which leaves a pretty pathetic roster even by those self-inflicted constraints. It's an all-around disappointment.
This game is also pretty important to me, and yes it ties back to Chihiro let me explain. The story's all well and good, Labrys goes from someone merely mentioned in a P3 Drama CD to having her full story, her pains, and being able to grow from it. The story format itself is really repetitive and it began the great flanderization of P3 and P4's cast (for example, Akihiko only mentions Protein twice in all of P3 but here he is the Protein Junkie for some reason and wrestles bears.), but the payoffs are really good, even explaining certain things you wouldn't expect a game like this to explain or even thought had an explination.
The gameplay is great and I love the Persona system, it's just really unbalanced. Yukiko vs Shabrys is absolutely suffering incarnate since she only has like 3 moves that can break the Bull, two of them being Supers.
But what really made this game special was how it unlocks player tags. Of course, me being me, I wanted to have Chihiro in my tag. However, this game unlocks them randomly, meaning I'd have to play a lot to get her name. I wound up joining a community and playing 1800+ matches, and in those matches I met some dear friends of mine who I still talk with to this day. Even later, I became friends with someone who holds Labrys very dearly, and for most of my online social group from 2012 to this day I have this game and its random name unlocking system to thank.
So yes, making my tag "I Love Chihiro" was very worth it.

(played the story through P4AU)
This game is ridiculously flawed.
most of the characters stories are identical with that character being the main focus that time around and other minor differences, which makes it entertaining at first, but boring after a while. This also makes the structuring make zero sense. which characters story is the canon one? i still have no idea.
There are only two reasons why i don't think this game is bad:
first, the gameplay. not much to say here, considering i don't play too many arcsys games, but they did a good job of turning the concept of persona combat into a fighting game. i still suck at it but i was good enough to finish the story soooo.
second, and i cannot stress this enough: Labrys. oh my god i love labrys. honestly might be one of my favorite characters in the series, her section of the story was so fucking good. legit nearly reduced me to tears.
I definitely recommend this game if you are a fan of persona 3 and 4, and brooklyn accents, but i don't think i would recommend it to anyone else. anyways, onto ultimax.

The segmented story with alternate versions of itself is confusing and awkward, but Labrys is definitely a highlight. The portrayal of the characters ranges from very bad to very good but overall isn’t as offensive as other Persona spinoffs. Above all else, the gameplay and presentation is pretty great. Not that bad, honestly.
Persona 4 arena was an interesting experiment. It's a spinoff of the persona franchise that continues the story of persona 4. I couldn't care less about the narrative aspect because it's a fun as hell fighting game. I absolutely love this "duology" of games and hope that they get a sequel like "persona 5 arena". You should absolutely try it and hey, if you have it, let me know and we'll play some matches.
My first game from Arcsys, wich led me to discover Blazblue (the game that motivated me to learn fighters for real) and Guilty Gear (+R became my favorite fighter of all time).
So yeah, i owe it a lot.
The game itself is pretty good, but Ultimax is better and more accesible. The story mode was boring but Labrys was a very nice addition.
