Not the worst game ever, but as far as action-based survival horror goes, it doesn't really do it for me. I'm surprised to say I enjoyed Dead Space 2 more, especially given how much more action-y it is, but here we are and here I am saying as much.
Maybe it's just me, but all the attempts at jump-scares and ambushes felt extremely obvious to me and it seemed less so in DS2. Love the weapons, either way.

Esto sigue siendo muy entretenido. Se echa en falta más profundidad y menos camino de baldosas amarillas, pero si hay un juego que encapsule bien la experiencia lineal clásica de los AAA es éste.

This is still very entertaining. A little bit of depth and less railroading is sorely limited, but if there's a game that encapsulates early AAA linearity and all its (potential) benefits, it's this title.

This game is awesome. I remember the first time I plaid it. Everytime when I went down a new way my heart nearly burst and the noises and atmosphere make it a great Survival Horror game. Now I plaid it again. It aged not too bad. It isn't the same thing as back then because I knew the weapons of Dead Space but it's still great
Sound design, lighting design and a diegetic user interface work together to create an exceptionally unsettling, immersive atmosphere, helping Dead Space be memorable in spite of its simple, bland plot. Even if exploring is far from engaging, with monotonous level design and mostly basic puzzles, the experience remains decisively enjoyable thanks to a simple but unique combat system, rewarding precision aiming with some strategic nuance and a decent variety of weapons and creatures to slay.

Well damn, that was a good game. Dead Space is the first horror game I've ever played, and I feel like it was a great introduction to the genre. Not only are the graphics simply incredible for 2008 standards, but the atmosphere is highly detailed and the lighting is fantastic as well. The puzzles, while nothing that'll make you think too hard, are also well-made. And of course, the combat is super fun too. Nothing beats the feeling of tearing off alien limbs with crazy-ass guns like the Ripper and the Line Gun. And the enemy encounters are still tense too, especially when a whole bunch of them show up at once. The story is good too, although I found it to be kinda weird, but hey that just makes this game stand out even more.

Really good game, but the remake just points out the flaws. A few things feel dated especially with some levels and character choices, but the gameplay is still amazing. It took what RE4 did and created something unique, and created a unique environment. The influences of Event Horizon and Alien are obvious, and it kickstarted a well-beloved franchise. But honestly, there is no reason to play this game. Just play the remake unless you REALLY need more Dead Space and you want to see the slight changes.

Ironically, when I first played this game, I couldn't get into it for some reason. I must've been in the wrong mindset because when I eventually played the remake, I found it to be fantastic. Which is strange, because when I first played the original version, I didn't necessarily think it needed a new coat of paint. Ah well, at least I came around eventually.
