Definitely my favorite game - wonderful story, art style, and gameplay. My only complaint is the difficulty progression--it seems to get too difficult too quickly at the end. But it's still playable and it should be played by everyone looking for an amazing game!

My partner got me to play this game recently and I adored it. It’s so creative and interesting!! I love the unique thought provoking character arcs. Trying to complete this 100% drove me round the bend, I didn’t manage it.

This was a very interesting game. In the beginning, I wasn't really that interested in the game, because I didn't like the animation or level design that much. But something made me continue, and in hindsight I think that something must have been the charm of the game. Psychonauts has some pretty mature themes handled in a very dark comedic way. I realized this after finding a secret surrounding one of the characters in their level, which changed everything about how I viewed that character from that point. This game reminds me a lot of self-aware cartoon movies such as Terkel i knibe [Terkel in Trouble], and the twist in the end that was completely uncalled for really cemented that similarity in my opinion. I didn't care much in the beginning, but I was hooked towards the end, because the level design finally stepped up, delivering some very good final stages. The music was pretty solid too, though it actually bugged out from time to time unfortunately. I thought the game handled mental illness as a topic very well too, presenting a world where mental problems can be fixed by someone jumping into your brain and fixing your bad thoughts. It is a very interesting premise, and raises further discussion about the morality of scrambling other people's brains, which feels like something the next game can elaborate further on. But for now, this game is good enough as it is for a discussion about mental illness.

After being completely burned out from gaming for almost an entire year this so fresh and fun and I love this game so much the story Is pretty entertaining, the gameplay still holds up today the writing is clever and I honestly think this is better than most games that come out today my only problem is the graphics are pretty bad since this game came out almost 18 years ago but I can forgive that because the rest is just so good

I think it would be hard for me to properly describe something like Psychonauts. As a platformer, its alright imo. I think the artstyle is definitely bizarre and not exactly to my taste, but I still respect the direction they took and commit to. I think that the coolest thing about this game is the fact that as someone who is lowkey interested in psychology, I was fascinated in how they would try to create worlds out of mental health condiitons. Some levels are really deep and understandable to me, but others were hard for me to understand the metaphor behind. It's certainly showing its age and the visuals ain't for everyone but I def think theres enough interesting stuff in here to warrant recommending it.

Kinda clunky at points, but fun 3d platformer with interesting premise and fun cast of characters.

The game was awesome, the comedy was on point for nearly the entire game and all the characters were so charming (despite their creepy appearances), while some of the gameplay mechanics where partially flawed they were still enjoyable when they worked and where able to enforce some wonderful puzzle solving segments, can't wait to play the sequel as I have high hopes for the improved mechanics and the return of the world and it's humour.

someday i'll finish this game

Its surreal how good this game is.

Psychonauts, like many other video games, is a video game but not just any video game, one of the most creative video games I've ever played.

You're this fucking child going into mentally insane people's minds and fixing their issues while trying to save the world from a crazed psychonaut military "war veteran" who all he cares about is a RABBIT. This game is pure genius and creative throughout and it quickly became one of my favorites, all the characters and settings are all memorable in their own way (FUCKING MILKMAAAAAAAN!!!!!) and as you progress throughout the game with more powers you start learning unique ways to beat an enemy or traverse the minds of these characters.

Fucking genius man.

Among the most creative games I've ever played, one where every level feels like a separate game with its own set of rules and style.

Replayed in 2021 to prepare for Psychonauts 2. Better than I remembered! Went for 100% completion this time. Bumping up half a star.

Very charming and fun game with tons of unique mechanics and level design. Although it has not aged the best at all it's 100% worth playing and I consider it a classic.

Once upon a time, Tim Schafer made good games, this is one of them.

I knew there was something special about this game the moment I opened it up. The art design, the music, and the concept alone makes this one of the best platformers I've yet played. I love the bizarre character designs as they're all immediately recognizable and fits the game's atmosphere. This is a weird, funny, but also dark game and I think that's why it's resonated so much with people. My main issues with this game mostly comes from how its paced I guess? I thought the campers would be a lot more involved in the gameplay and they have a ton of interesting and fun dialogue but it's only for a very brief moment until you get to the asylum part. I guess there's nothing wrong with that, but I really wanted to see more of them like Dogen, Mikhail, Clem, and Crystal. Though, a lot of the other campers are pretty uninteresting like I think there are 3 or 4 different love interest couples that are all completely interchangeable, mostly for the campers with the more normal and boring designs. But I think the part that was the most strange to me was the whole brain collecting mechanic. On paper, it sounds pretty interesting because you find brains and level up your health. The problem is that 75% of all the brains are after the penultimate world meaning you're only going to experience the benefits of them for the last world. Furthermore, I thought some of the earlier worlds were pretty underwhelming especially when compared to the levels later on in the asylum. Though, I really disliked The Milkman Conspiracy. The other three at the asylum were all great, however. Milla's Dance Party does have that amazing nightmare part that perfectly encapsulates how this game balances the charming quirkiness and emotional beats amazingly well. It is an overall more mixed bag of worlds than I would've liked personally but they were great enough to keep me invested. The gameplay aged pretty well surprisingly too and nothing felt that clunky for me. There was this one bug that made it so I couldn't get level 100 to see the bonus movie. Like, it's really not a big deal but still kind of annoying being stuck at level 99 and having 100 percented literally everything (I checked.) The collect-a-thon aspects were fine though you certainly need a guide to find all the damn figments but that's not a HUGE deal honestly. I think the main issue holding this game back is its weird gameplay pacing like with the aforementioned brains mechanic and all. But, overall, this is an incredible video game with one of my favorite art styles in video games. Can't wait to play the sequel!

making 10 year olds say ass out of nowhere is the funniest thing

very memorable game with some sick-ass level & character design. the controls can be difficult, and combat is a little clunky, but once you get into the swing of it (insert trapeze joke) it's fun to play.

the last level makes me want to eat my controller <3

still trapped in the meat circus :( wish me luck

Completed through the Xbox Series X update.

I tried this on the PS4 back in 2018 but dropped it. I'm glad I gave it a second chance on the Series X; such a unique and quirky platformer that, once you get your land legs with the puzzles, ends up being a lot of fun.

Amazing story and cast of characters, wonderfully unique soundtrack, fun platforming levels, and a lot more. This has been my favorite game since I played it on the ps2 and it will continue to be a relic and a timeless classic.

This is what happens when a videogame gets made by people who really just wanted to make a TV show.
