The same good game with some pretty good motion-based aiming. It does make the game a little easier, though.

This was my first Resident Evil game, and I think I went with the right one, although the movement is confusing and kinda clunky you'll get used to it, and at least the game is balanced around the clunky controls.

My only big complain is that I think this game is longer than it needed to be, it's one of those that I said "alright I've seen what I had to see let's wrap it up". If you've never played an RE game this is a solid entry.

This is my favorite version of the game, although I'm only half way through this version of the game I can already tell this is my preferred way of playing it, the wiimote makes the aiming fluid and natural, get this version if you don't have a hate boner for motion controls.

Resident Evil 4 is considered one of the most innovative, influential and popular survival horror games on the market. The fact they skipped Code Veronica and made a remake of RE4 especially after getting a spiritual successor to 4 that being RE8 Village speaks volumes on how popular this game is. If you like horror games or resident evil there's a good chance you've played this game before but if not, then you are probably wondering what all the hype is about. I’ll be honest I wasn't going to review this game because so many people have, and I feel my opinion would be biased considering this was my first M rated game and first horror game I played when I was 11 years old on the ps2 and game cube, sometime after I got it on the Wii. So, I'm going to do my best to ripe away that nostalgia lens and be honest about this game.

Gameplay: RE4 has been ported to basically every console following its original release on game cube, and I've played pretty much every version of this game that exists except the Nintendo switch version so as you can imagine it has gone through a lot of changes since the Game Cube release. The original game did not include Separate ways and some of the costumes and weapons this version has. So, if you've never played before this is one of the better versions to play it on. This game drastically changed up the gameplay from the previous games. It added the 3rd person camera angle, a customizable inventory, The enemies are now Parasite controlled people and no longer mindless zombies. So, if you've only played the originals or started with RE5 and skipped this one, think more like re5 but more clunky and slower paced. This game still has a lot of puzzles like the previous games but this game includes a money system and has findable treasures you sell to a merchant. So overall a lot of changes but if you are used to the newer games its very similar to RE5 and RE Village. This game is basically those game’s dad. This game also has a bunch of separate game modes aside from the base game. It comes with Assignment Ada which was in the original along with the very popular Mercenaries mode, but this game also includes Separate Ways which was a fun additional game mode to explain Ada's side of the story.

Graphics, Music/ Voice Acting: The graphics honestly still hold up pretty well. Compared to the likes of the Remake they aren't amazing, but they were good enough that I along with many others were surprised this game ever even got a remake, this version still stands well on its own feet. The music in this game is probably some of my favorite in the series. It fits the vibes very well and feels very unsettling at times. The save room music is actually a snip from the Devil May Cry 1 Main theme which is pretty cool (Probably because DMC 1 was originally a version of RE4). The voice acting in this game isn't bad, but the dialogue still holds strong to the cheesy one liners. It's a fun break of comedy in this horror game and I only hope it’s somewhat still present in the RE4 Remake.

Story/ no major spoilers: Much like the other drastic changes to gameplay the story is very different in this game as well. Starting a new chapter or phase in this series. RE4s story abandons the Umbrella storyline and starts a new one 6 years later. Leon Kennedy from RE2 is now a government agent and is looking for the president’s missing daughter in a very rural part of Spain. She was taken by a religious cult group that uses Parasites to infect the minds of its followers and control them. Ada does play a Role in this game and there is a small Wesker Cameo. Overall, the story is a bit predictable but it’s definitely scary. Like all the previous games each act is split into 3 areas: Village, Castle, Island. The Island section is probably the weakest part of the game and most unliked as it falls heavy into the action and less horror aspect of survival horror. There are a few very scary enemies and areas, I personally found the Chainsaw Ganado's and the Regenerators some of the scariest. This game also doesn't hold back on the gore, there is a lot of dismemberment, also this game has a boat load of content and is one of the longest games in the series coming in at 15-16 hours long and thats not counting side content. So, is this game Scary? I’d definitely say so, is it fun to play? once you get used to the controls yes. Is it a perfect amazing horror game? No, it has a lot of flaws but for the innovation it gave at the time I see why it has been hailed at such a height. I still have to say it is a great game and experience and I can’t recommend this game enough. A lot of people I know who played this game couldn't believe this was getting a remake because re4,5 and 6 all feel like they still hold up and don't need one. So, to answer the question is it the best in the series? Well probably in the top 5 for most people.

Overall: 9/10

La mejor forma de jugar el RE4 original.

This game dares to ask the question "what if a survival-horror game allowed you to do a bunch of raw as hell shit"

Best way to play Resident Evil 4

idk why i played this on wii but it was good

Introduction
At this point, everyone should know what to expect when RE4 gets a new port. Higher resolutions, achievement support, and HD textures is basically the staple of every RE4 port nowadays. However, Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition is one of the few unique RE4 ports that do something different.

Gameplay
For Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition (which I will now abbreviate as RE4:WE) the focus was on the motion controls of the Wiimote and sensor bar. To reload now, you have to shake your Wiimote up and down quickly. To knife, you have to do a fast swiping motion with your Wiimote. The QTEs also got changed to be more motion control focused, an example being that you now have to swipe your Wiimote to the direction that the QTE shows you. Overall, it's a cool premise, but it can easily get tiring after any gameplay session.

Issues
First issue is what I stated earlier, the swiping during QTEs. It can get tiring easily and isn't a fun mechanic in my opinion. Second issue is that for some odd reason, certain PS2 models made it into this version of the game. Items such as herbs are using their lower poly PS2 model instead of their GC model, which unfortunately makes some items ugly. The only other issue I really had with this game was having to quickly shake your Wiimote up and down to reload, as just like with the QTEs, it also got tiring quickly.

Ending
Overall, RE4:WE is a unique way to experience RE4 if you either haven't played the game or haven't played this version. All of the PS2 content is also included in this game, making it a complete package and worth the money.

Resident Evil 4 fucking rules!

This was my first true experience with a Resi game, and I can safely say that it pretty much showed me why this game remains so revered to this day. It’s simply just…fun!

RE4 seemingly took the mechanics and foundation of the original games on PS1 and just…stopped taking itself as seriously in exchange for a much more hectic, action packed games with grotesque creatures and hordes of zombie like enemies.

This all helps to compliment the stellar gameplay. The game of course takes the limited resource management of the older titles, but with a focus on action you’ll be running all over the place trying to fight off enemies and find keys, even using Leon’s patented kicks to knock the opposition aside.

And Leon himself is absolutely delightful. I only saw glimpses of him in this game beforehand, with most of my knowledge of him being from RE2 content online. But here he’s the highlight of this game’s insane plot and really earns his special agent status he has at the start. I may be in love, but that’s beside the point.

Also, if you hadn’t noticed, my first playthrough was on Wii! This is often regarded as the best way to experience this game, and I have to agree. It compliments the gameplay swimmingly and it was super easy to break boxes with a simple swing. I may try it out on other consoles or PC at some point, but I doubt it’ll be quite as good as this.

If I had any complaints, it’d be that some sections, specifically the last portion of the Castle, were not as fun and felt kinda tacked on. Like, the game really could’ve just ended the segment there and it’d be plenty long enough, but it just padded it out in ways that, in my opinion, just felt lacking compared to most other parts of the game.

But, overall, this is still a 9.5/10 for me! Really not even a huge deal in the grand scheme of things, and I know I’ll be back to play it again at some point.

Resident Evil 4 is pretty good, however towards the later half of the game I was very univested. I didn't enjoy the extremely linier style it takes on during the final act and for the most part the setting compaired to earlier parts of the game wasn't very engaging.

I enjoyed the Wii pointer controls but I did have some issue with aiming the camera itself, and sometimes the over-the-shoulder view got in the way.

I still think if they should remake Code Veronica over this game.

Great game, really fun gameplay + interesting story. Got me into the resident evil franchise

Everything I said over the regular review applies here, except RE4 feels like it was tailor-made with the Wii in mind. GOD, this controls so goddamn well.

Motion controls ....... I just want them back

Resident Evil 4 on the wii provides an extra layer of catharsis to the already rock solid RE4 experience.

While not a total reimagining of the game, the motion controls do enough to change the experience. Motion controlled aiming allows for quicker reflexes while in combat, but also more tense and stressful situations when you're overwhelmed. Leon's built-in sway when aiming is still present, but somewhat less noticeable as it blends in with your own sway from holding the wiimote.
Unlike other versions of the game, you will always have a reticle on screen, meaning you can preemptively aim at a foe before holding down the B button to enter the shooting stance. While this can make the game somewhat easier than playing on controller, it feels natural and the transition is smooth.
Swiping the wiimote while not in the shooting stance will make Leon automatically target and slash at the closest thing to him with his knife, whether that's the boxes scattered throughout the game, or an enemy right by him. Another convenience feature that, to an extent, makes the game easier, as Leon targets the objects and enemies faster than the player would by holding the knife button and aiming at what they want to attack.

The Wii Edition of RE4 sacrifices minor challenge by providing unique motion control features not present in other versions. And while this may be disappointing to more hardcore fans of the game, it's a welcome change of pace from the traditional controller gameplay.

Played through this last year, and it was not only my first time playing Resident Evil 4, it was my first time playing through any Resident Evil game. I don't normally do action games, and I definitely don't do horror games, so I was super outside of my comfort zone here, so beating this game was probably my biggest gaming accomplishment. It's one of my favorite games, now, and one of my favorite playthroughs I've done for my twitch channel. A campy, fun, perfect game, and I honestly think playing it on Wii is what allowed me to enjoy it as much as I did. Perfect game.

Motion controls make an already fun game more fun

Replayed it on professional and got my ass beat the whole way through

The best version of RE4 OG. Granted, that's a low bar

It's the ultimate version of my favorite Resident Evil game.

One of the best games of all time. The perfect blend of action and horror with amazing combat and gameplay and so much content and replayability. The music is great, the story is amazing for the style it went for, and the world just fits so well. There is such iconic scenes, enemies, and character that all ooze personality and charm. This is my favorite game of all time, and I've played it multiple times on PS2, Gamecube, Wii, PC, the OLD PC version, XSX, and probably more versions that I'm forgetting. I love this game, and I think even with the remake people should still play the original. ESPECIALLY this version. This version with the amazing aiming is wonderful, and I think that if you aren't going to play the PC version, play this one. It is the best motion controlled shooter out there.

Leon is a twink.

The remake better have these immaculate voicelines

Anyone who has said that motion controls are bad haven’t played this game

This version of the game makes it hard to go back to the other versions of RE4. The Wii Edition improves on the aiming by ten folds. Turning an already amazing game to perfection.

Phenomenal game, just the remake is better.
