When people say this feels like a 2D Tekken, they aren't lying. AoF 3 takes a really interesting turn with how the game plays, focusing on 3D fighter-styled strings and feel which compliments the rotoscoped sprites quite well. Definantly worth a try just to experience how it plays.

Although better than AoF 2, it seems like a pointless game that presents little interesting things to justify its existence

This is my third favorite SNK fighting game (the others being Garou: Mark of the Wolves and Samurai Shodown V: Special).
It uses rotoscoped animation like Street Fighter 3 did for Elena, only here it’s every character.
This game is hard. Maybe a tad too hard lol
I’m not sure this is really Art of Fighting 3. I get the feeling it was originally a side game, as Robert is the protagonist in this game, not Ryo. So, I did some quick digging and yes, this is a side story in Japan. It’s Japanese Subtitle is Ryûko no Ken Gaiden, Gaiden translates as side story.
Anyways, that’s getting off track. Like almost all NeoGeo fighting games, it uses a 4 button layout.
3 attack buttons, and I think some form of counter button (I haven’t played in a long time 😊).
It’s a fairly standard fighting game of its period.
But the graphics are nice, the OST has some great tracks and it’s flashy. Three ingredients to make me happy as a fighting game guy

When I first started playing this, I was not having fun at all. Turns out it's because I played Sinclair, who is the worst character in the game by a mile and is almost unplayable. So then I played Kasumi and was starting to have fun, but I still wasn't really vibing with the game. That is, until I realized that it's basically trying to be 2D Tekken, and then it clicked.

The biggest frustration, as always with these old SNK games, was the AI. This one was particularly insane from my experience; Wyler was intentionally trying to time me out, and it worked because of how the computer constantly reads your inputs.

I definitely recommend this one as a different take on the 2D fighting genre. It also has a unique vibe, even if it might look similar to Fatal Fury at first glance.

wahey the SNK boss syndrome wasn't that bad with this one. no yuri tho (boooooo). Gameplay-wise this is much more refined since this game came out a long time after the first 2. Also has GOREGOUS neo geo backgrounds. Definitely the best in the series.

I'm just going to have to acknowledge that Art of Fighting is not a good series, and largely I think that has to do with how stagnant it's combat is. While the first two games have a lot working against them when it comes to liking the appeal of this game, Art of Fighting 3 really just comes down to the fact the fighting system just isn't a good one.

When I mean Art of Fighting 3 comes down to it's combat, I really do mean that everything else in the game kinda works for it. The character design feels more alive, the stages look beautiful to look at while not being completely distracting, the soundtrack has some really good bangers, and just everything feels like it's moving. Well save for the combat.

Like I never really faced a fighting game quite like this before. I honestly can't picture myself landing any combos or learning anything about a character because of how aggressive the AI can be even on a lower setting, but also due to the fact that it just feels stiff. I honestly feel like I'm always fighting against the controls whenever I do something, and if I were to able to land more than two hits, it largely came from spamming and not linking attacks together.Every button press just feels like a commitment, and while that was the standard for the time, newer games have spoiled me with an open marriage to press whatever buttons I like till I can move on to the next one.

The game is at least charming at every other area though, and frankly I'm happy a lot of these characters live on through King of Fighters and Fatal Fury. It just saddens me that previous games were too hard and lackluster that they just didn't appeal to me, and while a game finally has, the bad taste in my mouth has only grown milder and my memory colder at the thought of playing another Art of Fighting game. Frankly I just don't see a reason to play any of these games.

I thought this fighter was overly animated trash til I started getting into it. Its from an already strange FG series mechanically and then it gets stranger even from its predecessors.
Can't say I blame people for thinking this. Still feels a bit slow but not as sluggish other than how quick getups work.

Shit has wake-up sweeps, juggles & juggle moves, characters have different weights, wall carry, pre-canned strings a Crush system in 96!
Not the most graceful execution (or good on paper) in my opinion but not outright kusoge for what it tries to do.

this game has the flair I expect from a SNK game. very enjoyable experience from a casual standpoint.

What an incredible difference it makes when you can control your characters easily in a fighting game. Now I can talk about something else in this review, like how hot Ryo and Robert are. I want them both to show me the power and supremacy of their kyokugenryu karate, but sexually. I want them to desperation-move demolish my whole entire back walls. I want to break up the wedding between Ryo's sister and Robert, I want people walking in on us in our luxury suite in the Italian riviera just mercilessly three way fucking, I want my name entered into the Sakazaki annals as the one who brought the stain and shame of rampant homosexual decadence to the entire family name. In other words, I think the protagonists of the Art of Fighting franchise are rather attractive, three and a half stars on www.backloggd.com.

There's a cheat where you can play as any character on their birthday and they get the ability to cheat.

MASTERFUL DESIGN, SIR

7/10

Play it with lag on fightcade 2.
Best kusoge ever done.

Some of the best sprites of any 90s game ever made, wasted on a janky Art of Fighting game that poorly incorporates 3D-style fighting. Kasumi is great though.
