Now this? This is disappointment I and EVERYONE can see. This was one of my personal biggest disappointments in gaming.
If you looked at the testings for the actual destructibility this game would’ve been capable of. This would’ve been all time great in destruction amongst other things considering the Crackdown established presence. It would be better than Red Faction Guerrilla and Just Cause 3 in destruction. But nope, that never came to fruition. That test which was promised for the whole city, due to whatever issues in the studio, was regressed to just the online in a shitty minuscule city, and it’s fucking boring.
So basically the main game is just like the other 2, which hey wouldn’t be bad… if it had ANY of the physics of the others but it doesn’t. The movement, combat and ragdoll is dogshit. And lacks any impact. It’s a downgraded Crackdown 1 and 2, without the unique flavor the world had to offer. That’s stripped too.
This game is just horrible, it’s not a 1/10 simply because it’s at least playable and not painful or anything. But just just a waste of space. And a massive disappointment.

Crackdown 3 is like shoveling potato chips in your mouth. It's mindless and repetitive, but there's still something satisfying about it even if it's nothing special.
A couple hours into the game, I found myself wondering how much different Crackdown 3 was from the original that I played as a kid. Everything felt very similar: same auto-aim combat, same objectives, same progression, same platforming elements, same addictive Agility Orb collectathon. Out of curiosity, I downloaded the original Crackdown (it's free on Xbox) and quickly realized that Crackdown 3 has made a lot of refinements and improvements. Early skill progression is faster, platforming is less frustrating, weapons and vehicles don't need to be brought to supply points to save them, and the controls generally feel better. There is also more variety to the weapons and boss battles. With all of that in mind, I'd say this is the best Crackdown game. Whether you're new to the series or coming back for nostalgia, this is the one you should play.
However, this game has plenty of flaws, many of which were inherited from its predecessors:
- The gameplay loop is very repetitive, exacerbated by how simple combat is due to how aiming works.
- Some weapons are so damn effective, particularly explosives like the Anubis, that there's little incentive to experiment with other guns.
- Driving is a low point and it's the least enjoyable way to traverse the city, especially once you find the wingsuit.
- The game shows you everything it has to offer pretty early on and you're powerful enough to beat the final boss well before you've completed most of the game's objectives. If you're the kind of person that wants to check off every box, the game feels like it overstays its welcome.
I still had fun playing Crackdown 3 over the course of a week. It's not a bad game per say. It's entertaining, but not delightful. I wish I could give it a 3.5, but it's truly an average 3.0. Give it a shot on Game Pass if you have a weekend to kill.
(Oh, and while I know nobody is playing Crackdown for the story, it's very strange how this game seems to walk back the original game's twist in favor of some goofy copaganda.)

It ain't bad at all! The core gameplay is pretty fun, blowing up one objective after another is super smooth and engaging once it finds its groove... the shame is that it doesn't really build up to much (much like the original Crackdown in that regard) and the difficulty is super wack (sometimes even on Legendary is too easy, but sometimes it cranks the difficulty up way too much) but I guess that's what happens when the developer that was supposed to make the game houdini'd mid development and instead you get a (talented) B-Tier studio to build something out of scraps and polish things up in record time just to release something.
Also, despite being a much more smoother experience (most of the time), it kinda misses the point of what made the original Crackdown special and instead becomes a Just Cause / Red Faction Guerrilla type game. A very decent one, and it does nail a lot when it comes to the core gameplay and expanding some design aspects, but because it's in service of a much more standard sandbox, I don't think it would've have had that much staying power in people's minds even if the game had been received more positively, unlike the original which is still very bold, unique and fondly remembered.
