Played all tracks in Power Edition- today being the first time I actually got to complete Advanced Reverse and Expert Reverse...the only two tracks that were missing for me to complete after beating the rest of the tracks normally in 2021 or so.

The coolest thing is to have achieved those runs with the Hornet of all things- which forces you to gearshift/play Daytona USA 1 style. So yeah, I can mark this one as completed...technically.

I think the only thing left now would be racing ALL TRACKS in Mirror mode...but I wouldn't bet on that unless I happened to feel like it again and get a good streak to beat all seven races again but in mirror mode.

There seems to be a lot of hardcore fans of this one and I can see why: with the high energy cars, the awesome music, and the visually interesting courses (especially the amusement park) there's definitely a lot to love!

TIME EXTENSION!

Please teach me how to play this insane game I can finish the races but I can't place above 9th I know there's skill to this and would love to git gud.

Thank you Sega for finally porting this game to PC and consoles after 25 years. Please just give us the option to launch this without going through this shitty ass Japanese GTA game before playing.

I RACE TO FEEL THIS FORBIDDEN ECSTASY

Yakuza games are better at game preservation than most video game companies

Improvement upon the original upon almost every aspect, I'm not a fan of the soundtrack myself but that's just my personal taste and I'm more partial to Mitsuyoshi. Tracks look great and three different vehicles exist to suit different skill levels.

There is an update of this game, Daytona USA 2: Power Edition, that is not on IGDB at this time, I honestly prefer the original. Power Edition introduces a medley course and the Hornet but the beginner course got a cosmetic downgrade, now it's just a generic speedway instead of a fancy biodome. But I'd rather have PE over nothing.

possibly one of the best arcade racers

also Goddamn this music is fire:

while i prefer the first game, the ost and the gameplay is still good with this one, i felt that controls and tracks were a bit more arcadey compared to the first game while there's nothing wrong with that, i highly prefer the first game's stages

an insanely humbling racing experience.
The high risk high reward system is so exhilarating once you start winning

The way the 3-course race has the tracks blend together feels like proto-OutRun 2, says man who compares every game to OutRun 2

The original release of this game, Battle On The Edge, had one of the coolest first stages ever. It was a biodome with a really high glass dome with a jungle section with waterfalls and stuff behind it. It was beautiful, like one of those fantasy tracks from SCUD Race. They completely removed it from the updated Power Edition from the game, I guess to make it look more like Daytona 1. It is a huge downgrade. And that's the version that made it into Yakuza! No one's getting to see the Biodome!

Bring back the Biodome you cowards.

You know, I joke a lot to myself about the "guy that buys the yakuza games solely for the arcade games", but here I am, I am the guy now. And how could I not be? For the first time in the 25(!!!) years since this game first hit arcades, we finally have a playable version of this game on a home console, with no need for obtuse command-prompt emulator frontends getting in our way.

This game basically takes everything that the first Daytona did and continues to do it just as well. 3 courses to drive through with the first basically being a training stage for learning how to drift properly and the other 2 being more interesting race tracks. Drifting in this game is the same as the first; you can do so through either gear shifting or braking and regardless of which option there is quite a high skill ceiling. The visuals are incredible, really leaning into the theme-park attraction style vibes and thrills that come from these kinds of arcade racers, with setpieces that include cities, ice glaciers, haunted houses, canyons, an alien space ship, wide open fields, and a giant rocking pirate ship serving as eye candy to zoom through.

With attractive visuals to lure me in with the deep mechanics to keep me playing, this is yet another example of a banger arcade racing game. The version featured in the latest Yakuza game is a rebranded version of the "power edition" of this game, which adds some new content like a marathon endurance course combining all 3 tracks together and brings the original daytona car as an option. They also changed the beginner courses scenery from a lush biodome to a generic nascar track and scrubbed out the daytona branding due to licensing, which is lame but it is what it is. A hornet by any other name drives just as fast.

if sega adds scud race to a yakuza game i will personally fly to sega HQ and kiss the entire ryu ga gotuku studio staff

The most underrated and the best racing game that you've never played. One of my favorite arcade experiences ever, and the power drifting mechanic will never not feel powerful. Also, the maps and soundtrack make for an unforgettable ride!

Streets filled with lights Like a stargate from an old scifi movie my mind filled with delights voyager for the treasure of pleasure I don't give a glance into the rear view mirror I know you're all behind me grace and elegance, that's what you need not only for the race, but for your way of life!!!!

This is the best racing game I have ever played.
