If you like the first Dead Island then you will enjoy Riptide, if not you will feel unhappy playing practically the same game again with few differences that differ from the original game.

Games I Like That Everybody Else Dislikes
So rigorously, fundamentally garbage that it actually spins back into brilliance. I've always found something tantalizingly awful about this series, they're so fucking stupid and hilariously bad that it's a blast every time - I really don't think these get the meme treatment they deserve a la something like Knack does. Literally just an even lazier reskin of the original with bugged trophies, a wide array of laughable visual errors, and another disgusting showcase of the seventh generation's Play-Doh facial animations. Evokes such peaks of human emotion as you go from wanting to die to heights of side-splitting hilarity at its total incompetence that you reach some form of enlightenment. Have such fond memories with this one, objectively a huge disaster - imagine wanting your name attached to this in any way lmfao. "So bad it's good" has never been such a shrewd motherfucker, even better with friends.

Torturous, especially the water segments which made me lose my sanity.
One of the worst moments I've had and there were a ton of them: I drove to a location with my boat, seeing the autosave I leave the game thinking I'll just continue the next day.
Nope.
It respawns me to the location where I first got the boat, which is fine, although the boat is at the location where I left it the day before.
So, I swim through the zombies and just the unbearable pain of fighting them in the water to finally reach the location, go into some loading zone, finish a quest, go back, and...
THE BOAT DECIDED TO RANDOMLY RESPAWN TO THE BEGINNING SECTION WHERE IT WAS THE VERY FIRST TIME.
If I wasn't a masochistic perfectionist with an abnormally stupid rule to beat every single game, at least the story element, I would've dropped this game 7 times at the minimum.

Going into this standalone expansion to the base game of Dead Island, I was expecting more of the same... and that's pretty much what I got. However, it did feel marginally better in some ways, with the pacing in particular feeling much snappier and (thankfully) ending much sooner than last time. I particularly enjoyed the simple addition of having the characters speak out of cutscenes rather than just give repeated quips for every scenario. Really helped to sell their personalities a lot more than the base Dead Island.
All in all, still a pretty decent time with some interesting gameplay scenarios and narrative moments.
6/10
