Not a fan of locations where you constantly need to drop down from platforms, half the time I either never let go or end up jumping back onto the platform despite letting go of the jump button. Happened too frequently for me to rate this game any higher.

Divertido aunque algo corto y simplon!. Hay mejores en la coleccion disney capcom.

I enjoy playing old Capcom platformers. On the one hand, this game has perfect graphics, music, very beautiful sprites of all objects, but on the other hand...

Either the developers were in a hurry to release this game, or they didn’t test it at all. There are a huge number of errors in the game design, the enemies just have a ton of HP and a fairly short period of dealing damage to them, and instead of moving forward through small levels, of which there are only 7, it was decided to make such a stupid decision to increase the completion time. There are very successful bosses, and there is the last one, which, without one single correct decision at the beginning of the battle, kills you and you cannot do anything about it.

Pretty solid NES game! Definitely borrows some elements from Mega Man (I mean this was Capcom developed) but its a lot easier (still a bit challenging in it's own right). I think I prefer DuckTales a bit more, but Darkwing Duck NES is a fun little time.

Pretty good! I've always wanted to beat this one. Kinda on the easier side, but still satisfying, I feel. Mainly via the controls. Just really nice feeling game to jump and shoot in.
Very mega man-like in its level design and pacing.
The goofy sprites were a highlight for me.
Loved seeing the shows art style translated to an NES game.

darkwing duck seviyorsanız eğlenceli, sevmiyorsanız da gideri var.

Oops, it's a Mega Man game in disguise! And not a bad one at that. Capcom was at the top of their game when it came to licensed Disney stuff. Although you've got a shield instead of a slide, which brings the flow of movement closer to something like Mega Man 2 instead of 3.

The gameplay is very well put together. The hanging mechanic makes some platforming easier, at the expense of making other sequences a lot tougher, but it overall evens out. I enjoyed the soundtrack, as well as the variety of stages present. Bonus points for the ending getting an intentional laugh out of me, which you pretty much never see in an NES game.

There isn't much about it that's remarkable, but I had fun once, I had fun twice, and I'd come back to play it a third time. Mega Man fans should give this a peep.

looks cool but it's hard and bullshitty as hell. some enemies feel really overpowered from the start

Not too fond of this one unfortunately, it mostly just plays as a weaker Mega Man game without the cool dynamic of being able to use various weapons to circumvent a lot of nasty challenges thrown at you. The fact that you can only ever have one subweapon at a time is pretty annoying in this regard because you just know that there are other tools that could potentially be usable but you're sacrificing whatever power you have currently to get it, not knowing if the weapon you'll pick up will actually benefit you more in the upcoming sections or not. That said, it's not like it ends up changing things a whole bunch anyway because the assortment of weapons are all pretty lame, mostly just covering a lot of basic archetypes without anything that stands out as especially creative or engaging to actually use to any degree.

The level design in general also really doesn't do it for me, as while the ledge grabbing definitely adds a degree of verticality to the level design that can lead to some great moments such as when you need to climb up a huge building and jump across rooftops, it's not really enough to fully carry the experience. There are so many moments that feel designed to either be incredibly inconvenient, or to just be "gotcha" moments where you just get hit unless you know exactly what's coming, the worst case of which being the mole enemies that pop up from the ground way too late to allow the player to safely move at an even slightly consistent, enjoyable pace. I will say though, despite not really enjoying a lot of this, the first couple of levels before the difficulty ramps up are pretty neat, and the music is consistently amazing, it just ends up falling apart the further you get and I just feel like I'd play literally any Mega Man game over this, and I don't even like a few of those games.

it plays like mega man!!!.... oh god it plays like mega man..
which means its hard as triceratops testicles and i probably wont be revisiting or beating it unfortunately

Another disney capcom game and they did it again. Literally built on Mega Man 5, this game is more of the same good sidescrolling shooting action. The music is good, levels are good and basically everything is good. The length is pretty short and the game might be too easy. It is still an Nes game that shouldnt be missed.

Spammed the shit out of rewind with this one. Good music, artwork and general presentation for the most part (I liked the woods the most), just a lot of "haha gotcha lol!" throughout that wasn't particularly endearing or engaging. The platforming ranges from mediocre to terrible though, having to hold down + jump to fall through, then press only down again to fully drop through platforms is pretty bad; no idea why they did it this way other than the fear that players might forget to press up and grab onto ledges, but instead this only encumbers the player especially in the boss fights.

it really is just a Mega Man game! one of the better Mega Man games on the NES, to boot! I'm sad I didn't give this one a play earlier... but now I have.

Ok, so Darkwing Duck is pure nostalgia for me. Yeah, it's a bit janky sometimes, but swinging around the city, the awesome music, those boss fights? It brings back all those after-school cartoon memories, even if I get my butt kicked half the time.

I remember finding an old Famicom in my grandma's house when I was a teen, and a cartridge with the cover of Megaman 5 in it. It seems to have been used by my aunt Silvina, since she was a teen around 1992, and my father and my other aunt Gaby (Rest in Piece) are both older than her by eight years and ten respectively.

Here in Argentina it was very difficult to find a US/PAL NES and as such we received the pirate Famicom console in the 80s and 90s, without the controller with the microphone, and me, being a Megaman fan, inserted the cartridge to play the game after a lot of fidgeting around (dusty pin connections, etc)... And it turned out to be another game where the main character had its graphics replaced by Megaman. That's what happens with chinese bootlegs 🤷‍♂️

I completed that game now and it's just a middle of the road NES platformer, nothing more. I never even watched the TV show it was based on, but I can imagine my aunt going back from school and catching it on Canal Trece or Disney Channel when she was younger (as she seems to have been an avid fan of cartoons because my grandmother told me she watched Animaniacs from WB too) and it tingles a bit of a nostalgic vibe in me.

Clearly, I chose many of the NES games I played based on the TV shows I was watching at the time. Not the best game on NES but it was fun to play as DW.

Awesome game, disney should make game like that nowadays

A great game that's only held back by how hard it can be, but an experienced Mega Man player can make it through most of the game no harm no F.O.W.L., even if some bosses like Molinator or Steelbeak can be bullshit. The only other difficulty complaints I have are the enemies are too reliant on armor or only being vulnerable on the head and Darkwing himself only having 4 HP which is comically less than the Blue Bomber.

That said, I love what's on display here and Capcom gave full respect to this series that aired while I was too in diapers to actually watch it. The gorgeous NES animations of Darkwing, how he has unique reactions based on what element hit him, and the music good lord the music, it's great. I also enjoy the mechanics that come with Darkwing being able to hang off various ledges, even if they could have done more with it. Unfortunately the game is a little short at only 7 stages, compared to the 12 a game of this type normally has, but that's the licensed game blues for you.

This is one of the weaker Mega Man games on the NES, but that's not such a bad title to hold.

I don't typically like complaining about difficulty in video games, but this was just brutally unfair lol. I mean, it's a kids game! Idk, I love Darkwing, and the game was fun when it wasn't too unfair, but yeah it's a good game hindered by it being NES hard. Anyway, happy anniversary Darkwing!!

This is unfortunately my least favorite of the Disney Afternoon Collection. As fun as it was to latch onto ceilings and try different weapons, the level design just felt like Mega Man but worse. It's one of those games where I'd hover my finger over the rewind button for most of it.

One of the greatest games of my childhood! I was a big fan of the animation series, and when one of my friends got this game for NES back in the day, it felt like magic. Whenever I visited him, I tried to finish it, but we never had enough time. Darkwing Duck is a great game, one of the best on NES; I'm happy to beat it and finally close this chapter of my life.

Another banger Capcom/Disney joint. The Mega Man comparisons are very overt, but I think it's better to go in without that reference; there's a lot of arbitrary design differences here that become insufferable to deal with if you play it with the same control philosophy as a MM title. Shit man, like, why the fuck do enemies have i-frames now? Why can't I move and fire at the same time? Why are so many enemies just worse, more annoying versions of Sniper Joe? Played on its own terms, these hardly impact the bulk of its environmental platforming driven design, but are a nuisance in the hands of damning muscle memory, and take away from all the other cool things this game can do. The sprite art's great - some of my favorite on NES for how full of character is. The ledge grab adds a great additional vector of movement to the level design, the bosses are all creative and challenging, and Capcom brings a jazzy PSG flair. An unbiased NES W all-around.

Basically Mega Man but wit a completely arbitrary limitation on weapons. Capcom knows how to design NES games about jumping and shooting, and Darkwing Duck matches some of the more middling Mega Mans on the NES like 3 and 6. You can only have one additional weapon equipped at a time, and there's only three of them, all of which are more situational than traditionally effective. Where Darkwing Duck shines is in it's use of hanging and dropping as platforming mechanics, and especially in it's boss fights where the combat and platforming are incorporated smoothly. These boss fights are great, though the stages themselves aren't anything particularly exciting. Regardless, this is a fun, short, moderately challenging romp. 4/6
