I remember watching Dazran303 play this game when I was younger! Now, 12 years later, with a [redacted] Wii in hand, I decided I wanted to try it out, finally. And man, is it a comforting game! It's basically like Wii Sports Resort but 100 times bigger. I think WSR has a lot more charm, but maybe that's just my nostalgia speaking. This game does have a lot of charm as well, so do try it when you get the chance! I can very much see myself getting sucked into Kawawii's comforting and beautiful atmosphere and spending my time searching for all the treasure chests, I know that for sure!
Basically open world Wii Sports, but the actual activities play more like simple minigames in the style of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. Overall it's okay (and I think if I played it when I was younger i would've liked it more), but it's clear they focused on quantity more than on quality. I would have preferred fewer but more polished activities.
The controls blow, the maps however are superb. I'm not a big remake advocate, but doing this with a big development team to make the world more interactable, have more detailed textures, and make some of the mini-games more complex, would be really dope.
Unlike GTA V this one made every area distinct and full of unique landmarks. I wiped my save and looked if I could find every hidden area in a single evening without hints and I did, because even after 10 years I still remember the layout.
Really makes you want to explore.
Doing stunts in the open-world should have an actual reward though.

I've just seen the credits on Go Vacation (Wii) by collecting all stamps/badges for playing the listed activities once and achieving the specified requirement. Not all activities are listed in this mode, so there are some surprises waiting for me.
My opinion is that this is a really great game, and I say that as somebody who tried it back in the day and didn't like it coming off the back of Wii Sports Resort. Here we are a decade or so later and I have fresh eyes. I found it very enjoyable.
Tons of content, too! I still have so much more to unlock by revisiting the activities and trying to find the hidden things dotted about the island.
For example: Road Racing is one activity and the first time you encounter it you play one circuit race and have to come first. When you revisit it you may be surprised to see there are a further ~25 events: circuit races (road cars, indy cars), checkpoint races (road cars, motorbikes) & slalom races (motorbikes). For the road cars you can pick between compact, sports and exotic cars that all handle differently. This sort of detail applies to each of ~50 activities.
Comparing it to Wii Sports Resort: what this lacks in depth it makes up for in terms of breadth. Don't sleep on it.
Also, fwiw, compared to the Switch version the Wii version features more graphical effects, albeit at a lower resolution of 480p.
