I love the concept of the game, and I'm glad it's recently been re-issued on PlayStation 5 so people can re-experience it...but goddamn, that frame rate is really choppy. It's kinda hard to play today.
Still gonna advocate for an entirely new game. The concept is too cool and it would be refreshing compared to other racers.

as a big racing game fan, especially arcade style and futuristic racers, this game was on my radar. After actually playing it, it's aight. I think aesthetically it looks pretty cool, with comic book-styled character art and some interesting course themes. graphically the game looks okay for its time. I think that the biggest problem the game has is with its controls. You just kind of bump into things sometimes and that flings your dumb rider off of their moto bike and makes you lose a ton of time. Some of the courses are cool but there's a lot of reliance on a grappling hook mechanic that really only works some of the time, which can be frustrating. If things get tightened up in future installments, we might have a pretty cool racing game on our hands here.
Games I Dislike That Everybody Else Likes
Competent, not much else. Impressive for 1996 (especially the vast amount of racers they managed to cram onscreen without sacrificing a ton of performance, even surpassing a lot of the Mario Karts) but those deep-fried, chunky graphics haven't particularly aged that well (they honestly look sickly). The turbo system also kind of sucks but the magnetic grapple is pretty innovative and satisfying to use while snapping around corners. At first it's pretty neat to race on so many different terrains like this in one race, and there are a few really solid tracks but due to its horrid physics the difficulty is stupidly unforgiving to the point of being a chore. Just play Wipeout tbh.
