Rating 6.6/10 - Decent

In terms of presentation, there's no complaints that I can raise. The soundtrack is really strong, the visual style is great and a lot of what's here is very charming.

The story is also strong, as you want to see more from the side characters and it's also pretty clear that the team put a lot of effort on the intro sequence to make sure that it hits the right spot.

The main issues lie in the gameplay. It has a trial and error nature but unfortunately it makes you watch the same cutscene over and over regardless of how many times you decided to finish the small stories and, even that aside, the pace is incredibly slow (for example: every time the characters interact with something a small and unskippable cutscene plays out), something that feels unnecessary in a game that's already meant to be a short experience.

Me fascino, tal vez un poco mas lento de lo que me gusta, pero super disfrutable.

Last Day of June tells a story of regretfully reliving old memories, going over what you could have changed to divert a tragedy. The time loop gameplay with some light puzzle solving serves the story well even if the ultimate point is the futility of it all. They fortunately use some shortcuts to cut down some tedium of replaying certain segments. The artstyle is interesting even if I didn't really like the empty eyeless holes but there definitely seemed like there was budget constraints there and the little voice acting. It's a decent story and it's worth playing through.

Short, beutiful that will get you on your feelings. Sometimes is all you need.

Need to play more of these types of games, really enjoy them!!!

Haunting.

Based on a Steven Wilson masterclass in music storytelling, this game weaves together the concept and emotions of the song and amplifies your perception with striking yet haunting visuals, more of Wilson's beautiful music and a plot that will have you needing a box of tissues and a stone in your chest.

A master-class of indie gaming's ability to tackle styles and genres the bigger companies can't risk and deliver us an experience so unforgettable and beautiful it sits with you for weeks.

Interesting use of the Tower of Hanoi puzzle to design a game.

a strong premise only gets you so far; Last Day of June is a tedious, creatively misguided indie game that’s brevity was very welcome

Sorry Steven Wilson, repeating ever piece of the previous day's puzzle is tedious as hell.

There is something both endearing about Last Day of June and interesting in the way it develops its themes through the game's design. Although, the weird/cute aesthetic cannot save the story from being overwhelmingly shallow.

The game features a lot of backtracking in its time-hopping puzzles, which is both frustrating but also understandable. It's all about the futility of fixing mistakes and whether or not it's worth it spending the time looking at others to fix things rather than looking inward. Unfortunately, even without any dialogue, it's very clear from the beginning what needs to happen. It's emotional and charming, yes, but at the cost of any "ah-hah" moments and more "well, duh" moments.

Although, the game is short and sweet. Worth 2-3 hours? Sure. At least to look at the quirky art direction.

It's got a good style. Interesting how it also uses some sort of painting or brushstroke shader similar to 11-11, but capturing a completely different atmosphere. The time-changing puzzles are nice, but I feel like in the end it's the kind of forced sad ending that so many other games have. It would have been too kitschy if it was happy throughout, but it is kitschy in this state as well.

Decent premise but executed poorly, and I’ll be honest for the most part the story went over my head. A short game but it still felt tedious

Completed with 100% of achievements unlocked; 20/20 memories collected. Last Day of June is a very well-told, emotional game, heightened by a beautiful, painting-like graphical style and soundtrack. The game sees you following its protagonist, Carl, as he relives memories of the day on which his partner was killed, attempting to save her from this fate. It's short - about 3-4 hours for a first playthrough - but not unduly so for its price, and not something that I'd see as a negative for this type of game.

In terms of 'gameplay', the game proceeds through some light exploration based puzzle-solving - this can ocasionally become a little repetitive due to a trial-and-error element, but generally the puzzles remain satisfying, with logically thought-out solutions. One slight annoyance to note is that the trial-and-error parts mean that the game could benefit from a cutscene skip option as you'll end up watching some sequences a few times over, albeit in abbreviated form, but this doesn't detract much from the overall experience.

I added this to my Switch Wishlist about four years ago but only got around to playing it thanks to PS Plus Extra. Although I'm glad I didn't pay for a shittier version on the Switch, I might buy this when it's on sale to support the indie devs because this was actually pretty good!

Halfway through the game, I didn't think I'd write a review as it would've been negative with the saving graces being the art direction (nice colours, dreamy watercolour depth-of-field, great animations) and its accompanying score. I got what is was doing. It showed how you shouldn't misplace your anger because the world is deterministic and you replaying the SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN is exactly like how you replay things in your head in order to rationalise your own mistakes before admitting that you just fucked up. I got that, it just wasn't fun to play.

But once you get the four main puzzles out of the way (70% of the game), it ends superbly and outweighs the tedium. Perhaps it was intentional to disarm us with such boredom in order to catch us off-guard with the emotional ending as the writers are clearly smart. But they also made me watch that car crash 40 times with an overly loud and comical explosion that it lost all weight and would make me laugh so... I doubt it. Seriously though, the ending to this made my body feel weird and numb which was ridiculously surprising. The voice-work meshing with the pensive score along with the repetitive gameplay of the Old Man level really filled me with such dread. Not to mention the trophy/achievement names adding to that which is a really nice touch.

Overall, I think it's worth it for the ending but even without the ending, it is a gorgeous game to look at with some clear heart and passion put into it that has its charm. But it still is, overall, a poor execution of a good concept in my eyes.

I dunno. Hope that makes sense. Make your own mind up. This is one of those one-sitting indie games that people either love or hate.

Last Day of June is an emotional, contemplative adventure game that deals with love, loss and acceptance. It looks absolutely gorgeous, the sound design is spot on and the puzzles are interesting, easy and make sense. This is all about the experience and the whole journey is worth it to see the heart-wrenching ending that not only delivers completely, but even has a few surprises in tow. Ultimately, for me, Last Day of June is a vivid yet somber testament to the fact that everyone has their own story, everyone has experienced loss and grief at one point.

Inspired on one of my favorite songs of a musician I really like so I was really interested to play it. it really delivers on the promise of the song and the game is cool to look at (although the faces without eyeballs can be a little awkward). And the ost is nice as well using songs of the said artist. The biggest problems is the repetition that gets old fast and the near game-breaking bug that me and many people experienced. A really frustrating that sadly the deveoper never acknowledged.

A good story that should probably just be a movie instead of a dull puzzle game.

Este es el juego que más me ha destruido emocionalmente y aunque en algunas cosas falla solo por eso se merece esta nota. Una historia que hay que jugar, acabé temblando.

(Jugabilidad normalita, música excelente y efectos gráficos a veces molestos)
