Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games provides a lighthearted and accessible take on various Olympic events with a whimsical Nintendo twist. While it lacks the depth of a dedicated sports title, the simple motion-based controls make it ideal for casual party play with friends and family. Its charming visuals and diverse roster of characters offer fun for a while, but the events can become repetitive, and the single-player experience feels limited.

This was a neat idea back before they ran it into the ground by making one for every Olympics. It's just a minigame collection, but not a bad one and trying to beat the world records can be surprisingly addictive (although the difficulty of doing so very wildly between events).

also p fun when we were kids. def got sore wrists from one of the swimming events?

Just your usual sports minigame kind of game, from what I remember.

two of the biggest gaming franchises of all time and all that they could come up with was the triple jump

I believe this was actually the first Wii game I ever got, it was a present from one of my aunts.

It's funny because when I got this game, I was familiar with Mario and vaguely familiar with Sonic because of Sonic Riders, but I didn't know this was supposed to be a crossover and a big deal.

And...I guess it really isn't a big deal, because instead of an actual crossover this is what we got. It's fine, I don't really care that it is just a minigame collection, but this is one of the weaker ones.

I think this series would work a lot better if all of the events had a Mario or Sonic twist, like Mario does with his own sports games. Instead, only the dream events work like this, which is a letdown.

It's a fine game, but I don't think I will replay it over any of the other ones that came after.

Not the best party game ever. Not that interesting of an idea for a Mario & Sonic crossover either. Doesn't utilize either IP that well. But it's competent in its own way I guess

Imagine how demoralizing it was for kids in the 2000s, pining for an official Mario & Sonic crossover game, only to get a glorified advertisement for the Beijing Olympic Games.

I played this for a bit, thought the concept was real cool and loved that there were so many characters from both franchises to play as, but all the events are so watered-down, I feel like I'm playing a demo reel of a bunch of failed Next Level Games failures. Oh, and the controls sucked, this was before Wii Motion PLUS.

When i was a kid i skydived as bowser on this game and that unironically broke my wii. Other than that though pretty good

When I dreamt about Mario and Sonic doing a crossover that would be legendary, this isn't exactly what I had in my mind.

Regardless, it exists and honestly, it's decent. Despite the weird idea of Mario, Sonic, and their friends competing in the Olympic Games, it's admittedly a fun concept. But the concept of them being in a fighting game definitely would've been better. (Yes, I know we got Super Smash Bros Brawl a year later, but still.) In terms of enjoyment, I've only played this game whenever my family wanted to or if I was bored. It's just the mere fact this game is an Olympic Games simulator instead of a fighting game that doesn't really give me much incentive to dedicate a lot of time on it. With that, it's more like a "one-and-done" kind of game. I didn't even play the sequels just from pure disinterest.

It's not a bad game by any means and some of the sports are fun, but I never see myself actively replaying it.

This game lowkey is worse than this but nostalgia is one heck of a drug

Allégorie de la guerre froide.
Poignant

not as good as the winter games one :P

Do you think there’s a possibility that Cream is secretly not cool with Vector having a crush on her mom, and this is the main reason she applied to be a referee in the Olympics?

or am I just thinking too hard about the logistics of a 6-year-old cartoon rabbit being handed a gun for athletic events—

Received this game as a gift from my mother, who found it in the bargain bin at Wal-Mart. Played a few times with my brother, but never found it engaging enough to keep coming back to. I will not be returning to this game.

me and laurie had too much fun

I KIND OF LIVE FOR IT EVERYONE CAN PIPE DOWN

This was a banger back in the day.

First few olympic games were solid. After like 2016....eh.

Actually amazing how bad this is compared to the 2010 & 2012 Olympics

an absolute masterpiece of a video game. while at first glance the mini-games are bland and uninspired, with the context of the rest of the trilogy, one can fully appreciate what this game accomplished. the first chapter in a story and one of the games of all time.

How the fuck does someone come up with a game like this? Imagine being a kid around when this came out. You hear Sonic and Mario are finally getting a cross-over and it's this???????
I think, I'd hang myself.
Either way, boring game.

Surprised to see the disdain for our heroes Mario and Sonic! Come on man, this thing's a classic!
