its insane how this shit is still the goat 20 years later. this must be like the fifth or sixth time i've replayed prime, and even now i think it's the only game i love so much that i can actually sit through and finish it in 1-2 sittings. it's a massive comfort game for me and a huge source of nostalgia - but i will admit, every time i finish a new playthrough i find more flaws with it. still, this shit is really nice.

this is probably the best example of a remastered game that looks how you remember it as a kid. they improved upon this game's environments SO fucking well. prime was already a game that looked great for its time, and the remake amps that up to 11 - imo one of the nicest looking games on the switch. i feel like even now the amount of work that went into this game is unappreciated, it's really incredible how they dropped this one and then dipped.

combat feels great as always, and I love how many different control schemes they provided. i was so used to the wii pointer controls that i couldn't imagine using anything else, but i got used to twin stick shooting pretty easily. there were a few times where i fumbled with switching beams or some shit, but it didn't bug me too bad. shooting feels great, platforming gets better and better the further along you go, shit is just NICE man. this is a primo-ass game right here.

i think with this playthrough, though, it finally hit me just how awful the backtracking can feel at times. even when compared to other metroid games, there were plenty of moments that had me scratching my head as to why they'd make me retrace my steps so far for a single upgrade. easily the worst offender was the game leading you directly to the crashed frigate and waiting until you're halfway through it before saying "oops uwu you need the gravity suit get fucked" and making you backtrack through some pretty terrible underwater platforming. then the gravity suit is halfway across the fucking planet! how would i have assumed to go that way without a guide or waiting around for the game to literally show me where it is? if this was literally any other game, i'd be foaming at the mouth over having to spend so much time backtracking - but prime is lucky that i hold it so dearly. it gets a pass, even though i didn't like that shit.

also the x ray and thermal visors are somehow even worse on my eyes than they were in the original release. that's pretty bad too, i always hated using those. but both of these were also issues that were present in the original version, so it's not like i can fault them for it now. these are my only real complaints tbh.

i still think this is one of the best FPS games out there, and one that everyone should try at least once if they haven't already. seriously, if you haven't played prime you gotta rectify that shit!!

Having never fully beaten one, getting a chance to explore it again was one I could not say no to. The gameplay after over 20 years still holds, the maps, the soundtrack, the bosses, all have stood the test of time. It is easy to see why so many people hold it in such high regard. The story only matters as much as the player wants it to, with many optional scans that explain the lore of the planet, but they are not required to understand the general gist.

My only gripes with this game are the fact sometimes it's took dark to see anything (that could very well be a problem with my TV though) and the boss lineup aside from Ridley and the final boss. I would say the backtracking is also a negative but part of what makes metroidvanias so special is going back to previous areas and discovering new things with the new abilities you've acquired and this game was full of that. Other than those possible shortcomings, this is one of the best Metroid games.

I'm not going to be a contrarian and say "IS METROID PRIME AS GOOD AS EVERYONE SAYS???" because obviously it is. everything people say about this game is true. the atmosphere is absolutely phenomenal, the game is gorgeous, the music is incredible, and exploring Tallon IV is a wonderful experience thanks to the genuis interconnected level design. I wish the game was longer tbh! I could've kept going for hours. my only nitpicks are that the Chozo ghosts you summon halfway through the game get super annoying and that the Omega Pirate is a lame boss fight. otherwise, Metroid Prime is an amazing game that deserves its place among the gaming titans.

This is a masterpiece, only blemished by the fetch quest at the end that requires endless backtracking. Just use a guide for that and get it over it. Other than that, it's one of the best games I've ever played. I hope they also remake 1 and 2!

I really want to like this game more, and there's definitely a lot to love about it, from the beautiful world to the atmospheric soundtrack coupled with cool powerups and fun boss fights.

For me though, it got very tedious progressing in the game because of the backtracking and continually getting lost in each area of the map by constantly missing key items and powerups that I thought were very easy to overlook. I'm fine with playing games with a guide and looking stuff up when I feel the need to, but when it becomes something I have to do constantly it does start to wear on me.

The platforming in the lava section of the game was also annoying. One wrong step or a blast from a faraway enemy can send you flying into lava which doesn't automatically kill you but will rapidly drain your health to the point that you wish it had because you'll end up dying before finding a platform to get back on anyway.

Constantly having to switch between your laser cannon and scanner was also awkward; while it didn't matter in the emptier parts of the map, it could mean the difference between taking massive amount of damage or even falling into lava in rooms with enemies.

Maybe I will continue this game one day, because I did truly enjoy it and just stopped playing before the annoyances eventually caught up with me, but I don't feel confident that I can even finish it without watching a full walkthrough first.

It was a fun experience. I got angry a few times and lost but it was still a good experience. I didn't get all the collectibles for that extra ending but yeah it was still fun. I'll definitely look into playing prime 2 and 3 if they get remastered.

I wanted to absolutely love this game, but I couldn't.
While the game looks absolutely amazing, the world, atmosphere and music are on point, I had a lot of problems with the overall gameplay loop.

Full disclosure, I played this on Normal difficulty and I wish I hadn't. My biggest issue was that I felt the main enemies were absolute bullet-sponges. Fights would become less of a skill requirement and more of an exercise in patience. I only died around 5 times in total in the game (3 of those being the penultimate boss which also suffered from this ridiculous issue), so difficulty wasn't a massive problem for me.
The transition from 2D to 3D Metroid was done pretty well for the most part, although I felt like the game needed to hold my hand a little more, personally. I felt completely lost most of the time after picking up an upgrade, and had to have a walkthrough on standby on occasions where I'd be wandering around for ages.
I know the game does give you a hint after a while, but even then the map is a little annoying to navigate.
To conclude, I was a little disappointed with my experience with Metroid Prime, but I wouldn't be reluctant to try other entries in the 3D series, I just think the 2D games are more my cup of tea.

Nintendo Switch 😉 | 14/01/2024 - 15/02/2024

Nota: 7.5

✅PROS

Something that always turned me off about the original release of Prime was the control scheme; having no camera aiming is a struggle to get around. The remaster with a 'modern' control scheme leaves me no excuses.

That being said, this is an excellent experience. Exploring Tallon IV is a joy, constantly opening up new areas and finding secret areas for items never gets old. Even regular backtracking, a feature synonymous with the Metroid franchise, is never boring when you consider optimizing your routes and revisiting areas to use newly collected upgrades.

Speaking of upgrades, Samus gets several across the game, including suit upgrades (Nothing new if you haven't played a Metroid game), missiles and beams for your blaster. As opposed to previous metroids, these have to be switched manually. Each one is distinct enough to offer clear advantages without mitigating the rest, especially when incorporated into solving puzzles and defeating enemies. That being said, switching beams quickly to kill enemies with specific weaknesses can be a juggling match if you don't want to lose several bars of health.

The last major point of discussion, the story, is interesting, however it does require that you are invested from the start. If you aren't scanning major logs from the start of the game, you're likely to miss the mountain of lore around the old and new civilizations of Tallon IV. Under the dangerous and infested surfaces and depths of the planet is a story about loss and despair coupled with greed and power, and the outcomes of both.

Overall, Metroid Prime Remastered is an excellent game that every gamer should experience at least once in their life.

Fuck the Chozo Artifacts though, that can suck it

El mejor videojuego que existe para Nintendo Switch.

I couldnt really get into hollow knight so i thought metroidvanias just werent my thing.
When this remaster came out i thought i would give this genre another chance and man am i glad i did.
The atmospere is just astounding, i have never played a game like this.
While some annoyances hold it back from being a 5/5 its still an all time classic.
I sincerely hope nintendo give 2 and 3 the same treatment!

Metroid Prime Remastered is a perfect remaster of a very flawed game. It's one of the best looking games on the Switch, with gorgeous environmental design and beautifully reworked lighting and effects. The low texture resolution is pretty much the only complaint to make at this point, and it's a very minor one. Overall image quality is sharp and the game runs without any fps drops. Compared to the original, Prime now has a 16:9 widescreen resolution and a variety of reworked control option. I chose the default control scheme with gyro aiming and had a serviceable experience, although swapping between beams (essentially the different weapons in Prime) felt somewhat clunky and unresponsive at times.

I mentioned above that I consider this to be a flawed game, but that doesn't mean that it's a bad experience. There's much to enjoy here, and it's unfortunate that Metroid Prime never became as genre defining as the 2D Metroids were. Excluding the other Prime games, there are simply no shooters like this. Metroid Prime values exploration and atmosphere over combat and quick reflexes. You can go through entire areas without encountering the default humanoid shooty enemies that are the standard throughout the shooter genre. When you eventually end up in a confrontation with either the local wildlife or space pirates, positioning and choice of beam type are always more important than the act of aiming.

The moment I felt the game was truly special was when I unlocked a new weapon and, instead of contemplating its effectiveness against enemies, I thought about all the areas I could now access. As cliché as it might sound, the game truly makes you feel like it's you alone, tasked with exploring this alien planet with its ruined civilization.

Unfortunately, the game does have a few issues. On the one hand, I think the developers choosing not to implement too many quality of life changes is commendable. For example, implementing fast travel would have destroyed the feeling of an interconnected world without loading screens. On the other hand, I'd hoped for at least some kind of autosave. Some might argue that autosaves would hurt the game's intended difficulty, but I think a one time continue point similar to the Dark Souls save system would've worked well here. The Switch is a portable console, and losing up to 30 minutes because you had to stop your play session or decided to play something else can be frustrating.

Even worse are the games final 2-3 hours. Space pirates and Metroids become the primary enemy type to fight, and neither are especially fun to face off against. Players will also encounter more and more platforming segments, which aren't the games strongest mechanic either. And then, just when you're about ready to face the final bosses with all your upgrades, you need to backtrack through all the game's areas to collect 12 artefacts, grinding the games pacing to a screeching halt. At this point, a lot of players will feel compelled to pick up a guide, which isn't exactly great for a game focused on exploration.

My frustration culminated in a room right before the final boss. The room consisted of a platforming section players had to traverse whilst being attacked by flying enemies. If you miss a platform, you fall down and have to start over again. If you collide with one of the flying enemies, you most likely fall down and have to start over again. If one of the enemies latches onto you, your screen gets distorted, you most likely miss your platform, fall down, and have to start over again. Now for the real fun part: even if you somehow manage to not fall down when an enemy latches on to you, the only way to get rid of them is to turn into a ball and detonate a bomb (it makes more sense in context, bear with me). However, detonating said bomb does not only get rid of the enemy, it will also catapult you in the air, and can easily make you roll of the platform once you fall down, leading to you having to restart all over again.

I know, this sounds like complaining for the sake of complaining, but I just had less and less fun the longer I played, and those last 2-3 hours were the one point pretty much everyone criticized the original game for. Before those, I had considered the game to be essentially perfect, and I'm somewhat sad that I can't fully recommend Prime Remastered because of it. That being said, I still believe that every fan of the fps genre should at least try the game for themselves, if only to see what the genre is truly capable of.

I can for the most part understand why people gave this game such glowing reviews back in the day Retro was able to take the Metroid formula and effortlessly convert it into 3D which is double impressive for this game being the studio's first game and how it seemed like a project that was doomed from the start since Nintendo didn't seem to care what retro was doing hence why their founder was using the money given to him to host porn sites

I'd say the biggest gripe I have with this game is kind of how slow it is compared to something like Super Metroid but that's understandable when you're working with an fps framework the thing I just plain got annoyed about was the sheer amount of backtracking there is compared to super or even fusion it just got tedious

overall a game that holds up well to this day and is another game that reminds me of the best generation gaming being the GameCube era they also did a mostly fantastic game job remastering this game taking an already really good-looking game and made it better the only cons being it can get overly dark and hard to see in some areas and the thermal visor looking like ass

Had to give this five stars because this is one of the greatest remasters I've ever seen.

Extremely good. One of those games where I play the first hour and think "this is alright I guess". But I'm drawn back and then after a 3 hour straight play session I go to bed wanting nothing more than to go back to that spider ball spot in the Magmoor caverns that I forgot to check before switching the game off. Amazed at how well the Metroid formula transfers to first person. Am now excited for Prime 4.

One criticism: when you're designing a game where you rely on the map so heavily, let me see EXACTLY where elevators take me. "Tallon Overworld East" - cool, how about when I push A on the elevator symbol on the map, you just show me the room I'm about to go to - is that okay? No? Okay I'll just go fuck myself then

yes, samus, your graphics are very good but you still can't open a white door

Un chef d'oeuvre, j'ai adoré le découvrir avec ce remake et j'attends les prochains :)

WE LOVE STRONG INDEPENDANT WOMEN
also one of my favourite games of all time

Very cool game overall. I had some of the same frustrations I've had with every Metroid-vania I've played. Lots of backtracking and repetitive combat. Cool bossfights though.

First time playing a Metroid Prime; well, actually, I've only played Dread before this one, so I'm a Metroid newbie. It is an amazing game; I enjoyed it sooo much and couldn't stop playing. Maybe no teleport is a big mistake, and also, I hate when games have their whole story in texts; I don't know who reads that, but for sure not me. I would have liked to know the story though; I'll have to watch a YouTube video, but cutscenes were missing in this game. Everything else is really good; the bosses were creative and fun to beat (not the last one).

One of the surprise releases of 2023, this was the first time I played the first Metroid Prime, and I'm happy to say that it's one of my favorite gaming experiences I had this year!

The sense of being alone on this planet figuring out what exactly is going on was fun from beginning to end. It's also one of the prettiest games out there on the Switch, and runs super smooth! The music and ambience fits perfectly for the colorful areas that you traverse on this lonely planet.

The isolated feeling you get from this game might make it, for me, one of the most immersive games I have ever played. So many little details can be seen if you take the time to look, and makes everything feel so real. And it doesn't feel like you're going through menus, since its all integrated on Samus' visor in some way.

It is very difficult as well. If you are not prepared for what is coming, you will get your ass kicked in one way or another. But it's very rewarding to figure out patterns and how to kill the bosses here. If i had any kind of complaint it would be the backtracking, it could be a little cumbersome if you didn't pay enough attention to certain clues that the game lays out for you, but that is only a small gripe to have.

This a game that I'll remember and I will come back to this from time to time.

While this game does have some faults (some puzzles are really obtuse and the final boss's gimmick is really annoying), I had a really good experience with MP1R and would highly recommend checking out for it's world and atmosphere alone. Easily some of the best I've seen in a video game

Metroid Prime is the game that made me fall in love with the Metroid series. I loved the original game so much that I ended up playing it twice back-to-back. I don’t think I have ever done that with a game before or since. With that in mind, you can probably guess my feelings on this remaster. It’s just as good as the original game with a beautiful coat of paint that is so good it honestly almost threads the line to being a full blown remake instead. Reflections look stunning and blast effects feel as vibrant and powerful as it felt using them in the original version. It’s probably one of the best looking games on the Switch and with a stable 60 fps it is a breeze to play. Most of my major complaints are moreso on things that weren’t changed in the remaster that were in the original. The Chozo artifact hunt is as arbitrary as ever without any way to mitigate the backtracking. An item tracker, which is something 2D Metroid titles have nailed down, still has not crossed over to the Prime series and thus going for 100% still feels like something I will only ever do once. Those complaints aside, this is still a great package and should definitely be the first entry any newcomers should try when playing through the namesake of the Metroidvania genre.

Glad I got around to playing this classic. This was my first metroid game. It’s undeniable what this game did for Metroid and its history. Incredible soundtrack & atmosphere, with some great bosses and power ups to collect. Only seeing Samus with the morph ball and arm canon so I was pleasantly surprised with all of the power ups in this. Theres a great story and lore by using the scanner visor. A lot of the enemies have cool designs. Some of the bosses are a bit boring though in my opinion (hive mecha, Sheegoth, Thardus). While others are great like Flaahgra, Meta Ridley, and Metroid Prime. The end game is where the game is a lot more lackluster and tedious with the backtracking. I think it would be a lot more beneficial to not have to collect the artifacts. Overall, an amazing game I enjoyed a lot

What a game.

Even though i haven't played all the metroid game yet, I think I can still confidently say that this...is the peak of the franchise.

The original managed to make the perfect conversion of a metroid game in the 3rd dimensions...and this remaster... basically keep every great about the original, but wrap everything with a gorgeous overall of the visual...to the point that I can't consider this game a simple remaster...It's a straight up remake.

This games world...is just incredible to explore. Every corner of it feels natural and yet so well design with dozens of things to discover or to come back to later on in the game with new abilities or knowledge to master this incredible masterclass of a world design.

Samus just feel great to control. Aside for some weird but extremely rare problem with the physics, this game makes controlling her so immersive and satisfying to boot. And every single ability you unlock are useful in their own way: between the graplin hook or the gravity ball that allow you more freedom to explore the world, the various weapon with theirs pros and cons, the different kind of vision you can use for puzzle or even in combat to spot certain enemy...this game has it all.

Also, unlike metroid prime 3 (that I also loved btw), this game give you so much more freedom about how you will explore this world. As soon as you unlock one ability, 3 doors opens, and each door will leads you to other doors that may or may not great you reserve or new ability for you to play with.

And the bossfight are fantastic, and the music immersive and yet memorable at the same time. And the enemy variety is great and god, this game is just fantastic.

Ultimately, it still have some issue, like the not always satisfying hunt for the artifact, or the rather simple enemy encounter that, while fun, can be kinda tedious sometimes, but other than that, this game is flawless.

And If this serv has some kind of teaser for metroid prime 4...omg...
