The game became dead on the 3rd game investigation out of 4. I endured for a long time that now it would be interesting, but I’d rather play Japanese crosswords without a ton of meaningless text and zero characters.

Игра стала мертва на 3 игровом расследовании из 4. Я долго терпел, что вот сейчас, будет интересно, но лучше я поиграю в японские кроссворды без тонны бессмысленного текста и нулевых персонажей.

i love picross and i love murder but i have yet to finish the game because i seem to be missing something in the second case and its killing me

Who thought of this? What cruel man made it? Its pretty good though

the visual novel aspect is meh but i love picross. Trying to 100% was a major pain because you can miss unnecessary clues and to get them you have to redo every picross from the beginning of the case

Everything you want in a picross-meets-murder. Just a little annoyed I got locked out of an S Rank chapter TWICE.

Fun game, I hope it gets a sequel. It's a mix of picross (nonograms) and the investigation sections of Ace Attorney. I didn't like the writing and the pacing really slow.<spoiler>Also accusing everyone and being wrong almost every time didn't really carry the weight I felt that it should. I also found it weird that new evidence would appear despite the area not changing at all since the last time I would check for evidence.</spoiler>I wasn't a big fan of the characters for the most part, but I had a strange sense of attachment when everything was over, the same kind of feeling of comfort when you see the credits roll in Ace Attorney and you see what the cast has been up to after the game ends. It was frustrating seeing how incompetent everyone was though. At a certain point, I felt picross fatigue where the puzzles went from being a highlight of my experience to an absolute slog. I hit a point where I wanted the game to be over and to just continue with the story, but I would be hit with non-stop puzzles. I'm also upset because I got a S rank in all cases except the 3rd one because there are missable puzzles. That being said, I did really appreciate the difficulty options and the hint system they added.

I love picross, and I'll take it in any form I find it.

I love solving nonograms, and I love mistery stories, so this was a perfect match for me. The characters are enjoyable and likeable, the cases are pretty good (save for the last one, which definitely needed some more polish), and the integration of puzzle-solving into the gameplay is a neat mechanic... even if you have to replay the case from the beginning to find any puzzles you missed (since you need them all to unlock extra content).

Overall, a fun and charming little game. Hoping for a sequel.

Kind of a whiff as far as the mystery stuff goes, but really all you need to get me onboard with a VN is a fun colorful cast and this game certainly has that, so. And you don't exactly need to use force to get me to play picross for hours at a time either. Good game! Kind of a bummer Mediatonic will never make anything even slightly like this again but oh well.

i like ace attorney and i like picross, so i should play more of this.

A neat Ace Attorney-esque game featuring Picross, which I love. It’s short and sweet and the story is nothing terribly interesting but it’s engaging nonetheless. Honor is a fun protagonist, even as her story comes to a halt by the final chapter in favor of S.C.O.U.T.- who’s not as bad as one may think. Other characters range from frustrating to charming, but are overall pretty okay. This game has some of the most casual LGBT rep I’ve seen in gaming, which was pleasantly surprising for me whether or not it appeals to you. All in all, it’s a pretty alright game, and I’d recommend it. Not something I’d ever consider myself a huge fan of but something I thoroughly enjoyed my time with nonetheless.

Story wasn't interesting and the puzzles were wayyy too easy to keep me engaged. Extra star for the sick-ass anime opening though.

I am too dumb for these puzzles and the storyline did not grip me. However, I refuse to give any game where the protagonist is a hot Jewish woman anything lower than a 3.

A great start, I need this to be a bigger game with more complicated cases, deeper character relations and more intriguing story. Maybe something like Ace Attorney where you actually have to use your brain cells to solve stuff. So far the greatest picross game I have played due to its originality.

The concept sounds novel: A murder mystery visual novel mixed with picross, but in reality it's not terribly interesting. It's just a murder mystery game that has you do picross here and there to uncover clues essentially. The picross does break up the monotony of the visual novel style gameplay, which is appreciated, but that is really all it does. Otherwise it is just your standard picross.

Storywise I also don't have a lot to say either. It's entertaining enough, but it wasn't engaging enough for me get through the whole thing. The writing is solid with lots of humor, but the plot leaves a bit to be desired.

Overall, this game just feels like came from a group of friends being like "Yo wouldn't a picross murder mystery be sick?! " without actually considering how either genre could the other one shine. It just plays as though they shoved a picross minigame into a murder mystery, and called it a day. If you like both genres, certainly go play it, but it isn't anything special.

visual novels can be cool, and i love picross, so i figured i would give this one a shot, especially considering i got it for free.

the character designs are cool sometimes, and i think the game has some charm. however, the actual plot happening here really wasn't interesting to me. the cases are formatted as murder mysteries, but none of them really feel like murder mysteries with satisfying conclusions or complex methods of execution that you have to put together yourself. for a long time it felt like the game was promising something better would be up ahead repeatedly, but by the time i eventually made it to the end of the final case, the game just kinda,,, ended. the most fun characters that i enjoyed early on weren't even present for the majority of the final case, and its conclusion really soured any enjoyment i had of the plot previously. i didn't think it would be peak storytelling or anything, but i was hoping it would be at least mildly satisfying.

i will say this. i knew nothing about this game going in, and i was surprised by the quality of the representation. the main character is a strong and independent recently divorced woman of color (hell yeah ???), and there's a pretty strong queer presence, especially during the third case. i thought it was all handled with tact, and it made these characters feel normal, which is something i really like.

if you like picross, there's better games to play for picross. i got S rank on all four cases and solved all of the unlocked puzzles in "SCOUT's memories," and the largest puzzles ever get is up to 20x15. there's no zoom, and there's not as many nice QOL features as something like in Jupiter's Picross (Picross S, etc.) or Pictopix on steam.

i liked moments in its visual novel portions, but seeing as you're mostly just going to be playing picross, especially if you go for 100% like I did, you're probably just better off playing a dedicated picross game.

Send help, I apparently love Picross? Additctive, relaxing, almost meditative. I shall now search far and wide for the best Picross games. (If you know any, please send me your recommendations)
Apart from that a light but fun visual novel, great character writing and designs, alright plot. Audio feels somewhat derivative, mostly of Ace Attorney (some of those sound effects are almost one to one), but also of AI The Somnium Files, weirdly enough?
Anyway, introduced me to picross, 10/10

I like visual novels and I LOVE picross, so this game hits both of those marks. It's a very fun game with a lot of character, and I love both a strong woman AND a robot. Never ended up finishing it... maybe I'll pick it back up again soon.
This game is what Phoenix Wright characters play instead of normal Picross.

This is a really good game, but the usual description you'll see everywhere 'Picross meets Ace Attorney' is not true.
The detective part of the gameplay is minimal and only serves for the plot. You are going to do the usual detective work, like finding inconsistencies in alibis or searching crime scenes, but there's no challenge and only serves the plot.
The game is picross with a story all the way, so if you like picross you're gonna love it.
The story is nice, although the final case was a bit anticlimactic, but the characters are all fun. The soundtrack is amazing! Contender for best ost in recent years.
The content is also pretty rich. There are extra picross puzzles independent from the story. A 100% completion is close to 25 hours.
Lovely game if you like picross. If you don't but you only want to play it for the detective work look somewhere else.

Banger game but more quality of life features would make the shift between them story of the game and the actual picross. Good concept, fun story, but could be better.

This game is in a weird place that it takes enough inspiration from Ace Attorney games that someone that likes those games might like this but because of its nonogram puzzles it's different enough that Ace Attorney fans might not like it.

The story is fine, it has a lot of plot holes and contrivances though, but is salvaged by its charming characters.

Liked the story and picross is picross.
The worst thing – you need to not use hints if you want to have the best ranking and the game doesn't tell you that.

Não cheguei a terminar a história ainda porquê os puzzles ficaram repetitivos e entediante depois de um tempo.
Mas não duvido que seja boa.

Maybe right after I played it I would've given it 4 stars, but. Been replaying it this year to unlock all the picross puzzles and the dialogue (and story) feels... eh, on my second go around.

Picross is fun and the adventure game plot is okay but they really don't work together.
If you want to solve picross puzzles you can easily find a way to do so that lets you play as many or as few as you want at a time.
If you want to enjoy the plot it'll shove picross puzzles in your face before you can advance it, sometimes several in a row.
This works ok at first but when you go further in it becomes a major problem. The later chapters having more complicated puzzles mean you can go around 10 or 20 minutes before advancing the dialogue leading to a very frustrating time and poor plot pacing.

Mélange assez original entre un jeu d'aventure/VN et un Picross. Les deux parties sont chacune hélas un poil trop simplistes dans leur mise en oeuvre pour que la sauce prenne totalement. Restent une écriture enlevée et une chouette galerie de persos.

Decent picross but the writing doesn't hold up its end of the bargain.

On it's surface this game looks a lot like the investigation sections of Ace Attorney mixed with Picross/Nonograms. And as far as the gameplay goes that is pretty much the case.

Where this game really shone for me is the story and the characters. Everyone felt well written and meshed well together and the story, whilst short, felt perfectly paced for the story they were trying to tell.

One thing this game also does is that it leaves things open for a sequel without making the story feel incomplete. Normally this would be great, but that is where capitalism rears it's ugly head.

You see this game was made by Mediatonic, the developers of the popular F2P game Fall Guys. Who eneded up getting purchased by Epic Games.

Now if you had asked me a few months ago I would have thought that a Murder by Numbers sequel wasn't gonna be likely any time soon but was still possible, but now I'm not too sure.

Recently Epic have practically gutted Mediatonic in the name of cost cutting. So anyone there is likely too busy with Fall Guys to work on a sequel, and even then that depends on the people behind this still being with the company.

Maybe we will be lucky and the people who brought Murder by Numbers into the world can go independent and that they can somehow get access to the IP. But I'm not gonna hold my breath.
