initially had it at 4 stars because I caved to the peer pressure of this game being hailed as a masterpiece but decided to be true to myself and knocked it down 1 star.
Honestly? I just don't think I understood this game. Granted, I was really fucking young when I played it and so I was definitely punching above my weight class in terms of comprehension because clearly it's supposed to be a subversion but at the time, I hadn't really played many games? So... I didn't know what it was trying to subvert. This game falls into the same category as Hylics in my mind, but something about Hylics was much more enjoyable... Perhaps the absurdity of the latter was humourous and brought levity while the absurdity here was just confusing to little old me.
(I played this game because I thought Zacharie looked cool. Please excuse me, I was but a wee middle schooler, okay?)
I'll get around to replaying this at some point.

Okay, OFF...
This is the easiest game I've ever played.
The visuals are amazing, the music is wonderful, a mixture of really good atmospheric tracks and really catchy tunes.
But good god there's just no Game in this Video Game.
You have so much health you have to go out of your way to get a game over, the enemies are braindead to fight, the bosses even moreso.
The story's also way too confusing, something the game's developer admitted himself.
I think you'd have more fun watching videos explaining the story and listening to the OST over actually playing the game, it's just kind of a slog.

This is one of the most "think outside the box" games i have ever played. I have never felt the way i have felt playing this game. It's barely even a game at points, almost mocking you or the idea. It's story is barely even a story, holding on by mere threads. Yet, the ending to this game nearly made me cry. Why? I have no idea. The music in this game is unlike any video game soundtrack i have ever heard. It's dystopian, industrial, grimy; much like the entire message of the game, or at least the message i came away with. This game is a masterpiece, from beginning to end.
