Reviews from

in the past

NOTE: this is more of an initial thoughts and feelings than a full review. As I have only played a few hours after spending lots of time playing with it as a kid.

Menu/Options:
Fantastic Main menu music. Charming car noises play when options are selected, feels like a lot of car went into the production.
Variety of accessibility options and settings to alter the experience you get, the ability to choose what type of physics simulation you would like to race under is cool choice , though I haven tried them all to find the differences in gameplay.

Gameplay: Fun, tracks are interesting and unique, they use the size of the RC cars to their advantage with lots of level changes, Jumps and intersecting paths and a variety of starter Cars to choose from with more to unlock(0 unlocked so far), though I haven't put too many hours into it yet. Enemy Racers are quite tough opponents and I am finding the game quite challenging so far.
Handling can be a bit unpredictable and I assume quite close to actual RC cars.
Power-Ups are a bit useless sometimes but I have yet to really get into the nitty-gritty of using them yet.

During my first ever LAN party we played this. It was also the first time I had a game shared with me. Suddenly, a whole new game, downloaded right through the LAN! How amazing is that? This game still holds up today, I hear. I loved being a miniature in such highly detailed environments. Wouldn't mind another LAN party with this, two decades later.

my childhood game :') its perfact game

For a 1999 game, this is a powerhouse in terms of its physics and looks. Plus its online community is thriving, offering one of the most competitive multiplayer experiences on the market to this day.

✯☆☆☆☆ PSone Version

TL;DR
If you are interested in revisiting Re-Volt or playing it for the first time, I highly recommend downloading RVGL.

RVGL is a significantly improved version of the game made by the community and still being updated to this day. It is free to download and can be played with or without original game files as they have included made from scratch resources. As someone who has played Re-Volt in many forms, I can easily say that this is not only the best way of playing the game, but it does not in any way compromise playing the game as it was originally presented as all user-made content or changes are optional.

Simply put, this is one of the best and most unique racing games out there, and is probably the premier RC car racing game available, having never been topped since 1999. It is somehow just so enjoyable to drive these RC cars around in this game, and the weapons all mess with your physics meaning every hit from a weapon or collision with another car or obstacle creates a dynamic situation to where no race is ever the same. It's a fantastic game and I recommend you play it however possible, but I wanted to make a review with some advice on how to do so.

Re-Volt was purchased after Acclaim went out of business by a company that has done little for the game outside of porting it to mobile and trying to sell it on GOG with a community made patch without any sort of communication with the patches developers. It is now available on Steam being sold by some other shady company that again has done nothing more than make the game available for purchase with no improvements to performance or compatibility. I strongly recommend you do not buy this game from these companies, and instead download and play the community made RVGL source port which allows you to not only play Re-Volt for free, but also allows you to access thousands of pieces of user-made content such as more cars and tracks, as well as play online with a regularly active community, something not possible at all in the original.

Does anybody remember the UFO password?

Racing game of my childhood.
Brother played it again some months ago and it still felt great.
Many cars, all are pretty distinct from one another and some are VERY distinct making some very good and some pointless or just comic relief.
Cool tracks, not too many.
Power ups, not very BS. I could say there are some that have no counter play, but just drive fast and you should be good.
Real cute.
Recommend.
Play it if you can. If not, piracy is always an option, that is if your conscience can resist the sense of guilt. My brother did, so it should be fine.

Playing this game when you can barely read is a great and incredible experience. Loved driving around for hours doing the free race mode (did it have one or did a I imagine that.) Finding all the secret paths and trying to get there was a blast

I, like many others, can't help but rave about the spot-on toy card physics of this game. It has to be played to be believed. RVGL and the huge modding community for the game are awesome. It's actually like racing toy RC cars with people around the world. An exciting assortment of feelings ensue!

they have nailed the RC car physics because it's just as frustrating as driving them irl

Fine rc car racing game, lovely ost

My favorite racing game, its got everything that I want from it: nice track and car variety, charming visuals that make it a joy to go through the races, amazing soundtrack and great modding support.

The community is still very much alive and there's a community maintained port of the game called RVGL which is definitely the best way to play, it enables better hardware compatibility, expands modding capability and improves multiplayer. Either way this game is worth playing through any of the PC releases, be it the original 1999 one or the new patched release.

I really can't vibe with how skittery these RC cars control, but it makes sense so whatever. It does have a BANGING soundtrack and I love being small so it rocks.
