Right off rip, it's a 2016 game and that is a large part of its identity. I played it for the first time in 2024. This meant that Harambe jokes and South Park swear humour didn't hit the same as it would when I was 12. In fact for me it doesn't hit at all.
Gunplay wise it's kinda mediocre. I never really had to think about it even though I played on the hardest difficulty and ended up just defaulting to whatever gets me through the enemy slop quickest.
Story wise, I'll be honest, I never even remotely paid attention to because I couldn't feel anything for any of the characters other than a mild annoyance.

This game turned my brain to sludge. I don't know if they were trying to make this a procedural Borderlands-like looter or what but it simply did not work for me. It worked so little for me I seriously struggle to remember the moment to moment gameplay of this, it all blends together in a terrible sludge smoothie. Nothing about this game makes sense in any way in connection to the Shadow Warrior reboot this is a sequel of, and I wasn't even the biggest fan of SW's story.
This shlock is all bloated "style" and ""funny joke"" to hide that it has nothing of interest within it. If it didn't have co-op (so I could force a friend to play it with me haha thanks buddy) I don't think I could have finished this, and that's some harsh critique considering I have a high tolerance for flawed games and garbage.

Shadow Warrior 2 is a mess, but I just couldn't stop playing it! It's an extremely fun time, with some huge flaws that makes it difficult to stand out from its genre peers.
What made SW2 so addctive for me is the freedom of mobility! It's fast-paced, with a satisfying combat system and a nice variety of enemies and guns for you to run, loot and shoot your way through the campaign. It gives you room for improvisation and growth, killing repetition and keeping the challenge fair and entertaining. It's shooting and moving mechanics work so well that gets close to other games like Doom and Borderlands 2, in terms of enjoyment, but it's just not polished enough to stand besides them. One other thing that kept me going was the story. It's not great, but it's very funny! The writing cracked me up sometimes and characters were actually quite humorous and cool to pay attention to. My only gripe with the story is it's ending. It's abrupt and pointless.
But while I couldn't stop playing SW2, I also couldn't help but notice it's jarring defects. The entire game, while amusing, feels unpolished and underdeveloped. One of it's biggest problems is the fact that you'll simoutaneously face TOO MANY BULLET SPONGEY enemies, ALL THE TIME, CROWDING the screen and unecessarily WASTING your health, ammo, time and patience. It's a clusterfuck of a messy hostile party and it just gets worse towards the end. On top of that, the UI is downright ugly! It makes everything confusing. The looting system isn't user-friendly enough for you to understand and remember what is what. It's chaos! Upgrades can feel useless, the loot is redundant, ammo is somewhat scarce, objectives are dull, melee combat feels toothless and I've also experienced several bugs that forced me to restart the game.
I finished Shadow Warrior 2 in 10 hours and I had A LOT of fun with it, but its faults made it VERY hard for me to even think about going back to it or recommend the game. If you want mindless funny entertainement, you'll find it here, but you'll also experience plenty of set backs that might hinder your enjoyment.

As a big fan of the first game I cannot express how disappointed I was by this game. I usally give games a chance but 2 hours into this I still hated it so I have decided to not waste the little time I have to game on it.
This game manages to mess up everything that made the first game great. I went into this wanting to play a super fun and mindless fps but what I was met with was an overwhelming looter shooter. There is no form of progression as this game is just constantly throwing new weapons and several perks at you constantly. I very quickly stopped equipping the perks I was picking up otherwise I would be spending half of my playtime in the menus. It reminds me of how Forza Horizon 5 would throw new items and events at you every 5 seconds which was just overwhelming to the point I stopped playing, much like this game. Oh and on top of that I found the combat to be very boring as they decided to make the enemies more bullet spongey with health bars.
The dialogue is god awful and cringey. The only funny lines in this are ones reused from the first game. All the new characters are either bland or annoying and the story is not intersting whatsoever. Oh and the achievments are still as broken as the first games so it is good to see they didn't bother fixing that.
Overall, everything I love about the first game is utterly destroyed in the sequel hence my hatred for this game. The game does look nice and run really well but that is about all I can commend.

This game was so close to being good. It basically fixed all the gameplay issues from the previous game, polished it up and gunplay is smooth as fuck. But they really really had to drop the ball on this and make this a live servicey looter shooter with proceedurley generated maps, rather than the handcrafted design DOOM-like maps of the previous game making this game more of a chore to play.
The first part was funny, but the second broke all records for the laziness of the developers to come up with something new, creating just a worthless RPG component where it was not required, but for those who like to collect everything that is not nailed down and use it to soullessly kill enemies.

some of the hardest hitting melee combat, slickest environments, and funnest guns to shooteth all in a certifiably awesome b-movie story, dragged to hell by an ever-pervasive and cumbersome looter shooter system (and if you try to half-ass it you get brickwalled cuz it's an action rpg). i am NOT the kind of person to shit on a game for being a little tedious or flawed, but man, this goes far beyond "a little". if i had 20 hours to spend relearning the ropes and getting my hands dirty with the grinding and item management it might be fine? as it stands, i basically have to start from scratch every time i go more than a few weeks without playing this. that's stupid. this is stupid. the gore is fantastic tho
I WANNA LOVE U BUT I CANT...

Shadow Warrior 2 gives some certain adrenaline in a lot of situations. I loved the story, the visuals, the gameplay, the variety of weapons, and Lo Wang's ninja-like mobility. Enjoy this frenetic game with lots of comedy, hunt rabbits, slice enemies or fill them with bullets! Get ready for bosses and their elemental weaknesses, and loot everything you can! Plus, the soundtrack is on point!
I want to start with the story. Honestly, I didn't expect much from the story, I didn't go in with that expectation, but it's not too bad, it's an average story. What embellishes the story is our character's temperament and his style is funny, the dialogues and references are very good.
The atmosphere is average, to be honest, most of the episode designs gave me a headache. Everything looks complicated and very fast. It's like at some point you lose your purpose and it turns into something where you're just hunting creatures and it repeats itself. To cover this feeling of repetition, they exaggerated the weapon variety, which is glaring.
Hitting, breaking and everything like that is fine, but as I said, it's so fast that you don't understand what you're doing, and the feeling that you're attacking like a monster is very strong.
Real quotes from real people in between add a different flavor. I think the game characters are also appropriate for the environment.
This diversity overwhelmed me a bit, this visual feast blinded me a bit, but I wanted to finish what I started and the story was long and I started to get bored.
In general, it's an average game, they tried to do something different in its genre, and it was different, but they missed the dose, the inconsistencies are all over the game like the character of the game.
