I preferred the first game, I liked the more linear level design. Also Sly is the most fun character to play

A huge step up from Sly 1, changing and expanding upon it massively. The story and character writing is amazing, the character design/style unique and awesome, being able to play as the ENTIRE gang, the level design, and OHHHH my god the OST are all fantastic.

One of the big issues this game has that people gloss over is that 100%ing it, at least in my opinion, is way less satisfying. All of the pages are hidden in the hub worlds instead of in the levels themselves. Also, they backed themselves into a hole narrative-wise. In the first game you had a really good reason to want to get all the pages back cause the Thevius Racoonus is a family heirloom. It's not as compelling here, I dunno. Small detail.

Other than that this is a great game. I'd say that Sly 2 goes in a different direction instead of being a derivative sequel, so the two games are supplementary. There's some really memorable levels and story beats.

Still great. It builds on the first game, the writing is better, the gameplay is more varied, and it's an all-around super fun and charming platformer.

Fun as hell game, better than Sly 1 in numerous ways even if some worlds are rougher around the edges.

However, half-star off (not really) for somehow breaking my decade-and-a-half muscle memory of 3D camera controls to the point where both inverted and normal cameras feel wrong now. I don't know how or why, but this game's camera has genuinely fucked with my head ever since I beat it.

Favorite of the series. The hub areas were really fun to traverse, the level design wasn't super linear, and the enemies didn't take years to kill.

Excellent game. A ton of variety with the levels and missions, and I mean a TON of variety. All the missions would surprise me with how different it would be. 99% of them were fun as hell.

Excellent music, especially in Paris, loved that first level.
Excellent voice cast.

Only negative was 1 of the areas of the game, the 3rd one, was a pain in the ass to traverse or navigate. Sour spot on the whole game but I still loved my time with this game and the missions in the area. Definitely an essential play for the ps2.

I used to think this game was mid.

Nah this game is good. Real good.

Easily the best thing I can say about Sly 2 is that it has some dang good style. Its comic-book visuals and television-style framing make even the more mediocre missions a joy to play through. Sly 2 is the textbook example of how interesting framing and proper establishment of character motivations is essential to great video game storytelling. The narrative itself is expertly paced and almost always maintains an appropriate tone and level of tension. The characters are super-likable and distinct, and I really bought into the main trio’s sense of brotherhood. The dialogue is also super witty; I love this game’s writing style and sense of humor.

The gameplay’s mixture of platforming and stealth is brilliant. To play optimally, you need to master the game’s controls, mechanics, and level design. The platforming itself isn’t super complicated, but it absolutely made me feel like a thief in the night, where one wrong move would spell disaster. The level design is solid throughout, and there are a ton of optional items and mechanics to use.

Funnily enough, I actually didn’t like Sly 2 all that much the first time I played it. I never even finished it until this most recent playthrough. Some of my original issues with the game are still present to a degree, but thankfully these flaws weren’t near as bad as I remember. Pretty much all of my issues are minor. If you wanna know my complaints though, here you go:
- The game could have used some more variety in the missions. There are a lot of “collect these things,” “pickpocket these keys,” and “take these photos” missions throughout the game. The different levels make things unique each time, but I did sometimes wish that more interesting mission ideas were developed more.
- Things are kinda janky sometimes. The circle button is supposed to do all your thief moves, but sometimes it just doesn’t work right. It might be a skill issue, but the imperfections in the controls annoyed me occasionally. They didn’t happen often enough to ruin any mission, though.
- The format of most levels is pretty similar. You’ll usually take recon photos first and then go through phases of a heist before taking down the bad guy in the end. It’s a formula that works, but the game only really breaks it once or twice. Some more variety might have been nice.
- Bentley and Murray are just not as fun to play as Sly. To clarify, they ARE fun to play as, but their lack of agility and simple mechanics don’t make them near as useful as Sly for exploration and looting. I think they could have used a little more time in the oven to make them more fun to play with beyond their exclusive missions.
- The final boss and main villain are kinda lame. The ending bits of story and cutscenes are great, but the actual encounter with the main villain is pretty anticlimactic.

Other than those things, I can’t really complain about Sly 2 that much. It’s a unique, well-executed 3D platformer that absolutely deserves a re-release. If that doesn’t happen, though, the original version will do you just fine. Play Sly 2. It’s a bonafide PS2 banger.

Besides some annoying missions that felt more like chores, amazing game with lots of charm, wit, and charisma

Excellent sequel, kind of hilarious how bad the comic book art style looks compared to Persona 5 though. In this game's defense, it came out 15 years before Persona 5 and what it does well it does REALLY well.

Is this the best game of all time? Probably not. Does it fill me with overwhelming joy and nostalgia every time I play it? Definitely. One of the best sequels of all time, with memorable worlds, amazing character development, and a banger soundtrack. It can be a bit repetitive and a tad derivative, but I play this every single year and will probably never stop.

This has to be one of the best sequels to any game I have ever played. This to me is the best Sly Cooper game. It has very good character development. The voice acting is a lot better. Gameplay is such an amazing improvement. I love how the areas in the game change into being open world. The open world areas in each episode are very amazing. Neyla is a very well written villain. She's the best villain of the series. The way she betrays the Cooper gang, Interpol, AND the Klaww Gang was honestly impressive and such a great twist. I love the different styles of gameplay and jobs that Sly, Murray, and Bentley have. Like with Sly you can steal, do cooper style moves, sneak very good. Bentley can use bombs, sleep darts, and can hack. Murray can pick up stuff and throw it, and help lift things up. The game did a good job making them show their abilities.

The tank missions in the game have very bad controls. Neyla becoming Clock-La is just very dumb. I just don't think it was the best choice for her character. And I wish we would've had an actual boss fight for her. I also wish Arpeggio had more to show since he is the brains behind the Klaww gang.

Overall, one of the best sequels I have played. I highly recommend this game.

Grew up with this game and loved it to pieces. I remember getting softlocked on the ice level and feeling devastated, but then I looked up and found another glitch to get me un-softlocked!

Unlike the level-based gameplay of Sly 1, this transforms the series into a mission-based structure and leans in real heavily to the 'thievery' motif, which I love. Oddly enough, even though I think this game is better than Sly 3, I find myself going back to it less often. The story doesn't take itself too seriously, which fits the tone established in the first game, and the different regions in each chapter are fun to explore in between missions. All in all, this improves immensely over Sly 1 and turned a decent platformer into a really good series.

My experience with this game shaped my taste as someone who enjoys the medium of video games and by all accounts you can disqualify my review due to my bias.

This game is THE 3D platformer. Similarly to its predecessor, it mixes engaging gameplay with a story that doesn’t feel phoned in. Despite losing some of the difficulty in combat with the inclusion of a health bar and more tools with which to defend themselves, players are now expected to approach challenges through stealth, adding another more fleshed out layer to the difficulty.
Additionally, you may now play as Bentley and Murray, each of which altering how one might approach gameplay, while still feeling similar enough to sly for the player to grasp how to play easily.
Missions are longer, yet more streamlined in that they feel more varied, entertaining, and they all seem to add something to the preparation to the upcoming operation. Instead of collecting your 17th treasure key, you’ll be replacing a painting in the enemy’s office with a bug so that the gang can plan around what they hear during surveillance.
Sly 2 ditches Sly 1’s more “gamey” elements for a higher quality all around experience which has yet to be outdone by any other platformer I have played to date.

It's wild to see how much more is going on in this game over SC1.

the first one as a kid was fun. During the age of "gta-fiying" your games (see jak n daxter), this game was also affected. Regardless instead of loosing some part of your identity, I feel sly improved and strengthen its core. Now you can control all three of the gang and the occasional talk/cutscenes during the mission just makes it more immersive. You basically can feel their friendship. The dialogues, the dynamics between the characters and even the details like "small presentations before the big heist and giving the operation a name" are something that gives the game the soul, even their newest games don't have. In my eyes this interaction in between the characters is something, where today only naughty dog reaches the same level.
The story arcs itself contain some interesting twists and still offer a interesting plot. Overall this game is one of my all favourites.

In love with the visuals, voice acting and just overall spy heist comic book cartoon feeling this game goes for. Every single character is so dynamic and funny and alive - watching the main cast riff off each other and react to each situation is just a joy to watch. The visuals also just feel timeless by going for the style they do, and by fully commiting to it in every aspect they absolutely pull it off.

I think I just don't like stealthing that much in games, and that leads to a lot of my gripes with it. So much of Sly 2's level traversal is in waiting for enemies to vacate the area while constantly pursuing verticality, and losing that means going through the same path to get that height advantage again.

When I think about how these characters move through the space in comparison to games like Banjo Kazooie or Mario 64, the platforming satisfaction leaves a lot to be desired. Sly 2's level design has so many ledges and gaps that feel like you should be able to get up or over, but can't unless you come at it from a different path. It boasts a lot of levels that beg to be jumped through freely and scaled quickly, but you're instead stuck going on very specific routes that don't let you do this nearly as much as you'd like.

Unfortunately this is also coupled with a pretty mediocre mission design that mostly revolves around 'going here, doing this' quests, where playing as one of the characters you have to trek around these levels hitting 5 switches, getting 9 panels, 3 batteries, etc. Again, when I think about the amount of freedom some of my favorite platformers give in an open level design with various objectives, it just feels a bit mindless and underwhelming here.

That being said I think a lot of the little mini games in-between these missions are really nice and offer some much needed variety. I never finished Sly 3 but from what I remember, I think I might enjoy it more as it delves further into that minigame mission territory.

Overall though, I still really enjoyed my time with this one! Even when I was trudging through the missions of the last few worlds, the cutscenes and characters were more than enough to keep me going until the end.

a massive improvement from the first game while adding a ton of new stuff and having a fun story to boot, was really fun to revisit this

Childhood Game Series, Still Holds Up To This Day

need to do longer reviwe for this one, best game ever

De trop bons souvenirs pour un jeu vraiment nice

Essentially a mini game collection connected by mediocre platforming through bland hub worlds. Some of the platforming is good! Some of the mini games are good! Most of both is bad to ok though, which doesn't make a good game! It also just goes on way too long for how little actual game there is; largely just padded by slowly walking around or having to Wait for Things and Bodies to Move. Combat bad but what else is new.
