This game is pretty underrated, it's short af, but that's not a problem to me, but i did wish it was longer though, you can basically 100% it in like 90 minutes. Pretty awesome soundtrack too
Easily one of the most over-hated Sonic games out there.
The music is amazing, the aesthetic is Perfect for the era, the levels are super fun and unique, the controls feel wonderful once you learn them.
Easily the worst thing about this game is how pittifully short it is which... when the main complaint you have with a game that there isn't more of it, that's definitely a good sign.

This game is so bad, but I like it at the same time.
I'm gonna say it. All Sonic games should just be racing games. Sega lost the moment they decided to make any non-racing Sonic games. Sure this game isn't amazing by any means but the idea of it is better than I think every other Sonic game I've been exposed to.
For what this game is it's pretty fun and is something I enjoy replying whenever I am bored. I've got nothing else to say about it really
I used to think this was the worst racing game ever made, but after finishing it 100%, it's more so an ice skating competition with Sonic characters and a fucking BANGING soundtrack. Still not great, but I was wrong about it.

I recommend playing this like how BlazeHedgehog puts it. You need to know Travelers Tales was making this a standard car racing game. So to play it better you have to know that.

The controls are really bad, you constantly bump into walls all the time and you feel really slippery too, the stages are mediocre, they are ok but the controls make me not like them.
The OST is really good, I'm not gonna listen to them all the time but they're a bop.
They should come back to this type of racing game and use it for later games and have great controls.

This is definitely as bad as I was expecting it to be. It’s a Sonic racing game with bad controls, very little content, poor level design and an extremely awesome soundtrack.
A racing game where Sonic actually runs (instead of using a car) does make a lot of sense, but the movement in this just feels off, it’s unresponsive and sluggish. Simply coming in first is trivially easy, as you can jump past huge sections of track while the AI tries to run along it, sometimes getting stuck.
The main challenge comes from the collectibles. Hidden in each track are 5 coins and 1-2 chaos emeralds .To unlock the chaos emeralds, you’ll need to collect rings and open a “ring gate”, then collect the emerald and finish in first place (for levels that have two, you can do them individually). Collecting all coins and finishing in the top 3 will let you race a character to unlock them. There are a total of 5 levels, although the final one doesn’t have any coins or emeralds.
The characters are a bit odd. Even when this was made, there were a few additional characters they could have picked. We have the main characters: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy (who drives a really slow car) and Dr Robotnik. Metal Sonic makes sense, then it shoves in a creepy Tails doll, metal Knuckles and a random egg robot. You can also unlock Super Sonic to make the game even easier.
While Sonic R is an awful game, I think it’s worth just seeing it for yourself. There’s not much to see so you’ll get through the levels finally quickly.

Sonic R no es solo un juego de carreras más,tiene su escencia al poder recolectar monedas para desbloquear personajes,su música haciendo todo más vivo,los personajes en su mayoría ayudando a que el gameplay sea más variado por las habilidades de cada uno de estos (excepto tu Amy no sirves). Sonic R es un juego bonito que si,sus controles no son los mejores que digamos, pero en lo que ofrece yo pienso que esta muy bien.

Came for the Sonic racing game on the Sonic Gems Collection (Gamecube), stayed for the amazing soundtrack, DON'T LET ANYONE TELL YOU OTHERWISE!
Could've been good if it had more than five tracks, but I guess there's some value in a game being short and sweet.

Game is mid but its doing it on purpose for some reason.
Unironically just a pretty fun time to go through, if you just have a casual couple of hours to jam out to the soundtrack you'll have a great time.
