My favorite of the trilogy. Same as the first, awesome, but incredibly challenging

Probably the coolest of the three, but still needlessly difficult.

The true Dark Souls of Star Wars games!

There's so many wonderful ideas put into this that it's a shame you probably never got a chance to see it. If the developers threw a little less at you, the frames might have improved and you'd remember this as one of the best the Super Nintendo has to offer.

These "Super Star Wars" games were a test of willpower and perseverance, but damn was it enjoyable when I finally beat it. My favorite Star Wars movie was given justice in this great, but challenging game.

Even harder than the first one, but so much more rewarding when you unlock the next password screen.

Somehow even more frustrating then the original. Powerups for the blaster are a lot rarer, especially as Luke. I get that they want you to use the Lightsaber but it honestly kinda sucks. Some of the levels aren't completely linear and are easy to get lost in. Those Hoth Base levels were bad enough with just how long and overbearing they are, but now I gotta navigate a maze? Fuck that. I gave up during the giant Dagobah boss that takes a million hits before you start doing any actual damage to his health bar. Really wish I liked these more. Don't have high hopes but I'll probably still give Jedi a shot.

Actual hell to play

Beat this one on normal difficulty again, and oh my god it's so difficult. This is LEAGUES harder than the first Super Star Wars, an already difficult game.

This game isn't hard for the right reasons, it hard cause of jank and bullshit. You have to take a lot of leap of faiths, enemies throw stuff at you that is virtually impossible to avoid, the hitboxes on both platforms and enemies is super janky, the levels are just way too long, bosses have way too much health, and it feels like beating bosses is just strokes of luck, as sometimes you win the fight, and other times you lose the fight, despite doing the same thing on both attempts.

The Mode-7 Sections are probably the best parts of the game, specifically the Hoth battle, it's the most fun you will have playing this. Immediately after this section though, you get a 2D Hoth battle that really sucks.

The enemy spam and placement is seriously just a nightmare, it feels like the devs didn't playtest it at all. Even when you figure out how to progress and beat everything, it feels insanely tedious and annoying.

Same as first game, the graphics and audio are superb, but the actual game sucks. fucking 70% of the enemies and bosses in this game aren't even in the actual movie, it's stupid. There's a lot of filler levels and every level feels super long, this game feels way way longer than the first.

Luke having force abilities is cool though lol.

Despite improvements in mode-7 levels and in character abilities, the level design, enemies, and bosses make this game worse than the first one. It is flat out not fun to play. I will never replay this one lol.

(See all my Star Wars Rankings and reviews on my profile here, the list is titled "Star Wars Ranked.")

The three Super Star Wars games are genuinely really cool, they're very pretty and quite a joy to watch playthroughs of, as I did when I was younger. Figured today since I did Kendo Rage in an hour or two that I'd pick up one of these as well.

From what I learned here, PLAYING them is a bit of a fucking nightmare. I'm convinced this was one of the hardest beatable games released at the time. I'm not sure WHY it was made to be so relentless, but from what I've heard it seems to share this with the other two games. It doesn't get easier as it goes, it doesn't even get harder as it goes (save the final boss), it's just a constant barrage of utter agony.

So yeah, outright oppressive experience. You'd think I would hate it, but in all honesty it really isn't close to a bad game. The difficulty is the worst aspect, whereas everything else is actually pretty great. Except the flying segments, which have bad framerates and suck dick. I might try the other two if i can like,, muster the energy, even. Maybe some day.

My friend owned this and when I spent the night at his house I would play this when he fell asleep. It's a great game. Just like the game before it and the one after it.

Starting this immediately after the previous game as part of my 500 follower month, the difference is VERY stark. Though the gameplay is still similar and very fun, it is also extremely difficult! I showcase this a lot in my streams of this game, but not only do the bosses appear to have more health, but, the enemies too seem to have been boosted too.

It feels like someone suggested that the previous game was too easy and then the developer snapped and was like "Easy huh? Well try this on for size!" and made the game far more difficult.

It's still quite fun, however, the bosses are fairly frustrating with the worst being the one of Degoba that have body parts that need to be destroyed first before you can actually cause any damage to the health of the beast and cut it down. It was a real pain and took the largest part of several hours to actually defeat it!

The worst was the final boss, Darth Vader, who was able to throw items at you which can be used to recharge your force power, however, you'll need to be fast before you get struck by anything.

Not to mention, he can harm you by touching you and not the same to him. When he's low on health he comes at you and there's a endless supply of things flying out at you at the same time.

Once again, it doesn't mention the twist after the battle or that Luke loses his hand since it focuses on gameplay instead.

"Impressive"... [immediately dies]

Just as good as Super Star Wars but the frustration is at an all time high. Inflated health on bosses and poor level design. Still fun becuase its Super Star Wars but definitely has its flaws.

I was about 6-years-old when my mom discovered I hadn't seen any of the Star Wars movies, something that came as a surprise to her despite the fact that she really should've known. It wasn't like I lived with anyone else other than her. Very attentive, that woman. But once she realized this, she rushed out and borrowed all three movies from a friend so I could watch them over a weekend. I had just gotten to the fight between Darth Vader and Luke on Cloud City when she came into the room and casually asked "Did you get to the part where Darth Vader tells Luke he's his father?"

I hadn't. Before that, I didn't even know he was. The twist had been stolen from me in that moment, and I have to believe this was by design.

Anyway, The Empire Strikes back is the best film in the trilogy (I'd argue it's the one thing propping up the entire franchise by this point, but that's neither here nor there), and at least as far as the Super Star Wars trilogy of games goes, it miiiight be the best one too? It's a little hard to say. It's certainly better than the original Super Star Wars, but I think it's pretty debatable whether or not Super Return of the Jedi is the superior entry.

The usual bullshit is here. Enemies are absolutely relentless, and they will flood the screen just to get a taste of your blood. Levels are long and sometimes difficult to navigate, but you get some cool vehicle stages to break up the pace. Lot of good Mode 7 in the Super Star Wars trilogy. You're also able to play as multiple characters with each having their own style of play. There's a good amount of variety here that keeps the game from getting stale.

Really, the previous review for Super Star Wars largely applies, I just like Empire's setting and source material more, and I feel the level design is a bit better in this one, so it gets an extra half star. Anyway, what's up with Luke using Obi Wan's lightsaber on the cover? Uh, not canon!

must get fixed; got in salem with will

I remember loving this game when I played it on the SNES at my friends house then still liking it years later when i played it on the Wii virtual console.

It takes pretty much everything from SSW1 and makes it a lot better. The overall difficulty is a lot more forgiving and hits that right kind of frustrating that can make old-school games fun, hell they even made the mission with the superFX chip more playable, and that is an achievement even OG Star Fox can't say.
But once again the first level is the worse of the game and you'll have to slog through it until you get to the good bits.
