I started off loving this one, but there were a few major issues that impacted my playthrough:
1) The roguelike elements lacked enough depth to sustain the game through the last 25% or so.
2) I ran into a bug that prevented the completion of the game for me for several months until a patch came through
3) The ending sequence really felt like the devs ran out of ideas but wanted to make the game artificially longer. Plus, in the original design, there were no checkpoints for the whole end segment (I've heard this was patched later), leading to unnecessary tedium.

Overall, It's cute and I think now that it's patched up it may be worth playing, but my experience was negatively impacted by the bugs and poor gameplay choices and can't personally recommend it.

some of yall are smoking MADDDDDDD penis on this site saying this is worse than tax evasion
i talked to someone that thinks this sucks because it's babys first roguelite
okay but tax evasion was babys first zeldalike
so like
what

u dont play turnip boy for ball busting, teeth gnashing gameplay
u play it for the whimsy

turnip boy robs a bank is a pretty easy game though
and to really get some of the moment to moment humor and narrative of this one you kinda do Heavily benefit from having played the first game in its entirety(like me)
This IS a sequel after all!
BUT i can respect the isolated silliness of the 1st one being more charming for its premise and with how that game has a LOT of casual lore
Like its kindof a background casual post apocalyptic adventure but in an adventure time way where everybody's got a job they dont gaf about none of that

But all things considered, i think i got beat to shit by the 3rd boss fight once, the 4th boss fight once and the final boss once before too

Im stressing these things like difficulty because ultimately i dont think they even fucking matter for turnipboy robs a bank LMFAO LIKE, I KNOW THAT SOUNDS S T U P I D FOR A ROGUELITE GAME
but the bulk of this and its predecessor is you doing quests, and collecting new weapons that can be kinda fun to use :) with some trendy humor
some of you, may cringe into a blackhole from jokes about nfts, exposure, rtx geforce and the dark web
and thats Okay
I think its fun though and there's a couple bits in the game that im not gonna list because theyre pretty fun to experience

The doug dimmadome hat is the best hat in the game, and I loved the diff environments and shit, the new characters are fun and I think my biggest gripe is that there's' like four varying quality types of rooms you can go into the bronze, the silver, the gold and the rainbow ones

and Also six different types of rooms that can go to specialty locations

the problem with this is that even though this is a small game, some quests you can only do if you have access to certain floors!! and you cant just REROLL these mid-heist
so you kinda just gotta deal with it.

all in all i enjoyed this a lot and i can def acknowledge the faults with it but i think its inherently more interesting than the first game ever was and im really curious what this team is gonna do with turnip boy in the next game
maybe he'll be in a 3d platformer????
maybe itll be a strategy rpg????
maybe itll be a beat em' up???
idk!
i just know i love the little asshole

final thoughts: i got jumpscared n lost $1,000,000 dollars in hard cash, aliens shoot transgender lasers and t4t fruits are real
its impossible to be a bad video game with all these qualities

also why does this shit say xbox one for the platform when its on series x.. cause thts what i played it as.. i could probably tweak it myself... but like. i dont get how to do shit with the website for adding games to this fucking site

Es bastante entretenido, bastante viciante también pero el tema es que en cierto punto con algunas tareas se me hizo poco intuitivo y tuve que buscar por donde tenia que ir o que hacer

I don't think this game works as well as its predecessor. There is a silly relief at the core of Tax Evasion (I like this sentence), but I struggle to find the same alignment with my actions here. Without something suitably compelling, I think this makes a lot of the humor fall flat.

I also don't think that this is a very good roguelite? There's just so little randomization on display here, and I don't think that randomization is interesting enough on its own to encourage replay, which is a pretty big part of the genre!

It's still fun, and I'm still excited for the next Turnip Boy adventure, but this doesn't necessarily "work" like its predecessor.

I hate rougelites, and yet this is way better than the first game. The music is fun, the combat isn't braindead like it's predecessor, and it's very clear that the developers are getting much more experienced at this.

The progression is well paced, and there is a solid enemy variety + weapon variety. The bosses are good fun as well. Side quests were decent, but I'd like a better reward than just a hat.

The writing still isn't quite as good as it could be, although it still managed to get a couple of laughs out of me. Also, the pacing kinda falls apart at the end, as you get so much money from very specific items (and not much else).

Overall, I'm actually somewhat excited about what the Turnip Boy devs do next. I couldn't say that about the first game.

I think the humor leans a bit too heavily on relying on you playing Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion for it to work. games fun but a bit too shallow for me to consider a rouge lite unless you are playing on the hardest available difficulty.

I don't know how much of an improvement this one is over its predecessor, but it is still a fun time. The combat is notably improved, and it feels much more fluid and bouncy to play, but it also feels too easy sometimes. I really didn't struggle outside of one or two instances.

I'm also not sure the timer and rouge like style adds anything of meaning or fun to the game. While it makes every run be (kind of) intense, so much of the game is predicated on exploring and quest lines, that I felt like I couldn't get a great grasp on it all because I was so focused on getting out on time.

I also think that the game ends up being fairly poorly paced within the latter half, as certain items or two will be worth enough to basically pay for any upgrades or new items instantaneously, instead of having to build up money through multiple solid runs.

However, despite these more poignant critiques, there is a lot the game does right. It has a memorable and fun art style, and still is one of the funnier games I have played. The quests are mostly fun, and I love a lot of the animations piled into the player character. I do miss the more "town" aspect to the first game, but it still does a good job at making fun environments for the characters to live in.

Overall, Turnip Boy Robs a Bank didn't blow me away, but for a game I picked up solely on its absurd title, it does a pretty good job.

A solid game that, at the time of playing, held back by some weird bugs. The final boss rush is crazy though and I just can't see how it can't be done without extreme patience. I ended up turning on some of the easier settings to get through it.

One of the best games I have ever played, you can really feel the love of the devs emanating from this series, like some greenish radioactive hue
Also Hatsune Miku told me to kill the bad guys and get the bag, what more could I ask for in this life

Turns out the most stressful part about robbing a bank is looking for the right elevator,. Who'd have thunk it??

Man I just cannot get enough of this series, the humour is fun and it has that perfect blend of silly and cool.

The gameplay spin here was super fun, changing it from an action adventure to a roguelite is interesting and makes good use of whats been previously built on with the last game.

I cant recommend this game and series enough and I cannot wait for more from this team.

Short and fun rogue-like. Did not play the first game and did not expect there to be so much "lore" continuation from the turnip's first adventure, but still found the cast and world very charming nonetheless (ᵔ◡ᵔ)

Simple, short, and sweet.
3/5

I adored this videogame. It nails its own flavor of contemporary (read: absurdist) humor. It revels in the cartoonish violence it subjects its ridiculous characters to. Basically nothing else, like the questionable progression system or shallow gunplay, mattered to me. I loved being sucked into this colorful little world for a while, a world where a turnip can kill a god and rob a bank.

still fun game, but worse than 1st game. a few grindy sidequests

Fun game that you can beat in a couple of hours. Lots of side quests to do.

Turnip boy tan basado como siempre

I think it’s safe to say that 2021’s “Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion” caught everyone by surprise by blending competent 2D Zelda-like gameplay with quirky, plant-based humor and a pleasant visual style. I enjoyed it quite a bit and was looking forward to its sequel. And I was caught by surprise yet again, because it turned out that the devs decided to switch the genre from an old-school adventure game to a roguelite mixed with bullet hell. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work as well as the original.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a fan of roguelites, and this is no exception. Running over and over through the same couple of areas and mowing down the same enemies gets old really quick for me, and Turnip Boy doesn’t provide enough scope or variety to make traversing through the map a truly enjoyable experience. Most of my time playing the game was searching for NPCs that I had an outstanding quest with - there are a lot of characters you can help throughout the 5 hours or so that it takes to finish the story. Honestly, I mostly walked aimlessly searching for an NPC whose location I had completely forgotten (the map is utterly useless) or simply because I had confused one NPC with another. This can be frustrating not only because there is no good way to memorize this (and some NPCs only show up in rooms that spawn at random, so you can be looking for a guy and never stumble upon him simply because his room didn’t spawn for this particular run), but also because you’re always under a time constraint. At one point I found myself with a long list of NPCs to interact with, a map that doesn’t help at all in finding them and a thought “yeah, I don’t remember where any of those characters are”.

Perhaps this problem is exacerbated by the writing. The trademark quirkiness is still there and some NPCs’ lines should make you smile, but either the novelty factor has worn off or the writing simply isn’t as sharp because I found the NPCs in “Tax Evasion” funnier, more memorable and their plotlines easier to follow than the ones in “Robs a Bank”.

Overall, I enjoyed the gunplay - I think there is a good selection of weapons available (a lot of them, obviously, are very comedic in nature) and they’re fun to use, but the fact that you can’t really store them conveniently (there’s one particular room where you can keep them for your next run, but it’s an extremely tedious mechanic) and that the only weapons that you have permanent access to in your hub are the most standard shotgun/rifle/bazooka spoils the fun of trying out new weapons.

Two other issues I’d like to mention are underwhelming boss fights (they’re all very similar and at the very end you have to repeat them all in one go, which is a chore) and the fact that about halfway through the game you find a way to earn tons of cash quickly and run out of things you can spend them on. I think the upgrade system could’ve been expanded to account for that.

First game was more prefeble for me because of gameplay design choices. Rogue lite isn't for me, sorry graffiti games.

Better gameplay than the first one and just as funny. A good time all around. Final boss is garbage tho.

Them going for the roguelike route this time around was really nice. I enjoyed this a lot. Enjoyed the ending a lot and was surprised this game would get me to care about some vegetables and fruits. Maybe its because I was voice actin' em to myself. But this game has great charm. Very enjoyable experience.

Also the music was kinda crazy, wasn't expecting some tracks.

(100%ed) Turnip Boy returns with a Rogue”extra-lite” experience. All of the charm of the original, and the Roguelike switch up was less jarring than I thought. Most unexpected moment of 2024 so far has been almost crying at the ending of this game. Play these games, they’re great!!

Note to self: Never give a vegetable a freaking gun

Not my typical kind of game, but it had the same theme and great jams as the first one. Took me two evenings to complete.

I think the fact that they completely changed the genre of the game was very interesting. If they make more of these I think it would be fun for the franchise to switch genre's with every game. These games aren't meant to be top tier, but they're funny, and fun to play for as short as they are.
