I feel like anything I say about any Guitar Hero game can literally be said about any other game in the franchise, if you like the idea of a goofy party game where you hold a chunk of plastic shaped like a guitar for ants and pretend you're a rock star with your buddies, then you'll like any Guitar Hero game, and if you don't like that idea you sound kinda lame in all honesty.
Second playthrough review:
Man this is probably just my favorite GH and probably rhythm game in general. The songs, the characters, the venues. They all create an amazing feeling for me. I don't feel this happy playing most games, this is special to me.
First playthrough review:
Amazing setlist, game feels great to play.
Standout songs are -
Brianstorm - Arctic Monkeys (not biased)
Incinerate - Sonic Youth
L.A. - Elliot Smith

A rhythm game that was so shitty, Courtney Love sued Activision over it. No wait, it's because they let the Kurt Cobain model be utilized for any song, not just the Nirvana tracks.
I'm not going to give Guitar Hero 5 points for "playing just fine" since it changed literally none of its format from 4. That work was already done for them. The visual aspect is so lacking and oddly dark, and all the guest appearances feel pathetically hollow, more so than in the previous game.

It's a game. It's guitar hero. If you like guitar hero, you are gonna like this. The setlist is relatively diverse, albiet maybe a bit more leaning towards pop music over metal and rock. I heard beforehand that this game was the straw that apparently broke the camels back and made guitar hero more leaning to casuals, and I can kind of see that but also not really? Most of the setlist was very easy but the last few songs are still good fun. This game also has a completely revamped graphics engine which looks very good in action, so that's neat. There are also bonus challenges for certain songs that are actually really difficult, so GH maniacs still have fun things to do I feel. Overall, it's more guitar hero. You can't go wrong with guitar hero, though I can see why constant releases of just more guitar hero would definitely fatigue the audience into the franchises decline.
