Great third person shooter with some very minor survival horror elements. The escort AI never gets annoying and the game continually ramps up enemy encounters throughout. Quick Time Events are way too hard at 60fps, and it controls like crap on mouse and keyboard. Deserves its legacy.

NOTE:- This is not an objective review but a personal thoughts on how I felt about Resident Evil 4.

This game slapped. The movement might feel clunky in today's standard, and takes some getting used to, but the gameplay is still on-point.

I haven't seen any game yet that has so much variety in combat. Not only does the enemies type change, the game is able to craft unique scenarios even with the same enemy type which always keep things fresh. You cannot just blindly pump bullets into them but rather they all have patterns to defeat them.

The gunplay is tense. It is weird that you cannot run while shooting (like modern RE games) I do feel this design choice was intentional and helped adding tension. The level design is great, and each stage felt unique from what I remember. There was always some time, I would get cornered by enemies always making me strategize where to place myself and fight.

There are also some puzzles that are present in it to allows for some change from gunning and shooting but easy enough not to bug down the swift pacing of the game. Ammo is more plentiful this time around, but I always found myself running into situations where I needed to carefully conserve them, and make strategic choices as my inventory is also limited.

I love the locations and atmosphere. The ambience is not as dreadful as RE2 Remake, but the idea you are stranded in a foreign and isolated village being hunted by mutated cultists seems creepy and it appeals to me a lot. The locations do change, and I didn't have a problem with either though village is my favorite. And the ambience and weather does a whole lot to set the mood. Not to mention the soundtrack which knows when to notch things up, and calm things down. "Serenity" is such a fantastic track, it's calming but also retain an ominous feel to it, giving a very indescribable feeling. I was always wishing that I could just get into a new save room just decompress myself and stay there permanently.

The visuals aren't top-notch. The environments might show it's age right now, but I do feel the character models look crisp and has detail. Especially Leon who still looks superb IMO to this date. I wasn't on-board with him initially character-wise, as I personally think he doesn't have a very strong screen-presence as a total bad-ass, but him constantly flexing his new skills were always awesome and his one-liners were hilarious at time. Some of them caught me off-guard and made me laugh. His dynamic with Ada and his flirtatious attitude towards Hunnigan were endearing. He is just really likable and always know to make tense situations feel lighter. Oh yes, the Merchant too. Has so little screen-presence, and depth but his design, and manner of speech has made him so memorable.

Back to the graphics, another thing caught me by surprise is that how well some of the spectacle holds up today. Especially the knife duel with Krauser was beautifully directed and is one of my favorite cutscenes in video gaming. It knows how to restrain the spectacle, never going into the more over-the-top bombastic direction but still keeping it tight and thrilling which makes it more suited to the tone and atmosphere of the game.

It might feel like I am just endlessly mentioning positives of the game, but this game is truly remarkable at what it wants to do but I want to address some things I didn't love. One will be the game's over-reliance on quick-time events. It did work really well at some sequences, for example the knife duel with Krauser and the sewer fight. But they pop-up so suddenly at times, it catches me off-guard. And you need to response really fast, otherwise you will die. I think I died here more time than I did in combat. I do like how they switch the keys for the quick-time events which I haven't seen other games do yet. I think the devs should have given more time for player to respond or just decrease them by some margin. Another would be the story. This is probably my second venture into horror gaming, so I am not much familiar with the indirect storytelling through notes. I don't think I went through all of them so the narrative did feel simple and RE is not known for it for impeccable storytelling, but would have liked if there was some more meat to it.Some of the latter acts rely on Ashley getting kidnapped over and over again and it might feel repeatitive. The antagonist felt lacking and certain dialogues didn't feel convicing. But I personally feel more neutral than negative about it. The game does feel a overly-long by the end, especially the castle which is a bit too long, but it's a small drop in quality IMO. Though I would say most of the flaws are strongly outclassed by it's strength.

Overall, I thought this game was a blast to go through and became a strong favorite of mine. I wasn't keen on playing it at first as the initial gameplay footage didn't hook me at all. But it did exceed basically all of my expectations. I can see why people hold it in such high regard and is considered a landmark in video gaming industry.

I would kill someone over this game it's fucking unreal

This was my first Resident Evil game, and I think I went with the right one, although the movement is confusing and kinda clunky you'll get used to it, and at least the game is balanced around the clunky controls.

My only big complain is that I think this game is longer than it needed to be, it's one of those games that I said "alright I've seen what I had to see let's wrap it up". but iff you've never played an RE game this is a solid entry to start with.

However, find a different version of the game if you can, the PC version is outdated and you'll probably have to do some tweaking so that the game is actually playable. So unless you have the patience for all that mess you're probably better off with another version of the game.

The game that changed the direction of Resident Evill till Resident Evil 7. Really good gameplay, long and a lot of different scenaries.

I tried to write a review on this game twice, but only now am I gonna do it for real. Here we go. Played with the HD textures mod, by the way, and that was my main motivator to finally play this masterpiece.

Resident Evil 4 is an interesting game in the series, daring to stray away from usual traditions of the series like going for a more action based approach and toning down the horror elements. Usually, drastic changes like this would be met with scorn with longtime series fans, but the thing with RE4 is that it defies usual series hallmarks while also respecting them, and that's why I find it to be a great damn game, even just playing it for the first time. While I do have a few minor annoyances, most of them are just due to age, some are due to design (the Krauser fight was particularly annoying, mostly because I only had JUST ENOUGH ammo to get through), this is still a very worthy action game in this day and age, and one that must be experienced. I have no idea why they want to remake this game.

Probably the funniest game ever made. Kinda weird to say that about a horror game, but Resident Evil 4 knows exactly what kind of horror it is: deliciously campy horror, of course.

It still has a couple of scares here and there, but Resi 4 is all about giving the player one hell of a time, with an almost perfectly paced campaign that sadly loses some steam by the end.
It also just happens to have one of the most impressive HD mods ever made, which only makes the experience even better.

A classic, and my favorite in the series.

The core game is still a classic, just pure unsentimental fun the entire way through, but I wanted to add that I used the RE4HD mod and it was transformative, it looks how you remember it looking in your head.

Aged like wine, the gameplay and shooting are still satisfying not to mention the upgrade system and overall presentation.

There are some issues related to the gameplay like moving Leon can be a bit clumbersome, looking out for Ashley and not being able to move while aiming or reload at free will.

The narrative and characters stand out a lot in part thanks to the voice acting.

The PC port in the other hand is abysmal, frame-rate issues, lame textures and missing effects from the original version. Thankfully the fan-remaster called HD Project is a masterpiece and completely does justice to the game, RE4 Tweaks is also a must if you want to restore some features to the game and increase the Camera FOV.

Went back and revisited this one on my third console over 16 years (first GameCube, then briefly on Wii, now Xbox One). I was surprised at how the back half of the game I had largely forgotten, even though I thought I had played through this one more than once. Things managed to spook me more than I gave it credit for, too, both as a result of my forgetting a lot of it and also it just being scarier than I remembered.

This game still rocks. The presentation on Xbox One is pretty nice considering it began life as a GameCube title. Good story, fun combat, memorable boss fights, great atmosphere, nifty gun upgrades, and so much more. One of the best packages in gaming. The characters and writing are a little north of cheesy, but in a good way instead of a bad way. Very glad I paid this one another visit.

man with parkinsons sent on top sekrit mission to save girl from population that only knows the words "cabron" and "mierda"

Resident Evil 4 is a masterpiece and one that I could not recommend enough. There is no other game I have played through more. It's a game with no flaws in my book. My favorite part, however, is the characters. The whole gang is great, but none more so than Leon Scott Kennedy. The one-liners are just superb. Unreservedly recommend this one.

Yeah, this lives up to the hype it always gets. The last act on the Island does kind of begin to fall a little downhill compared to the rest of the game, even if I still do find it fun regardless.

O melhor Resident Evil já feito.

La perfecta fusión de acción y tensión en un shooter muy influyente.
PD: Krausser tiene problema en la espinilla

RE4 is not perfect, despite what you might think after talking to it's fans or your initial impressions after beating it. If nothing else, after this latest playthrough I am more open to the idea of a remake of this game than ever before, as there are millions of small things, and a couple of big ones, that can be fixed or changed with RE4. I especially kinda hated the bosses, most are really annoying and give you all the reasons in the world to just skip them via a Rocket Launcher on your reruns. But aside from that - this game is almost flawless, and is one of the most fun action games I'll ever play in my life. It's enemies are so memorable, it's levels are fun to run through, it's progressions system is super addictive, and it's story is absolute trash that I love.

Mais um mitada do Mikami.

A classic, and for good reason. Despite the dated graphics the gameplay is fun, and there are lots of ways to play this game due to the upgrade system, and the story is pretty good, somewhat of a joke.
A lot of the dialogue is jokes and one liners as well, shouldn't put you off if you haven't played it, makes the game better.
Also this game is getting a remake soon, hopefully its the same level of quality.

u know neo likes a game if he manages to beat it in just over a week and chips away at it every day

no thanks...bro!

Esse jogo tem o Ganado com cara de Lula, logo, ele é o melhor jogo já feito.

Absolute masterpice of gaming history, one of my favorite games of all time.
Unfortunately, this HD port runs terribly on mid-end computers, but it's playable regardless.
