The combat is awkward and some of the puzzles are really fucking obtuse, but the attention to art design and environmental storytelling is above and beyond. There’s a good reason why you’ve felt bits of this game in so many others over the years.

Altas aventuras de um moleque corno e sua namoradinha autista, autistando por aí...

Se não fosse o combate terrível a nota seria maior, é um sólido 7/10.

I respect this game, but honestly, I had to drag myself through it. The escorting and fighting enemies became tedious. However, I do find the vibes of the game awesome, and I really like its concept.

It’s true that Ico may not be the perfect game, I think the puzzle design is frankly infuriating at points (although the puzzles and mechanics are overall intuitive). Yet, I think it does reach a level of sublimity not a lot of games are able to reach due to how everything is stripped back to the point that it is all gestures that transcends spoken word. To me, that’s beautiful.

I get why this game is so influential and revolutionary. Because of this game we have people like Hidetaka Miyazaki creating games. Not only that we can also see a lot of it's DNA in modern games. From the level design, art design, minimal storytelling and dialogue, ambience and environment, the companionship mechanic.

This game inspired two of my favorites which is Dark Souls and The Last of Us. Dark Souls and The Last of Us is quite different from each other but the DNA of Ico is on both of them. I also LOVE that this game doesn't handhold the player. Most old games handhold the player too much on what button to press or what to do. Ico eventhough it's a linear game, it lets you experiment. I like but also dislike the camera system, I like it because it gives you a breathtaking view on the world outside the castle and the castle pretty well but the problem with the camera system when you are doing the puzzle where it's pretty easy to miss key items because of the camera and sometimes hard to move the character. The puzzle in this game is also really fun but not that hard which i like, it's on a perfect difficulty for puzzles. The storytelling is minimal but it makes you care about the character and i think we care about the character more because there is physical touch between the characters and i think that really helps.

In conclusion, this is a really good game and i see why it inspired a lot of gamemakers out there. I also hope there will be a remake one day, because this game with new gen graphics will go HARD.

I absolutely respect Ico for the influence it had on artistic adventure and exploration games along with Shadow of the Colossus. I really wanted to like it, as Shadow of the Colossus is one of my favorite games ever.

Unfortunately I hated Ico.

The loose controls, weird camera, and blurry, eye-straining graphics with way too much bloom gave me an actual headache. I just could not continue playing when the game had made me physically unwell in the first half hour.

Whatever your opinion is on Penny Arcade (and whatever it is it’s completely valid), I have to say they did a far better job describing what playing Ico is like better than I ever could

After playing Last Guardian, I was told I should go back and play Shadow of the Colossus. While researching it, I found lots of people talking about how Ico was made by the same team as both those games and serves as the original of this genre.

I guess I just love this genre! It's been a meme for decades now about escort missions being the bane of video games, but Ico sets a standard far above any on how you do it right, and make it the entire game.

There's not much I can say about the game without giving too much away but the vibes are absolutely immaculate, the game is fairly short and sweet, the puzzles aren't too difficult, and the sound design is truly something else

Interesting game with a really nice concept although it's lacking in some things

This game is fascinating, it is not like anything else I have ever played.

It has an incredible atmosphere. It's eerie, mysterious, and gorgeous all at the same time! The castle feels like a character in itself and I love how I can occasionally look around and see places that I have already been or will go.

The animation in this game is incredibly impressive for its time! The physics of the link between Ico and Yorda are the first use of inverse kinematics that I am aware of in video games and adds a lot of charm to the experience of exploring the castle together with her.

However, I feel like basic human empathy is what carries my feelings towards Yorda. I unfortunately did not feel a great emotional attachment due to her lack of characterization. I don't need her to speak with Ico in deep conversations like the modern God of War games, but her interacting with the world and Ico instead of standing there like a doll would help me feel more attached to this character and be more invested in the story overall. She does have some small moments but I would have appreciated some more spice.

It is sometimes hard to understand what this game is going for with its story because it's so abstract, but that is what makes it fascinating. It is a great example of how games can be used as an art form, but it has aged significantly in the decades since its release and makes it somewhat hard to go back to in the modern day of games.

I think it mainly falters in its moment-to-moment gameplay. Some of the puzzles are frustrating with how the game communicates its mechanics, but it honestly makes me really appreciate how much Ueda respects his audience to figure shit out.

The combat, however, is just straight-up bad. The enemies all look the same, are complete health sponges, and aren't interesting. I am never looking forward to the next encounter, and that might be by design but I can't ignore it as an aspect I dislike about this game.

I also can not excuse the camera. The camera is great whenever you are not touching it and it frames what you should be looking at for the most part. But as soon as you touch the right stick it is an incredibly unruly mess that genuinely makes me feel sick from time to time. I just want to look around and enjoy the atmosphere of this decrepit castle but the camera actively makes me avoid doing so

Besides the complaints above, I am very glad I gave this game a shot. Ico makes me excited to play Shadow of the Colossus and see how Ueda improves from here on out.
