Swag

Deceptive marketing causes me to be bitter about the story even now. The open worlds themselves are kinda barren, but outside of that it is probably the best stealth/third person shooter I have ever played.

que coño es esto kojima

IN PROGRESS:
I’m not really equipped to comment on the story of MGSV, as this is my first MGS game.
But I think the divisiveness of the story just comes from people not getting what they wanted, closure, a boss battle with Solid Snake, and I think that’s pretty fitting because it makes us feel like Venom Snake, he doesn’t get what he wants either.

There’s a real mystique to this game and so much open for interpretation.

This game makes me very excited to go back and enjoy the series. I love the juxtaposition of realistic, serious military gameplay with campy, silly, over-the-top, fantasy elements. It also has shocking horror moments.

Gameplay-wise: It is fantastic. Venom’s movements are hyper-polished, disciplined and solely player-influenced. Without our input, he sits depressed on the helicopter’s edge completely still, he lies prone in the field completely motionless. It all really sells him as a super-soldier.

The war-torn environment is immersive and looks great for 2015 (even somewhat 2024) standards. Vehicles feel like they have weight to them, and weapons are appropriately powered.
The semi-open world adds so much freedom to how you can approach an enemy stronghold or outpost. I really enjoy scoping the area and taking my time quietly, but also often end up shooting my way through.
Your arsenal is very expansive.

The idroid base management systems, and levelling up your gear, are all addictive. Coinciding with that is the goofy Fulton system, which has me capturing knocked out enemies like Pokémon for Mother Base.
I don’t love the mobile-game-inspired real world time-locks on later gear upgrades, but I suppose they do keep you from unlocking everything without a second thought.

While I didn’t think they were ideal, once you’re feeling invested, the cassette tapes provide much-needed dialogue and exposition during otherwise silent missions.
They also make you feel like a militia leader sorting through important files. And jumping around between them reflects Venom’s fractured and unreliable memory.

I just think this is a fantastically polished game. I suppose that one gripe with it is that while the gameplay loop was impeccable, the mission objectives got stale eventually. Boss, today you’re going to this country to capture / kill this general. Repeat. You and your allies at Mother Base are kind of just working, accepting contracts and committing sanctioned war crimes for a lot of the game.

Despite that, the game is simply a masterclass of the stealth and action genres, and I can’t wait to dive into the series.

j'étais trop petit j'ai jamais rien compris

not bad not good, this game had the potential to be the best metal gear game. the gameplay is top tier so ill give it a higher rating but the story? the mission based system? i dont like any of that. gimme back the good old metal gear

the best playing Metal Gear game by far, the controls and animations are incredibly smooth and satisfying, every action that Snake can pull off is impactful and easy to do no matter how complicated it might sound, the amount of gadgets to use and the overall sandbox is also pretty fantastic, the Fulton System is an great idea, I love that the AI is also adaptative to your actions, changing their tactics on each encounter. the gun combat is also very flexible and exciting now, no longer I had the urge to restart an encounter after being detected like in the previous games.

the presentation is still excellent, great visuals for an 2015 game, sure things like textures and the overall geometry of the enviroment might not be that impressive anymore but the character models and optimization is definitely wizardry.

unfortunely the rest is marred down by game design issues and overall lack of direction likely because of time constraints, I don't think going open-world was the right move for the fifth Metal Gear game, both Afghanisthan and Africa are incredibly empty and just lack any personality to make these maps stand out, every mission in this game is also the same beginning to end, either go to an location to rescue an target, destroy vehicles or elimination missions.

the Mother Base hub is also pretty undercooked, there is basically no reason to ever go back to it, you can manage everything directly through the iDroid just fine and the only reward for getting back are random cutscenes that lasts 1 minute at best. the fact that they included timers akin to contemporary mobile games is incredibly annoying, I just love to wait for nearly an hour for every equipment or platform I choose to craft and for some reason this time doesn't pass if you turn off the game, grinding out soldiers or resources to make the best equipment during the mid to late game stages was also rough.

I don't think that the story is bad like many people point it out to be, I enjoy the characters and some of the moments are the strongest this series had seen but I can't deny that the story is non-existent for an good portion of the game, the fact that they hide important story details behind casette tapes is enfuriating, I missed the long cutscenes too, I know people tends to dislike them but I think they were an nice way to break up the pacing a bit with all that extra explanations and plot ploints. there are story arcs missing from the game, Chapter 2 is almost exclusively composed of repeated missions that you just got through but with extra modifiers, there is basically 2 missions in the entirely of that chapter that actually matter to the storyline and 1 mission that got removed before getting completed that would have solved an leftover story arc and offer a more satisfying ending.

overall this is still an good game, fantastic gameplay mechanics and there is fun to be had, excellent visuals and optimization. the characters are great and some of the moments are some of the best in the series even though the story is certainly incomplete. game design shortcomings in the form of the Mother Base, mission design and the overall open-world makes it difficult to go back and play this game again, it's an excellent stealth game even with these shortcomings and I think it's worth playing it if you enjoy this type of game.

The best stealth game I have ever played, one of the best controls I've felt in a game, this is the stealth game by excellence. As a Metal Gear though... not so good, it's obvious Kojima left midway through, and the game's story wasn't finished, but I would still say it's a really outstanding game.

Metal gear solid 5 is excellent in both story and gameplay if you ask me. In terms of the impression it left on me it's a lot like the last of us 2 in that it is a unique thing in the interactive space. It's a wonderful story about a transsexual man going insane and trying to find why English is baaaad

gameplay boa
mas só isso mesmo

Best gameplay in the series but the worst story, still good just not as good as the others.

Best tps of all time. While the story is a bit of a mess I still quite enjoy it and it's filled with wonderfully directed cutscenes and fantastic voice acting. Replay ability is through the roof. And of course Venom Snake is literally me.

As far as gameplay, one of my favorite games of all time. The story having been cut off and left unsatisfying is one of the greatest tragedies that video games as an art form has ever known.

not letting kojima cook is the most unforgivable sin of our lifetimes

one of the best stealth games ever made

i don't like kojima, and i don't like metal gear, so i love this game

One of the only games I'd be willing to give five stars to without being sure if I'll ever finish it. The game systems in this are soooo good, there are tons of approaches to anything and you can get quite creative. Kind of wish it had less Hideo-isms and had less weird shit going on, but the gameplay is just that good.

Quiet only exists for Kojima to overcompensate for all the homoeroticism in the past 4 games.

the best far cry like ever created

We'll make diamonds from their ashes. Take them into battle with us.

Welcome to MySpace again boys, all rebuilt. This? A sandytoybox to surpass FarCry2.... yep, I love being an idealized BIGBoss (THE ONE & ONLY!) going around doing good deeds, HoHoHo, I have a RedCamoWalker with a flamethrower!. yes, of course I upgraded the double-barrel right away, so much buckshotbukkake, painted em walls red, am creative soul unlike most "tranquilized folx", like say ones with phantom pains. doNot worry, will be taken care of. ^_^ puppy d-dog so unbelievably kawaii, was almost cryingtears whenever i saw him😿, especially when i saw a youtuber hurt him😿😿😿😿ALL funnyman youtubers Must be given the Kikongo Treatment, Keep Saying IT gameboys! I confess, Venom is QuiteLiterallyMe, never played MetalGears but heard & saw LEGENDS, some firsthand, been a good&caring Medic eager to save souls in manyBattlefieldS , what more needs to be said, my fellow kids...? My Words? nothing but pure&puerile gaiety, naturally "kills" them all so very easily. THANK YOU GEORGE LUCAS!!!

ps:my heli theme? Pick Your Poison Boys. yep, this gamer is "media literate"! the most dangerous kind, putting fear into oppressors in every respect with his "CAVEMAN ATTITUDE".
pps: MAJOR, I'M BURNING UP!!!!!!!!! so im going out
ppps:am not venomous...

Really fun game, but I just could stick with it.

The gameplay is so good it makes up for the miserable narrative

A pity for a Metal Gear game. It feels totally unfinished and empty.

One of the best put together gameplay experiences I've ever had in a game. The stealth mechanics are GREAT, and the sandbox that this game provides is fantastic. I also really love the story from a MGS lore and general idealistic perspective. There was so much promise in all the set ups and ideas, and it's such a shame that some things had to go unfinished and left out, like the Kingdom of the Flies mission.

The reveal at the end is also a contentious one, but one that I think perfectly demonstrates how Big Boss became the villain by the time Metal Gear 1 rolls in. The use of Venom as a pawn is cold-blooded, and shows just how dedicated to his cause he's become. To use other soldiers without discretion or care for their personal lives or choice is a disgusting tactic and shows how Big Boss fell right into what he sought to stop. (even if it was Zero's idea)

I also thought Quiet's story was really well done, especially near the end, I just wish her design wasn't so outrageous. (also, a Quiet Exit and it's difficulty spike, along with the inability to return to the ACC is genuinely nuts and brought this game down a star lmao)

I have a lot more I could say about this game, but I really loved it!
