thankfully the inclusion of mario characters does not ruin this rabbids game

A very surprising highlight of my year that only fell down in terms of its lack of invention.

The core gameplay is highly satisfying and tightly polished with each character offering genuine variety and balance to your arsenal.

You won’t find many better Switch games for a quick 10 minute gaming session.

Bizarre combination of franchises in a very competent cover-based tactical RPG.
+ well-designed combat system that appears simple but has a lot of depth (mostly due to freedom in movement)
+ small but amusing selection of units who each fill a unique role with flexibility through skills
+ appealing environmental design that seamlessly integrates battle arenas and features a lot of detailed backdrops
+ decent difficulty curve with only a couple potential roadblocks
+/- a lot of different puzzles to break up the strategy gameplay loop (most of which are unfortunately easier to brute-force than solve properly)
- pathetic options menu (e.g. no defaults for fast forward or easy mode)
- no map or zoom function for orientation purposes
- tiny active team of 3 with Mario as a mediocre forced unit

I went in expecting an alright game and came out a changed man.
This game is honestly really great. It's also actually hard, its been so long since I actually struggled in a Mario game. God, it's such a treat.
The story is cute, I like Beep-0. The focus on Bowser Jr is super appreciated, lil guy rocks. Shocked by how much I clicked with it.

Mario XCOM with lots of visuals gags, the charm of the mushroom kingdom and the absurdity of the rabbits. Lots of fun for a turn based strategy game. Extremely satisfying when you win some games with a plan that went through accordingly. There are even some creative puzzles between the fights but some of them can get repetitive and annoying. Doing the side content can get a bit tedious. But overall a really great game with a lot of potential to amazing. Looking forward to playing the sequel. Donkey Kong DLC is also great, especially if you have nostalgia for the DKC games.

i think i might be the only person on earth who genuinely loves the sight of rabbids

good game, better mario, why a rabbids game is this good?

Why this combo works, I can't say, but man, does it ever work. Tactical strategy games are a genre that typically aims away from the casual accessibility and appeal of Mario, but here, they combine to spectacular effect.

The gameplay, while lacking the depth of other similar titles like Fire Emblem or XCOM, nevertheless achieves the same type of high from strategizing and executing on that strategy, with several fun scenarios that test the player's knowledge of the systems at play. There is a depth here, I just wish the game would explore that depth further than it does.

There isn't much of a story here, but the characters, in their brief moments of interaction, are funny and solicit a chuckle at times, which is enough to keep the game engaging throughout. Overall, it's very much "baby's first tactical strategy game", but that does not mean it isn't a really fun time to play through. New players and veterans alike can find enjoyment here.

This shouldn’t be good; but here we are

Every time I played this game, I was reminded how much joy I get out of it. I felt so awesome when pulling off a well crafted turn. The game is set up to let you create an experience and strategy that is all your own. That's one of the highlights for me.

This game is near perfect in my book. Only two things holds it back:
1. Escort missions. Fortunately, these are the best escort missions I've played in a game.

2. Mario. By the end of the game, Mario is really outpaced in ability and versatility by other characters... And you can't switch him out. You have to use him.

wasn't for me this type of game, might try it again though

its mario with the funny rabbit guys ha ha 🐵🙊🙉🙈

Really not fan of turn-based RPG's, but this was very fun. It gets people like me who don't like them and then fixes those problems

Mario dies in this one

seu nome está anotado na minha lista especial. você mesmo. você sabe quem você e suas atitudes e você está lendo isso a noite na casa de uma senhora chamada Maria enquanto toma um café. eu sei disso. você sabe. pague pelos seus crimes.

full of good moments and really insteresting humour. good lenght but the puzzles suck. also Yoshi breaks the balance with how much op he is, but thats good since you get him late in the game and the last boss is a fucking hard battle for a game like this. 2 or 3 battles in the game were roadblocks with a difficulty spike so high you need to retry lots of times, but they actually were good moments, kinda show how the game's system can be complex. so far so good, i didnt played the DK dlc

Jesus christ this game had no right being as good as it was

By far the best part of this game was the turn-based tactical battles. You have customization between the characters. Luigi is styled as a long-range sniper while Peach is close range with a shotgun and healing capabilities.) You can level up with a skill tree and upgrade their weapons.

There's secrets and challenges to collect. One area caused graphic glitches; too much was moving on the screen and created pop up textures and objects. Thankfully I closed the game and it fixed itself. I did not care for the "puzzles" between the fights. It was either too easy to solve or trial and error. Not really fun for me.

Como fã de jogos como xcom, não esperava muita coisa desse game. Admito que adorei, tanto pelo carisma de sempre dos personagens da franquia mas também da complexidade das batalhas apresentadas. Surpresa boa!

It’s an authentic and loving homage to Mario as well, and coming from a third-party studio I’m surprised at how fantastic everything looks, in both the animation department and the words themselves. Even if you aren’t a Rabbids fanatic or a Mario fan, the fantastic battles alone have enough creativity in their mechanics to warrant a play-through. Davide Soliani and his team have done an outstanding job with Mario + Rabbids, as they’ve created an incredible tactics game that defies expectations.
