Northgard is an enjoyable pseudo-4x, RTS game which marries elements some elements of a Civ or even Stellaris style game with convention Age of Empires/Starcraft RTS gameplay. It's a neat little game and worthy of the time but is best experienced after finding it on a good sale than paying full retail.

The general flavor is Norse mythology/history inspired clans for factions all settling a new-world style continent filled with resources and mysticism for grabs. The clans are appropriately flavorful and most of the art style is quite pleasing on the eyes. Each clan has a set of bonuses that mold them into the conventional archetypes most of us are familiar with. And they are quite good though I think a little too heavy on the DLC delivery.

The gameplay itself is mostly just fine. There are city state interactions and any myriad of little quest goals throughout that give it a more 4x kinda feel. This is quite welcome and engaging as it breaks up some of the monotony of cutting wood. There are regions that can be settled which is similar to the Humankind (Amplitude) style of city settlement. There can tend to be a real hurry up and wait feel to Northgard that is similar to the more turnbased games and quite unlike most RTS gameplay.

My overall impression on Northgard after twenty some odd hours with it is that it's a fine game. There's just not enough meat on the bone to make it truly great or to ask you to pick it over over options. Similar to a Galactic Civilizations versus a Stellaris, there just doesn't seem to be too many reasons other than the Norse flavor and pleasingly cartoony artstyle to choose Northgard over Age of Empires for your weekend. Sometimes Northgard can be gotten on sale for well under $10 and at that price it's worth the curious stroll, but for big RTS fans there's better options for your time out there.

Still, Northgard's competence and polish do offer hope for the upcoming Dune: Spice Wars which is being shepherded by the Northgard developer.

Eu gosto pra caralho deste jogo, acho ele maravilhoso, amo a temática dele, mas que jogo DIFÍCIL de aprender a jogar

Slow paced RTS I feel. Maybe I am playing it wrong. Not enough variety to encourage me to complete the campaign. Would rather just play age of empires tbh.

I thoroughly enjoyed learning how to play this one. There's much I haven't tried: online pvp, certain clans that were DLC, or complete the story. My 9 hours is nothing to how much content there is to explore in Northgard. It's a RTS game which isn't something I play a lot. I do like it felt more quicker pace than other strategy games.

You could get attacked at any time and other "events" would spice up each game. One game I was hit with a blizzard during the entire winter months; I quickly ran out of food since I wasn't prepared. Another game I kept getting attacked by undead. I think each map has unique objectives and neutral races that can hurt or help you. I like you can trade with these neutral races and they can become friendly towards you. Or you can decide to straight up attack them.

I had fun in this game and I'm not fully "finished."

I won't pretend I've played a huge amount of RTS games, but this one is definitely one of my favorites. It feels pretty unique and has a very interesting approach to resource management that allows subsequent plays to be fun for a while.

Good game to introduce someone to rts

A very addicting RTS style game that works very well on console.

Solid take on a Viking style RTS game. Simple to learn, but difficult to master. Each clan plays very differently. Has multiple different ways and strategies to close out the game. Overall a great introductory into RTS games.

It's a pleasure to see someone is still trying to make original strategy games in the barren land of this forgotten genre. It's quite an addictive mix of economy and warfare, where you have to constantly balance your production, exploration and army. Interesting mechanic with "zones", giving it a bit of 'turn-based' feel. Two decent campaigns, myriad of clans to try. I had fun playing on and off over a long time, although it gets a bit repetitive if you play it for long.

Some friends will pick this over civ 6 because of game time to complete, this isn't my pick but it's growing on me.
