I enjoyed wesker being back for no fucking reason and it's funny but it plays the same as the other games. I also soft locked myself In the final battle with having no ammo left at the end so I just watched the cut seens on YouTube. I hope they remake this game next

A great title, pretty meh when it comes to the series overall. Wesker included makes this almost a comedy :)

Decepcionante.

Sucks a ton honestly, bosses are iffy and I got so bored I started skipping cutscenes, CAPCOM remake the games that are genuinely old and bad and make them work and stop remaking the mainline ones

remake it capcom your cowards

Not without flaws, and definitely doesn't hold a candle to the classic Resident Evil games, but this was so great.

I absolutely loved the baroque levels of insanity reached in the plot. Some absolutely stunning creature designs - Nosferatu and Alexia are simply amazing. Lots of fun action set pieces and I enjoyed how they switched up the environments as you revisit locations. The beginning was a quite a slog for me, but the last 3/4ths of the game was extremely enjoyable. I love it!

Also, it is not that hard...

I feel so weird about this game but has gotta be the funniest game ever cause the 5 minutes of wesker screen time and him beating chris up 😭😭

Some of the best locales in the series, and a solid way to conclude the classic RE formula. A moment of relief and the majority of CV's ost is also by far the best in the series.

It's wild though cause I thought the actual plot was also pretty solid, great lore but AWFUL voice acting. It has its charm but like it annoys me when good scenes just sound awkward.

The split story was done well but god damn the item box issue with the second half could have ruined it for me, thankfully wasn't the case.

Gotta sit with this one for a bit.

Good game!
The combination of PS2 quality and the tank controls is a bit weird.
A bit too difficult, but nothing that a little bit of practice can't handle.

Changed my brain chemistry, altered my DNA, imbalanced my chromosomes.

po é bem daora

foi nesse jogo q resident começou a ir pro caralho

love playing this game but i always restart it...need to sit down with it !!

CAPCOM I AM ON MY HANDS AND KNEES BEGGING FOR A REMAKE OF THIS GAME

Great RE game, probably one of my favorites, aside from the fact that if I didn't have save states I would've really hated this game in particular, especially the final boss

i feel like this one is a bit overhated, it had good ideas and cool locations. biggest gripe is definitely the length and a few parts are just straight up horrible (oil bridge, crystal, the boss fight after the crystal) but in the end i think its actually better than RE3. chris is goated in this one

I LOVE this game! Claire and Steve (RIP) have an awesome dynamic and Alfred Ashford?? Cross-dressing QUEEN. Love the whole messed up bioweapon twins plot, the music box, secret attic with toys and a freakin' carousel?! That’s some evil bourgeoisie magic right there. It does drag a little though like i was wondering when it was going to end despite not wanting it to end at the same time. And WESKER!! My man pops up, beats the crap out of Claire and Chris only to disappear and reappear again like the enigmatic baddie he is.

It's been 6 years since my last RE (Revelations 2) and in 2022 I decide that the time has come for me to give RE series a try. Here you may ask - why I started with this one? Well the reason is my main problem with this game. From what I understand If you leave in Europe you can buy a game, but it would be 20% slower than American version, so as a digital only release I wanted to get rid of the game that is on a separate account and then get to those that are on main. As a newbie Enjoyer what I get that this was the peak of the series in the time of release, upgraded gameplay, great visuals, real 3D, consistent story, decent characters, one of the best OST I heard in the series, okay enemies, interesting puzzles. But all of that does not hold up that well now. The tank controls, the slow button initiated step movement, long location transfer animations. Out of all RE games now - this one needs remake the most.
Platinum/100%: first of all American version is a must, the game must be finished in 4,5 hours for a rank (which is harder when you are 20% slower), no saves (in fact one between "disc 1 and 2"), and some additional side activities must be done for A rank. I made a mistake, and did all on my first run. So I did not have time to fully explore the game. Would not recommend that. After that several side battle mode runs, a rank for each character (5 total), 3 of them (Alaire, Claire Alt and Chrie) are extremely low on time (16 rooms in 5.30- 6 minutes (so American version), Steve is quite easy if you master the headshot, and Wesker is luck based, and depends if you get a Magnum in one of the rooms or not.
To sum it up: great game that does not hold up that well. Recommend only if you a fan of older parts, or want to experience full story (like me). Otherwise I think it's better to wait for remake (because it is a mistake not to make one).

Claire deserved a better game than this.

I feel conflicted about this game. Gameplay is true to form for classic RE and overall very enjoyable. Code Veronica takes a step back from the slightly action leaning RE3 and goes full survival horror with some pretty great gothic theming.

Acting and dialogue is the most hammy out of any RE games I’ve played with Alfred Ashford stealing the show in this regard. He’s one of the most ridiculous, poorly directed, and ill conceived villains I’ve seen in media outside of Sharlto Copley in Spike Lee’s baffling and appalling remake of Old Boy. Still can’t decide whether or not this is a good thing or a bad thing to have in an RE game. I personally didn’t mind him since I was at least always laughing with disbelief when he was on screen. Similar situation for the angsty teenager sidekick Steve although he’s not nearly as bad and has a couple of genuinely nice moments despite being very cartoonish and poorly acted for most of the game. On a more positive note - Wesker returns in this game and is campy in the best way possible. Easily my favorite character in the game from a writing and acting standpoint. Story on the other hand is typical RE fare and has some decent moments and a couple fun twists and turns. Overall story is good with character concepts being promising but often very poorly executed. Instead of being fun campy Alfred and Steve are so bad you can’t help but laugh campy. I’ll let prospective players decide for themselves whether or not that’s a dealbreaker. It wasn’t something I minded but I can understand people being out off by it.

CV lives up to its reputation as one of the harder RE games. For starters it only has one default difficulty, so if you’re a new player and find it to be too difficult you’re out of luck. The gameplay ends up being difficult for a couple of reasons - both good and bad.

The good: resources in this game are truly scarce and many of the enemies hit harder than they do in other games. There are also quite a few parts of the game where save rooms are very limited - especially in the first half. All of these things ramp up the difficulty and tension of the game, which I enjoyed. This shouldn’t scare off prospective players however. CV is definitely the hardest of the classic RE games but not to an unmanageable or unfair extent - especially if you’re familiar with the series and the need to conserve resources. Puzzles are also the hardest I’ve encountered in the series, which isn’t saying much, but is a welcome change nonetheless. Contrary to what I’ve seen some people say online there aren’t any overly cryptic or moon logic puzzles in this game.

On to the bad: it’s more possible in this game than any of the other RE games I’ve played to soft lock yourself. This can be through resource mismanagement, which I don’t think is necessarily a negative, but it can also be from not being prepared for the character switch, which definitely is a bad thing. You can easily lose all of your weapons except the pistol and the knife when you switch from Claire to Chris if you don’t put them in the item box before this happens. This essentially bumps up the difficulty of the 2nd half to extra hard mode, which I imagine can be a potentially game ending situation for some players. Definitely be aware of this and look up when the characters switch before playing if you don’t want this to happen. There are only a couple of times when characters switch, but it is important to be prepared for each of them. Preparing for the switches is pretty easy and guides should be able to tell you how and when to do it without spoiling anything. The fact that you need to do this in order to avoid potentially getting soft locked and potentially needing to repeat hours of gameplay, however, definitely brought this games score down a bit for me.

Overall this game does a great job scratching the classic RE itch with great survival horror gameplay, a compelling setting, and some of the most tense moments I’ve experienced in the RE series. However, it has some of the worst writing and acting in the series (saved only by being hilariously bad most of the time), and it also has a pretty poorly implemented character switch mechanic that you’ll need to read a guide on to mitigate. I definitely enjoyed my time with it overall, but I can understand why this is such a divisive entry in the series.

Addendum: just finished The Darkside Chronicles which is an RE light gun shooter that contains a pared down and more cinematic retelling of CV’s story and holy shit it fixed everything wrong with the writing and acting in this game. Would def recommend playing it if you like CV and want to see its story done well. This game has so much potential. It has such a wonderful setting and it’s probably darkest and saddest RE game and can be genuinely emotionally impactful when done right. I think a good remake that maintains its survival horror elements, fixes the story, and takes full advantage of the game’s excellent setting with modern graphics would a home run. Capcom is definitely capable of producing something like this. It’s a shame we probably won’t get it though since they’ve already skipped over this game - as well as RE0 (another flawed but fun game that could be excellent with some small tweaks) - and I wouldn’t expect them to go backwards to remake these lesser known and poorer selling titles.

Good plot, and extremely nostalgic. The game's graphics and designs are not its strong point, but it features Albert Wesker and Chris Redfield again! It left good memories but it became dated very quickly. It deserves an urgent remake!

I really love the story of Code Veronica. It adds a lot to the lore and the character development of Chris, Claire, and Wesker. The gameplay is typical of grandma’s recipe Resident Evil, which is fine with me but can be clunky of course. It’s fun with challenging boss fights and puzzles. The environment isn’t as scary as other RE games but I still enjoyed it. However, I got softlocked at the end of the game prior to the second Alexia boss fight. This was due to Claire having all of my high power weapons and not being able to get them back into Chris’s inventory. Really easy mistake to make on the first play through apparently. Bad game design imo as I had no idea I would not need them as Claire or that I wouldn’t be able to get them back. However, I really do love the story and the gameplay up to that point.

Boring location, bad characters, Steve
