A solid puzzle game that is actually pretty fun to play in short bursts.
With 100 levels to solve it offers a surprising amount of content, especially for a game released in 1985. The core gameplay loop of strategically breaking walls to complete the level is simple to grasp but gets super challenging (almost to the point of impossible), especially in the later levels.
Overall, I had a decent time with this and could see myself trying to knock out a few more levels when I'm bored.

the game is pretty entertaining in the earlier phases and i like the short bursts of brain teasing they offer... but as they increase in size and complexity it just starts to become rather exhausting, not to mention repetitive.
the enemies and fire balls can be really frustrating to navigate around in certain phases, even if i get that's apart of the puzzle in a sense. i also found foreman spike's interference annoying at times.
i might try to come back to this to properly finish all the phases but as of now i think i'm going to move onto bigger and better things.

More than a action platformer game, this is a puzzle game. There is fun to be had, and it's an interesting concept that I'd like to see get a modern take. Still, it's full of NES jank, I was only able to get to PHASE 81 and I just can't see how should I beat that level. I also abandoned the thing for like a year or two and constantly used the rewind feature in the NSO version, so I'm deciding on abandoning it completely and consciously this time.
Played for 5 hours and 59 minutes through Nintendo Switch Online.

I'm weirdly enamored by this game's puzzle design, but I really couldn't tell you why. Graphically, the game is alright but not especially impressive. The puzzles and hazards get kind of repetitive after a while. Despite involving Mario using ladders and hammers, the lack of a jump means that it doesn't actually feel much like Donkey Kong.
Something about Wrecking Crew just activates the part of my brain that likes "figure out the order of events"-style puzzle-solving. Easily the most impressive thing is the number of distinct levels (there's a hundred of them!), which gives the game a shocking longevity compared to other games of its era.
