The Rock Band format doesn't work nearly as well with a controller or a keyboard instead of a plastic instrument. However, I really like the multiplayer aspect. It's a lot of fun to join a random lobby and see Donatello run up to the set list and immediately put down "Bad Romance" and then I say "Hell yeah, and then lets play some NIN" and then we start dancing while waiting for the other two people to decide what they want to add.
The rotating selection of limited songs hasn't been an issue for me so far because they're almost all bangers, including the original music. I guess we'll see how long they can keep that up.

It's fine as a free novelty to play with friends before or after a session of BR but the monetization structure here of buyable songs is expected but really terrible, especially given how middling the actual gameplay is here. Takes almost no time to get 98%+ scores on expert drums level due to how loose the timing is--again, it's fine for a free novelty but no way in hell am I paying 500 god damn V-Bucks for Party Rock Anthem, that's fuckin' highway robbery.
for the fortnite audience who probably isnt that familiar with the rhythm game genre, this is honestly a really good way to introduce it to a very large playerbase. for me personally as someone who is a bit more familiar of the genre and has liked rhythm games for a while, i think it's an ok rhythm game. the charts are actually pretty well done and a lot of fun to play, but even on expert from the songs ive played i havent felt extremely challenged yet. not to say that's a bad thing, im just hoping that in the future once more people are familiarized with rhythm gaming and get better at fortnite festival the difficulty level will increase some for the harder difficulties. also while the 4 chart types for each mode are all very well put together, it's a little disappointing how similar the gameplay is between each instrument. when i talk about this game with friends i call it "fortnite rockband" but it isn't quite there yet given rockband has all the peripherals that make that distinction between the gameplay of each instrument and instead each instrument is just played on the same keyboard keys/controller buttons. given this mode did just come out last month so it's hard to criticize it too much when im sure they have plenty of updates in store for it and there's always potential that physical plastic guitars make a comeback if this mode stays alive for a while. given they've been updating the mode with a few new songs every week so it's getting good support to keep it alive which makes the future of the mode promising
Not bothering to log my playtime/dates on this as I do that for the season page of Fortnite, anyway. Fortnite Festival is fun, but the controls are still rather difficult to wrap around without Rockband peripheral support. Epic says they'll be introducing said support next year, and will certainly invest more time in the mode at that point. My largest complaint aside from the controls is how overpriced songs are for said mode. It's nice to be able to use purchased songs in other modes, but essentially $5 a track (especially with such pisspoor selection) is a ripoff, meaning you're subjected to whatever is on the daily rotation or play whatever original garbage Epic, themselves cook up.
I say this but I did buy Buddy Holly for the meme so I have no high horse to stand on, here.

Am seriously addicted to this. Even with a lack of songs and modes at the moment, I am thoroughly enjoying this game. This is really my first time playing a rhythm game of this style and although I sucked at first, I am loving the process of slowly getting better and better. Don't know if I'll consistently play this in the future, but will probably keep coming back to check out new songs or whatever else they add.
