If I could summarize this in one word, it's "bland". It's not bad or anything but it's the equivalent of eating a slice of white bread with nothing on it. I struggle to understand how this game has such raving reviews on Steam (97-98% positive)

I had no expectations going into it (since I wasn't looking forward to it's release and I played it wayyy later) and I had quite a bit of fun with it.

Bosses being reused a lot, humor being hit and miss and the gameplay not being as good as Duke3D made it less fun, but not enough for it to be a 1,7/5 game (avg rating here). I also like all types of shooters so it not being a boomer shooter anymore didn't bother me.

It's not as good in the second half, but the first half of the game is one of the most fun experiences I had in an FPS. It's really fun and silly in the best way possible.

The game itself has very limited content and tools both in survival mode and creative mode. Survival mode pales in comparison to something like Terraria. Creative mode doesn't have a lot of tools. To go back to the Terraria example, as limited as it is, you can change the shape of blocks in that game. And it has many, many more decorative items that enhances building, even if it's a 2D game.

Minecraft becomes great/amazing because of what the COMMUNITY does with mods. Which is why I can't give it a good rating.

Amazing music, amazing artistic vision, insanely scary without relying on jumpscares, fun puzzles and still relatively fun gameplay. Going through this game is an insanely harrowing experience in the best way possible. I wanted to write something interesting but it's difficult to put into words how great it is. Because it becomes great through the sum of it's parts.

The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because some puzzles (piano) are very difficult to figure out without a guide, New game + automatically forcing the difficulty up and hard not being fun for me and how the tank controls are outdated by now.

This route only has high highs and low lows. No in between.

I love the series, but after having spent close to 300 hours across the 4 games I played, it becomes more and more apparent how empty they are. And this is theoretically the one with most to do.

Animal Crossing is an amazing experience but a mediocre game. The closest thing to it are farming simulators like Story of Seasons and Stardew. Except they have actually fleshed out characters, instead of hundreds of villagers with one out of a few personalities and some quirks. They do have a lot of charm, but they're inferior in every way. Which is why the game discourse goes more into "I love this villager because of how they look" as opposed to "I love the writing for this character". Outside of the store clerks and Isabelle.

The real time clock is a unique idea, but you'd need to play regularly for a year to get to see events. Which are the only time the game deviates. Someone could put 100 hours in one month and then get bored. The only reason they'd play more is when there's an event, potentially months after they stopped playing. Same about seasonal specific bugs and fish.

The activities are enjoyable but few. And their profitability varies a lot on season. Summer fish is the best way to make money for instance. The amount of time it takes to do things also means that progression is slow. Which is good for a game like this, but it builds up on the other frustrations, like it not having much to do.

The house decoration is fun, but with how grindy it is to expand your house and how you need to check the store daily to hopefully get things you like, it ends up taking too long for you to be able to play with it enough.

This and the Gamecube game are very treasured experiences of mine, but they are just not good games.

Some of the best you can find in terms of first person shooters. Great map variety, great guns, lots of enemy types and some of the best boss fights in FPS games. The only bad thing is the writing if you don't like dumb humor. Because all the humanoids in this game take turns on who gets the one braincell in the universe. But you can very easily skip all of the cutscenes.

It also has actually fun vehicle segments that aren't too prevalent, keeping them interesting when they appear. There's a lot of fun gimmicks thrown in the mix for levels generally too. Like some levels where you are forced to speedrun them and a "freezing" mechanic where you need to move in and out of shelter.

I never understood why this game is considered the worst in the series. If I were to guess, it's how much gameplay variety it has and the fact it's long. That and how stylistically different it is from every other Sam game.

Does open world better than many current open world games. It's all a quest to gather information from people, piece it together and eventually reach the end of the game.

The morality system is great and I enjoyed the experience of making my maps for the overworld by hand. Unlike the dungeons, I can quickly draw it and have more room for error in interpretation.

However, it has the WORST battle system I have ever seen. It's also incredibly slow and you need to grind a fair bit. I'd honestly recommend this to anyone interested in RPG history and a unique experience to open world exploration. But don't force yourself past the point it stops being fun.

Great fun when I played, but the more time passes, the less and less I like the game. It's a visual novel so, obviously, I care about writing most. It's not great. The honeymoon phase being over fully now, the game not having a real story, just a lot of individual stories that mostly end up being unfinished makes me feel like they thought about things happening and were content with superficiality. Stuff happening in the world is just material for characters to talk about. The game is too short and they toss too much under the rug. I like most characters, but I didn't feel most of them were developed satisfyingly enough.

Most of the sexual themed jokes (which are plenty) feel like they're made by a teenager boy who found out lesbians are a thing. And when it's not between women, it's not much better. The writing when it involves anything sexual is very immature 9 times out of 10.

All in all, to end with, it's style over substance. I loved that style when I played, but it has worn out for me and the substance isn't anything special. Feels like it's considered so well written because people who played this probably didn't play any other visual novels.

I liked what I played of it, but I don't want to play 60 hours of a dating sim with every woman in the cast to get to the actual story. The game was really fun to start, but even in just one route I did, it felt like it took too long without much of substance happening by the end. I lost interest in the second route I tried to do because the story structure or the pacing didn't change much.

The biggest positive for me was that the game was really funny. Didn't feel a lot towards the romance. I'm sure I wouldn't have finished even one route if it didn't have such hilariously stupid joke interactions. The music is also stellar. And I personally really love the artstyle.

The gameplay, especially past the first region, is Breath of the Wild but a lot better. Even if it's a gacha, you're going to have at least one character of every element even if you never pull for anyone. The way they put elemental puzzles and synergy between elements in exploration puts it above Breath of the Wild's puzzles that show you all they have going for them early on.

The combat is infinitely better also. Team building is insanely fun and it's easy to get 4* characters to have a lot of experimentation even without paying for currency.

The only bad thing about this game for me is that the writing kept getting worse and more padded out. It was mostly inoffensive in the first 2 areas, but the third region and the fourth region, the little I played of it, has awful writing and insane amounts of filler. That's literally the only reason I stopped playing. But I'm aware the average player likes having lots of text and they target that audience.

Feels like all the top reviews with under 2 star ratings conveniently ignore how amazing the exploration and gameplay systems are. They put a lot of 60$ RPGs to shame.

The only good thing this game does is some of the tightest and most engaging shootouts I've seen in a long while. They feel incredibly well designed and smart for a cover shooter. But the downside is that even for me, who has a lot of shooting game experience, it felt really difficult. And that's on normal difficulty. I think it might be too difficult (unless easy is a lot easier) for people who aren't as experienced past a point.

I might remember wrongly, but the first game had far more puzzles and platforming. The balance is skewed towards shooting in this by a large margin. Which I don't really like.

The writing is awful as was the first game's, except this one is dumber. The banter between characters is still great, just like the first game. I wish it extended to general writing quality though.

I love the visual novel also, but I think this is one of the few cases where an adaptation of the source material is better. The anime in this case. A romantic relationship buildup is very important for the last chunk of the game to be impactful. The visual novel made it so if you miss one flag for it, you stop being eligible to get any of the later ones. The ending has little impact in regards to internal conflicts without it. Which you'd need to follow a guide for to get them all.

Even so, the anime presented it much better. Other than that, this game has a lot more filler. At least compared to Chaos;Head Noah and Steins;Gate 0 from the same company. Early in the game, the game takes 2 hours to explain all the time travel theories at the time of the game's release, for an example.

What you lose, the non-canon endings not present in the anime don't affect the experience much. They all feel harem-y where it's just focused on the main character getting buddy buddy with the other women. They have nice ideas, but they all boil down to that.

Ideally, if you liked either, I think it's great to watch the anime or play the game also. But I think watching the anime and seeing the Mayuri ending for the visual novel also is enough.

I love the world, combat, and interconnected map, but this game really is only made for people who get a kick out of surpassing difficult things. I never feel any accomplishment for finishing a boss I struggled with to have any drive to push forward. The positives don't make up for frustration and I don't feel rewarded to want to chase that high.
