Hotel Dusk is an amazing point-and-click visual novel, especially helped with its superb translation (at least, for the NTSC version). With visual novels, my favorite type of protagonist is one who is competent in the environment they're thrown in; Kyle Hyde fits the bill. The rest of the cast are largely likable, or at least developed, and uncovering the secrets each one holds is the name of the game. DeNonno and Rosa quickly grew to be my favorite supporting characters. And watching the true ending (post-credits scene in a NG+) actually gave me shivers!

Despite its positives, I did have some problems with the game. The dialogue speed and walking speed are slow. This doesn't help when you reach a game over and need to reread sections to catch back up. It also doesn't help there are moments the game doesn't hold your hand for your next objective, leaving you directionless. In those times, I was wandering the corridors of the hotel hoping I triggered an event.

I read that the sequel, Last Window, was never localization in North America, so I'm kinda worried the dialogue quality won't be on the same level as Hotel Dusk. Nonetheless, I'm looking forward to seeing another game of Kyle Hyde.
