The first and only Max Payne without Sam Lake being the main writer and it is pretty immediately felt. The gritty, noir feeling of the first two is replaced a somewhat sunny but still grungy setting as Max hangs up his leather jacket in Hoboken for a flak jacket in Sao Paulo. Dan Houser's writing for Max is still great and the story really grabs you starting in the third act but before that it felt like I was just being dragged along. The gameplay is solid but feels more limited due to the nature of Rockstar's somewhat realism in most there games. No longer is the one man army Max Payne who can carry 2 shotguns, 3 rifles, 4 pistols, and a holy plethora of grenades. You are now limited to 2 pistols and a rifle, the attention to detail is nice but really makes the game feel less fun. Bullet time remains and like everything else in this game feels weighty and visceral. My main complaint with this game however is that it almost feels more like a cover shooter then the power fantasy of the first two games, maybe its due to the age of Payne or Rockstar's commitment to realism but you are a lot more vulnerable and I found it a pretty frustrating shift in gameplay. Overall, Remedy's titles are the superior Max Payne games with their tone and gameplay but this game is still worth the playthrough.

One of the best values in gaming

Giving this game a 5/5 again because it fucking rules

One of those sequels that is just a straight improvement over the first one. Graphics are better, animations smoother, and Remedy's same ingenious level of sound and level design are present. The only flaw is this game doesn't try to innovate on its formula, which is fine because the core gameplay loop of Max Payne is a lot of fun for a game this short.

Max Payne has aged insanely well, from the hyperbole style of writing to the immaculate sound/level design. I just wish that the current port on Steam didn't have so many issues. I had to install a third party application to fix the audio issues and the game crashed more times then I can count on one hand, one of the missions is just unbeatable if you save in the middle of it. Overall, definitely worth trying in the modern era of gaming.

While I am glad these arcadey matrix-action like games are still being published within the indie scene I just didn't really enjoy how this one controlled and the pacing of it. While there is legitimately fun moments that made me smile when I saw what I had just pulled off, the game needs to be sped up to go for the insanity it wants to pull off. It should do what Superhot did by showing you a re-cap of what you've done at a faster speed.

A fun game to add to my daily routine to really boost my ego

Cool demo but it felt like the game was trying to sell itself more on the narrative then the combat which is concerning, artstyle is gorgeous and I wish the gameplay shown emphasized more on the individual characters abilities (which are quite cool looking) rather than just a regular battle, great potential here though!

I could write a review on how great the writing in this game, almost too great because characters cut each other off and annoyingly start another conversation all the time. I could also write about how the gameplay doesn't really innovate but keeps itself just fresh enough throughout the games runtime.

But I would rather talk about how this game has the greatest game mechanic of all time being Huddle-Up. It led to some of my favorite game moments of the year such as beating Fin Fang Foom while listening to Rainbow's "Since You Been Gone" and beating Grand Unifier Rakker while listening to Starship's "We Built This City" and that rules so hard.

Wow. All I can say is wow. I have never had a game so delightfully subvert my expectations all the while keeping my interest and wanting to keep playing. This is one of the coolest games I have ever played, please do go in as blind as possible. For sure one of my favorite games of this year.

There has never really been anything quite like Alan Wake, this remaster proves it. This edition improves everything that Remedy did great the first time, the excellent use of lighting and use of environment to guide you through this twisting tale. I wish that the combat was improved as this game still contains the most unreliable dodge button in any video game ever. Due to this the game still feels somewhat aged and is pretty difficult to play due to this. The frustrating nature of the gameplay would make this game a hard recommend, however I still believe that this game is one of the pinnacles of game writing. It's bonkers how well the game is written and how much depth every little manuscript you pick up contains. If Remedy learns from Control I do believe the upcoming sequel could be their best game yet.

Really my first dive into the visual-novel genre, the closest related thing being Persona. For the most part, I really enjoyed my time! The writing for the most part was great and funny. The twists were pretty foreseeable, especially if you know the big twist (which you probably do due to the nature of the internet). I did have some annoyances with gameplay, as well as the feeling that the protagonist was a plot device rather than the vessel that pushes the story forward which leads to what could have been some of the more interesting/harrowing moments in the story to be explained rather than shown (which might come with the genre, I do not know). The game also did not perform spectacularly on the new collection on Switch, which is a shame, it also left a bad taste in my mouth when the game crashed on the final case and I lost over an hour of progress. Overall, I will return to the series as I heard the sequels do have better characters and story-telling, I just won't be returning right away.

I have never had a piece of media get me excited for something potentially 5-6 years away, play it if you have access to it

Nier Replicant ver.1.whateverthehell is a remaster of an excellent Square game. A game who's topics of identity and family are backed not only by some of the best writing I have seen in a game but by one of the greatest OST's as well. Only brought down by the weak side quests as well as some story missions just feel like fetch quests to pad out the game. Overall, a must play for any fan of this genre.

The best Telltale game and one of the best entries in this weird and wacky franchise
