1993

Hard for me to hate this game since I played it so much as a kid. You have 4 x-men to choose from and switch between and that's always been a game mechanic I wished every x-men game continued using.

The game is simple (til it's not) but the games overall presentation is really rad. Genesis to the core. Worth a play if you like x-men.

Somehow worse than X-men which at least was "OK"

First of all why are the buttons reversed? X-men and X-men 2 have A and B as attacks but here A is jump? What a mess from the beginning.

Game runs smooth and that's the only nice thing I have to say.

Might be the best platfomer ever made. It's either tied with Ape Escape or is better than it. Have to let the time simmer since I just beat this game (and almost 100%ed it)

Incredible levels, music, characters, story, everything. Except some chuggy framerate at parts, this is a perfect video game. A classic, an essential play. What more can I say?

For fans of living.

Really disappointed with this one. Reminded me of Mario Party cause the minigames suck.

Looked good, though, and it has plenty of characters to play as. Cool music so it's 4/10 and not 2.

Cute sprites and stuff of the racoon. Everything else was like whatever. Put the raccoon in a better game, please.

Ok so this one is actually not terrible, but still not good.

Enemies still swarm you but it's more manageable, and there's a lot of characters to unlock as you beat the stages. The music is better, listenable. The boss fights aren't nonsense.

Still a bad-ish game, but way better than the first 2 X-Men games on Game Gear.

Just as bad as the first one on Game Gear. 0 improvements.

1994

Bad music, gameplay, controls. What I expected.

2/10 because it wasn't buggy.

Another game that I really REALLY tried to like. Again, I do not mind the graphics, but even the regular combat in this beat em up sucks. The levels are crap to explore too.

3 stars cause the music is bumpin'

Goddamn this was a fun motherfucker. While I was playing through all those Spider-Man games, a few people in chat mentioned this game to me as a good game to play involving comicbook heroes. Yup they were right.

Combat is so satisfying. Love the dismemberment, love the impact that a lot of your moves have. It's so fucking fun just drilling and cutting and slicing into dudes. Definitely makes you feel like you're Wolverine. Lot of cool ways to kill enemies with the environment, too.

Most of the locales are cool, with the entire Senitnel area being my favorite part of the game, as a huge X-men fan. Wish there were more X-men peeps but I guess they were limited to whatever was in the movie. I haven't seen the movie, for whatever that's worth.

Some of the areas, basically all of Africa, I got so sick of by the 4th time going back there. That and the entire final chapter kinda sours my opinion of an otherwise amazing action game. A lot of the design choices are hard for me to criticize, like the final boss and Sabretooth's designs, because they were forced to tie it into the movie.

9/10. Essential action game.

Excellent game, much better than I expected. Really wish I played this before now, but that's the point of going through our backlogs right?

Atmosphere is top notch, which I expect from From Software. The music was so chill, and often crazy in interesting ways. The weapon/armor/art system was cool, interesting seeing a game like this not involve leveling.

It's definitely an interesting adventure full of way different environments from each other, lot of cool 'puzzles' and a story that had me scratching my head, in a good way.

Hated most of the bosses, and often the gameplay was too simple, even for 2000 era From Software. Nothing debilitating but definitely why I might take a break before trying the sequel.

Worth a look if you enjoy video games.

Really wanted to like this. I can forgive the graphics and shit like that but goddamn, there is no recovery time when you get knocked down. All my deaths were from getting dogpiled after getting knocked down. Was so unfun.

Still gave it 3/10 cause the music is stupid good. And I love the Fantastic Four so I love how all 4 play differently. Didn't finish the game but did 6 whole stages before running out of continues from getting dogpiled.

Might replay this in the future, it wasn't like a total abortion, just frustrating sometimes from broken gameplay.

Don't let the score fool you, this game was better than alright, BUT I know this shit was $50 when it came out and I would be pissed if I bought this since I finished it in less than 90 minutes.

Took a few stages for the game to click for me. It's a fun arcade game with 6 stages, the boss fights being the highlight. Half my playtime was on the last 3 bosses alone, tough but fun.

Loved the music, which is probably done by the Trigun guy? The whole game feels like it mutated from a Trigun project with the people involved. Just wish it had more meat to it for the price.

One of the funnier games I've played in a while, and definitely also one of the cutest. Worth anyone's time.

Easy, short, but solid, maybe something you dig out every year or so and play through to hear the funny lines. Feel like a sequel would have advanced the gameplay a lot more.

Also fantastic music, I could let it sit on the main menu all day and not get sick of that song.

Excellent game. As someone who thinks Ape Escape is the bets platformer of all time, I am glad I played this game because it is fantastic.

Caught all monkeys and it was a blast. Lot of variety in the levels, unfortunately only a couple of new gadgets, only 1 of us which was fun to use (the magnet)

Music was great, graphics and performance were great.

Only reason this is a 9 and not a 10 for me is because this felt like more of the same of the 1st game but not as grand, and the story was not as personal-feeling as Spike's story. Whole thing felt like a big expansion pack which was a slight letdown but I still had a LOT of fun with this one. Love what you unlock for getting all monkeys, worth maybe another playthrough sometime soon for that alone.

See you on Poinie's Poin.
