Dante's Inferno was often referred as a God of War clone in 2010, the year of its release, which is certainly true in many areas. As the Kratos reboot was still a long way off, one thing was clear to the majority of the gaming public: why should I play the copy when I can pop the outstanding and original game from Santa Monica into my PS2/PS3 instead? This is no doubt also the reason for the financial flop of the title developed by Visceral Games, as it is basically a rock-solid hack and slay that doesn't make any major mistakes. After the God of War reboot, the genre, with the exception of Bayonetta and a few other titles, is no longer as common or as hyped as it was 15 years ago. This is also the reason why Dante's Inferno almost felt fresh again after so many years. It returns to the basic principles of the genre: small jumping passages, smashing all enemies in a dedicated and closed-off arena and moving on to the next one. Anyone who likes this gameplay will also enjoy Dante's Inferno, that's for sure.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze also looks incredibly good on the Nintendo Switch, just like on the Wii U. The backgrounds and animations are at an extremely high level. The level of difficulty is not without its challenges, making Tropical Freeze one of the harder Nintendo platformers. You also have to get used to the movement, as some of the jumps and rolls are a little floaty and not as crisp as you would expect from Mario games, for example. Nevertheless, it does a lot of things right and was a lot of fun. Highly recommended!
The biggest and best Smash Bros. of all time. An incredibly good and extensive roster and almost no content wish remains unfulfilled. If it now offered a single-player experience like Brawl or the collectibles were on a par with Melee, it would be almost perfect. Almost, because unfortunately the online mode just doesn't work without lag, which really annoys me. I'd probably play Smash online all the time if Nintendo could finally get this under control...
