I can respect this game’s story and anyone who likes the game solely for it but man like 90% of my enjoyment from this series stems from the gameplay and it was like impossible for me to get invested as a result of it being bad here. Hoping I like Eternal Punishment more
This was my actual first experience with Gen 1 pokemon back when it launched on 3DS. I guess there’s a chance I could like this version more too if I replayed it but idk I’m pretty confident this is just a worse version of Red and Blue since it doesn’t really fix anything and Pikachu kind of sucks!

Growing up means realizing Pokémon in general has always been fun and you can still consider yourself a fan of the series even if you think the newer games could be more than they actually are
Only slight problem I have with gen 1 tbh is how suddenly the levels jump up at the elite 4 but thankfully the AI is stupid enough to where it doesn’t matter + you could just use the rare candy cloning glitch if you really want to. For this playthrough my friend and I played alongside each other via the 3DS vc releases and I think that definitely was part of the reason why I enjoyed this game a lot more. Now I actually have a realistic chance at catching them all!

it’s good obviously tho not being able to skip the opening cutscene for these levels kinda blows

Picked this up again recently after buying it near launch only to play it for 3 hours and drop it for over a year. I was a bit confused on what justified another Splatoon on switch + worried about if I would still enjoy this series as much as I did half a decade ago but im glad to see that hasn’t changed at all. Whether or not this game’s existence at all is justified or not I guess varies on who you are but the main campaign is once again very, very good and while I do wish there was a new ranked mode style added or something, it’s still a really fun time and that’s about all I can ask for from a sequel.

Went back and did hard mode + got the platinum finally before Rebirth released. Still really awesome, the parts I didn’t like much for the most part weren’t as bad (besides Sector 6 slums, fuck that) and the parts I did really like are still phenomenal. Also hard mode itself is really fucking fun, really takes the combat to a whole other level imo despite being fairly simple changes.

I liked the music for the last area at least? This probably would’ve been more enjoyable if I actually made use of the level editor here but there’s no point now that miiverse shut down and street pass is barely even a thing now and I can’t imagine this game was very active in the first place. Besides that it’s basically just the same as most of the games in this series.
Interesting idea that gets pretty old after a while. The main mode is honestly the worst one of the bunch with how strict the timer can be and just having to constantly manage pieces in order to not get too many and game over just isn’t very fun. The other modes are alright though. Not as good as Mini Land Mayhem but I’ll give it some credit for trying something new
