The best version of Kanto to play overall. The games are full on remakes of the original Red and Blue/Green in the Gen 3 engine with all of the improvements that came with it. They’re mostly a 1:1 remake, but with some added content like the new typings introduced in Gen 2, the Sevii Islands, and more. Speaking of the Sevii Islands, everytime I play these games I always am taken out of the story when Bill comes and whisks you away after beating the 7th gym. Though it’s only a short segment, I’m just too used to how Gen 1s story plays out that I wish I could skip that initial Sevii Islands visit. Overall though, these are fantastic games that you should play if you want to experience Kanto.

8.5/10 Mortal Kombat campaigns are always great, and this one is no exception. The team at NetherRealm have delivered nothing but high quality games since Mortal Kombat (2011), so I had high hopes for this one. The only pretty bad thing that stood out to me instantly is Megan Fox’s voice acting. Everyone does a pretty good to great job, but it’s clear she is not a voice actor. I enjoy when a game has a main stream as part of its cast, but this is one case where it doesn’t work. The gameplay is top notch and plays beautifully. Hopefully next up is Injustice 3 (or DC vs Marvel…).

My favourite Modern Sonic game. Though Mania does the “bring the classic levels back for a new game” thing better, it’s really cool seeing a lot of these levels in HD and 3D. I wish it was a little longer, like maybe 4 zones for each era rather than 3, but the short length helps the game not over stay it’s welcome.

I remember being so excited for this when it was coming out. I begged my parents for more allowance to be able to get a Xbox card to get the game. Then I played it. It was fine at the time. Now, it’s just ok. It’s better than episode 1 by far. But it’s just ok.

My favourite Kirby game. Takes everything from the first game and makes it better. This is the best version of the original Kirby’s Adventure. There’s no lag when playing and the button layout is a lot better. I just wish this was the 3DS’ full resolution instead of a smaller 4:3 screen, since they made a bunch of other improvements.

A very basic and short platformer. It does a great job as gamers first game by being extremely simple and easy to control. That being said, it’s still a good time playing it. It always take a bit of getting used to because there’s no copy abilities like later games.

Literally just 4 levels. Each based a zone from episode 1 but you have a Metal Sonic skin on. I remember being excited for this when I first heard about it in 2012. It sucked then and it sucks now.

Only playing this because I was playing origins plus and now want to replay all the classic Sonic games before Superstars.

It’s awful.

These are the definitive releases of the classic Sonic games. Sega finally releasing the Whitehead version of 1 and 2 on consoles (plus CD on current/last gen as opposed to stuck on 360/PS3), plus having part of the Mania team remaster 3K was great. There are a lot of glaring issues with each game that should not exist, especially with the games that were remastered a decade ago. But having all the classic games available in 16:9 HD/4K with a ton of enhancements, such as cutscenes that show the full story and bridge the games together make this the definitive version to play.

The missions included are a nice bonus. Some of the later ones can really test even hardcore Sonic fans.

Game Gear games are a nice addition, but the emulation for sound is bad. Fun to play for a minute, then probably not again. It would’ve been cool if Plus included a remastered (or hell, even just an emulated) version of Knuckles Chaotix, as I don’t believe it’s ever been rereleased.

The best of the original four games. While I don’t like some levels, like Sandopolis, the level designs are the most refined compared to the others. Likewise, the graphics are absolutely stunning and a quite noticeable improvement over 2. The elemental shields give Sonic his own unique abilities to compensate for the other characters expanded movesets.

Now onto Sonic fo… Oh no.

A lot more refined than the first game and CD. The level design is vastly improved. This game overall is a lot more fun. There’s some frustrating moments, but the good greatly outweighs any negatives.

You can really tell this was made by the team who made Sonic 1 and not 2/3K.

This is definitely the first game in the series. While the version included in Sonic Origins Plus has many enhancements, like the spin dash, drop dash, 16:9 support, it still isn’t as good as Sonic 2 or 3K. The name of the game is speed, but many of the zones aren’t built around it. Hell, as soon as you’re out of Green Hill you’re in Marble Garden, my least favourite and slowest level. It’s still a good game and still holds up, but the others are so much better.

Better than the first game. It’s a short, but fun game that has a very distinct art style compared to the main console Mario games. The Mario Land duology could definitely do with expanded remakes on the switch.

The best of the add ons so far. The levels look great and the equipment you use is themed as if they’re from bikini bottom and are part of the show. Hopefully future DLC keeps up this level of detail.
