Rivals basically proved this genre can exist sans Nintendo's involvement, and my only true gripe with it is how much it leans into being a competitive experience. Not to say that it's just a way for Melee players to try something new, they have plenty of alternative content, but the game felt a bit empty outside of its near-perfect core before they opened the Workshop.

finally, a non-Rivals plat fighter that feels like a video game and not like an excuse to rip your controller apart. im pretty sure that part comes soon though. the ledge mechanics are a bit odd and there's still a lot of bugs and odd decision-making when it comes to UI choices but I'm excited for a new game to learn and compete in for the first time since Ultimate
