Super Mario Sunshine
Super Mario Sunshine
The only one I enjoyed enough that i dabbled speedrunning to a great extent. Obviously as a base game it's pretty generous to the act of being bored, but the comfy island aesthetic and maybe my favorite 3d platforming I've ever had the grateful privilege to touch (that isn't SA2, anyway) is more than enough to rocket into being my favorite.

Super Mario Galaxy 2
Super Mario Galaxy 2
On a moment to moment level this one is the best, simply for its extensively enjoyable level design that really keeps my engagement throughout a single world with barely a dip or two. While it's certainly lacking in mostly every other compartment, it fills a weird genre of "Soulless but god is it good".

Super Mario 64
Super Mario 64
I've never super understood the camera complaints but hey i'm a character action game fan so like, my bar is really low. That being said I don't find the tech here interesting enough for me to re-engage past a couple playthroughs. It's a very good playground, and that's the part that matters. The Fun Toybox.

Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
I actually detest like half of this game's levels, simply for fucking about with you and slowing you down into gimmicks that ALWAYS pull you away from most of your moveset. Astonishingly willing to shoot the player in the name of spectacle.

But goddamn... it's an incredible one. The music is my favorite of the mario series in entirety, and it has such a grand ol heart to it that steals a tear from my eye. When I think of Mario Galaxy, I think of the song Birth, and the whole ending that song is set around. Beautiful.

4

Super Mario 3D World
Super Mario 3D World
I don't have much to talk about here. I know I USED to enjoy it, but when I tried replaying I felt my sense give in rather quickly. The multiplayer, by my memory, is where it's at and while that's a silly thing to give to this game alone it meets that line and goes further by having a slapper of an ost, great aesthetic, and cozy attitude.

5

Super Mario Odyssey
Super Mario Odyssey
I still think this one is "alright", but as time goes on I can only think less of it. I don't "really" understand where people are coming from about this movement at all, I've fucked around with it a lot. For example, Sunshine when you pull off any tech, your options from said tech are aplenty and can lead to very interesting ways of tackling challenges. Odyssey? It's a LITERAL single-line flowchart (and trust me I drew it out!!!) with the only interesting option when you stop in the middle of it or 'break' out of it. The aesthetic is solid, but it's not enough to really sell a game to me that feels like a trashy sort of putty. Unironically the Megablox toyset of mario.

Super Mario 3D Land
Super Mario 3D Land
I think this game deserves me going back to it rather than shafting it to the bottom of the list. But despite its soul, it bores me just to think about it for a significant amount of time. It's maybe a better sum than its parts, but not enough for me to treat it highly at all. The only one here I thoroughly didn't enjoy by my memory.
