2023

Kinda boring, although the aesthetic is nice. Not much going on here, to be honest.

A surprisingly pretty fun little re-imagining/prequel to the O.G. Final Fantasy. The combat system is 100% the best part of the entire experience, with so many levels of customization made possible by a wide range of job classes, weapons and abilities. You can fine-tune so much of your experience that it's honestly a little overwhelming, but it's great fun to mess around with different builds and move-sets to find what works for you.

The game is very challenging, which is something you'll either love or hate. I personally put the difficulty down just to get through it a little easier because the one bad thing about the entire game is the story and characters. For the vast majority of the runtime, the characters are uninteresting and the story is boilerplate nonsense. It's only really the last handful of missions where the story becomes good and the characters start to shine through, and you get the whole picture of what the game was going for. It would have been much better if the story had been reworked a little bit more to make the overall experience more enjoyable because honestly, the combat solo carries until the very end of the game.

I also didn't complete the "Bahamut" trials or whatever, because I just have no interest in grinding for better equipment and replaying the entire game again. It already took me 30 hours to get through it once, so much like the endgame of Middle Earth: Shadows of War, I just left it.
Overall though, this was a good experience. It's not going to blow you away in any way, but it's a very solid action game akin to Nioh, and you get a nice payoff for seeing it through to the end if you're a fan of the Final Fantasy series. I honestly wouldn't mind a complete remake of FF I & II with this combat style, but just keeping to their original plot lines.

I played this for way too fucking long because I saw the How Long To Beat was like 3 hours. I thought I could just truck through the bullshit and get through it, but I just can't dude. It's way too fucking bad and painfully unfun to play and the story is so nothing that it couldn't even keep me going through the experience.

2021

Nothing spectacular. It's ostensibly a "Journey"-like, but it lacks the same weight and poignance of that experience. Ultimately, you do basically the same thing through 10 areas, and there's nothing else really there.

Music: 10/10
Art & Presentation: 10/10
Characters & Story: A little too pretentious and "lol random". Would probably make a pretty good Edgar Wright movie.

An absolutely beautiful little journey, but don't pay attention or think too deeply about anything anybody says.

Pretty fun beat-'em-up. I probably would've never played this had I not received it for free with PS+, to be honest. I'm just not that into the genre.

I don't even know how to describe this game. It's just vibes. It's an experience you must go through for yourself, as blind as possible, to get the most out of it. It's about the choices you make, no matter how small. It's about trying to find the truth when there is never enough time. It's about living with the consequences of your actions. I don't think I've ever had an experience like this - where I felt the passing of time and the characters' growth so deeply. This one is going to live in my mind rent-free for a while.

It only took me three attempts - once on PC, once on Android, and now finally on PS4 - and about 25 years, but I've finally completed the O.G. FF VII. Heralded as one of the greatest gaming achievements, I can safely say this is an unequivocal masterpiece.
How can a game where you know the biggest twist of it still end up making you cry? Don't ask me, man, but it did.

Another game in the sub-genre of walking simulators set in space wherein you investigate what happened to the previous crew, but this one is actually very engaging, much like Fullbright's originator of the walking sim genre - Gone Home. Much like Gone Home, I love this game. There's really nothing much to say, you explore a space station and piece together what happened to the crew and it's all wonderfully told and voice acted and engrossing. Solid little game and I look forward to the next Fullbright experience greatly.

Short, sweet, ultimately unremarkable compared to other indie gems that attempt to explore similar themes.

Actually enjoyed this way more than I was expecting. It was one of those games that got released and I didn't hear anything about it, so I figured it was probably pretty mediocre and would have never even touched it if it hadn't landed for free on PSN.
It's honestly pretty damn fun and I played it basically non-stop for a week, completely hooked. The story and characters are interesting, with some really strong performances, especially from Sam Witwer. The combat is satisfying, hefty and chunky, with the real fun being taking on the hordes. Despite performance hiccups, it's just satisfying to be a goddamn Drifter.

This is just Borderlands 2 again, and while I do really like Borderlands 2, I'm not down to play Borderlands 2 again.

Had a really fun time with this one. The cute Pixar art style masks a surprisingly dark story. The exploration is fun and the collect-a-thon aspect felt rewarding. The only downside is the lacklustre and shallow combat. I'm scared that a sequel will just do the same thing, but BIGGER, which I don't think would be as fun.

I'm gonna be honest, I was having a lot of fun with this game, but I am absolutely horrible at platforming and this game just keeps ramping that aspect up as it progresses. I hit a roadblock that I just could not overcome, and I don't know if I'll ever be able to get past it. 2D platformers are my literal gaming kryptonite, so this is an actual skill issue.
I'm shelving this for now, because it is a lot of fun, but like damn bro, can't platformers have an easy mode option?

Pretty good little game. Wish it leaned more toward the psychological horror stuff and less the "murder mystery" plot. Like I was more invested in the game and setting at the beginning, when it was all creepy and unknown, but quickly lost interest when the whole story became apparent. Like there are great and interestingly disturbing environmental designs - especially in the asylum setting - but the actual story is very lacklustre and predictable. Interesting concept though, very Source Code.
