While I prefer Platinum, this is probably the better gen 4 Pokemon game. It has a lot of QOL that Sinnoh was missing even with platinum. I really appreciate how this is the definitive Gen 2 game across all the games. It's got everything in Crystal and didn't skip out on a single feature, even walking Pokemon.
Pokemon Platinum refines all of the problems with Sinnoh. It increases the speed, spices up the Pokedex in ways the original was lacking, made the gym order a LOT better resulting in a more seamless flow throughout the region, and added so many cool features. This is the Pokemon game I go back to the most. Easily my favorite in the franchise.

It started off incredibly strong and charming but once that wore off, the rest of the story was a tropey and inconsistent RPG. I really liked playing it, the systems of combat were fun and exploration was great but the story left a lot to be desired. It felt like Rex was just kinda there, while everyone else talked about stuff that has almost nothing to do with him. It's like playing MGS2 without even playing MGS1 (which I guess is Torna in this case).
I feel like this game highlights the most appealing aspects of the Pokemon franchise. The very colorful and vibrant world, the creative characters, and just seeing Pokemon in a more organic way instead of random encounters all while going on a big adventure is what I want. The gameplay is nothing special but it makes up for that with it's charm.

I beat this game on Wii U but I wanted to replay it. This is a fantastic open world game. It's quite basic but when it comes to checkboxes and exploration, it's great. Also, movie references all over, and ones that kids ABSOLUTELY would not get. Like there's Dirty Harry in the game. There's an entire long-take that's a parody of Goodfellas! There's a whole section dedicated to Shawshank Redemption! You can tell the devs had a fun time making this game.
Being able to play this game finally is a dream come true. This game is way more of an RPG than a lot of the other RGG games (save for 7). There's a lot of grinding for gear and money in this game. It admittedly makes the general pace of the game slow down a lot. Fortunately, a lot of the activities you do to grind for money and such is just fun. I really liked the Another Life side game. It was fun doing all the farming and cooking. Combat is really good but imo, not the best in the series. Because the combat relies too much on gear and combat troopers, it's less of a beat em up than even the other games which is unfortunate. Still it's really fun using the 4 styles. The story playing on Japanese history is really fun. It subverts expectations in clever ways if you know the history of Sakamoto Ryoma and the Bakumatsu period. The journey of the murder mystery and was a huge ride. I wasn't a fan of the substories this time around. There were a lot of good ones but it felt like most of them were friendships instead of regular substories and they're just not nearly as fun here. All in all though, this game is fantastic. It felt like playing 0 again which makes sense because it's basically proto-0. I'm so happy it came out here. I feel 9 years of begging for this game lifted off my shoulders.
It's not perfect but everything comes together for a great RGG experience. I'm so happy Sega finally was able to release this game worldwide.
