just a standard picross/nonagram game but with vocaloid which makes it enough of a winner in my books! avid nonagram players probably aren't gonna find anything particularly challenging here but it's a great time killer

VERY sweet game! a lot of minor spelling errors but it's okay because i've decided my love for my grim reaper wife transcends it all

(finally setting down the switch after playing fashion dreamer from 12am-5am nonstop) It's just ok.

ok, for my serious initial impression: don't expect style savvy from this. the npcs are static and don't really have anything going for them, and there's no story at all. your job this time around is a "virtual influencer" or something like that. except it's not even a job because all you're doing is dressing people up, liking their clothes in order to add them to your own closet, and gaining followers. in fact, the game progression surrounds just that-- gaining followers. and it's not like gaining followers is particularly difficult, either. when you make an outfit, you either get some followers or a lot of them. you can make the most atrocious thing for an npc that doesn't suit their request at all and they'll be like "wow! i love the colors! how strange. good thing i love strange!" and you still win

i do think that if i came in with no style savvy expectations, i'd probably have liked it. in fact, i even think if you came in just for a Dress-Up Game (and only a dress-up game), then you'd love it! the graphics are beautiful and the clothes are everywhere between cute and gorgeous. the character you make is cute, the npcs are cute, everything is cute. in online play mode, you can even dress up other players + see the outfits they designed. you can even receive outfits from them too, which is always nice! in the end though, it just comes down to being a mindless fashion game (that feels like a small upgrade to one of those mobile ones) to play idly for... $45? $50?

another grievance i had was the body type locked clothing. they made sure to define the types as A and B as opposed to "male" and "female" but the clothing was still locked in the same way you'd expect from other games and their gender (?) locking. it was... disappointing. i understand that it's likely to do with trying to adjust clothes to both models but it didn't make me feel any less disappointed about it LOL

that being said, i did wind up coming back to it on and off after my initial 5 hours straight out from launch! so it's not the worst game ever. in fact, since my expectations have been so thoroughly crushed, maybe i'll be able to force myself into loving it for what it is so i don't feel like my money was wasted

EDIT: i couldn't force myself to love it BUT i let my youngest cousin use my switch and i taught him how to play this game since he recently became comfortable with reading. he was able to sit down and play it for around 2-3 hours straight which means my money DID go somewhere thank god

this is the definition of a perfect game btw

docking a star only because finis does a villain laugh almost every time he comes on screen and it annoyed me. shut up little boy (edit: Played the fd. Sorry i said that about you finis)

genuinely the most fun i've ever had with an otome game. how did they do it. someone else said it but it truly is for the girls and the gays

things i enjoyed:
❥ THE SOUNDTRACK oh my god IT'S SOOOO FUN i think it's so cute that all the love interests and lynette have little theme songs
❥ the art and visual design is so fun and poppy and good
❥ i'm the kind of person who dreads bad ends but reads them anyway out of curiosity's sake but this one has like. FUN bad ends. isn't that crazy. i was enjoying myself there too
❥ plot points:
➛ zeus: "the distinction between man and woman is no longer necessary. and no other androgynes need exist apart from myself." <- obsessed with this. zeus validating nb identities and then establishing himself as The Ultimate Non-Binary Person Ever in one breath is hilarious to me
➛ gill transformers fight. what the hell LMFAOOOO
➛ i thought all the little pop culture references were sooo cute
➛ the ultimate Working Couple (shelby/lynette)
➛ FWB? IN MY OTOME GAME? HANDLED NICELY AND WITH RESPECT TO CASUAL RELATIONSHIPS? omg
➛ mars and his stupid little roomba
➛ lynette's transparent little crush on claris. i get that it's supposed to be foreshadowing her being a succubus but there's only so many times u can read lynette thinking "claris' smile made her look like an angel" "claris is the cutest person in the world" before being like Oh. Girl is a little bit in love
➛ Allan Melville

my biggest gripe with this is that it's a bit hard to tell the difference between when lynette is thinking and when she's speaking :(
also otome games also tend to be cishetnormative and this is no exception (outside of zeus being The Non-Binary Entity and one instance where lynette mentions angels potentially being genderless) so i often just try to zone that out, but i do wish that cupid corp wasn't so insistent on Men and Women. the brief moment where raul was like "Oh, Cupid is a woman? So was Cupid and Psyche just a friendship thing?" SIR...
i also have a problem with how los york (assumedly a combo of los angeles and new york) has basically zero diversity but it's a japanese game so that's not surprising

allan > jupiter > raul>/= ryuki > shelby >>>>>> gill

crazy first introduction to puyopuyo

THINGS I LIKED:
- art is pretty
- va is awesome
- i actually managed to finish it
- akaza

THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE:
- mind-numbingly boring despite being full of all kinds of tension. how did they do it
- ok i know otome games are inherently heterosexual so i tend to turn to just letting it slide but by god is this (cis)heterosexual i don't know how many times they repeat the whole "long ago humans were one soul.. until they split into man and woman.." thing as well as the whole You Must Find A Mate to Breed thing. oh my god. Oh wow
- i loved kuroba but he was saddled with quite possibly one of the worst routes i've played like ever that wasn't straight up offensive
- felt like more of a timekiller to me than an actual game to enjoy
- a frankly offensive amount of flashbacks that i cannot rationalize as anything other than some ppl on the team trying to set this game up for failure because what the hell
- not enough camellia
- i'm usually good at turning my brain off when it comes to plot holes or bad deus ex machina moves but holy god. not this time around, clearly

tbh this was a worldbuilding mess but i loved koharu and i HEARD that the sequel clears up a lot of it and also i did have fun so it's alright. i guess. did you know the love interests have their own character songs. isn't that crazy. stream jiyuu na sora e by ichinose senri (cv. shimono hiro)

sasazuka is my wif;e

went into this blind and was unpleasantly surprised by the fact that it's about how "actually yeah i guess the cops r bad but mostly they're right". but with enough mind numbing u can make do

when i was in third grade a boy who liked me straight up gave me his copy of this because i expressed interest in it so now i'm obligated to like it bc i feel bad about it. I'm sorry dude. Thank u for the game though

an otome classic in every way. but GOD i wish there was a senhime route

as for a personal ranking of routes, i'd say souma > the original love interests including kazama > yamazaki > the new routes which basically translates into "i think the original routes were better in general and the new routes definitely felt like a disjunct in quality but i just liked souma so much and i thought yamazaki was a lovely person"

i ended this with yukimura and while it was probably the best choice narratively, it made me very sad and i wish i got it out of the way earlier and did souma or like. kazama last or something. just so i could have something to smile about

terrible at writing reviews so here r brief thoughts on every route (romance only bc yukimura route was essentially a summary that ended in sadness)

hijikata - one of the few exceptions to my poster boy indifference (i liked him)
okita - WOW i love you
saito - I love him too
heisuke - objectively like the best. probably
harada - i love him but i hate the choices u make to get his good ending
nagakura - i think the hakuoki writers hated him
sanan - the hakuoki writers loved him. in this case, it was me who hated him
yamazaki - he is so nice and sweet and nice and just a swell guy
iba - i liked him when i was playing his route i guess but after it ended it felt like waking up from hypnosis. He's ok
souma - of course the one character i actually genunely wanted to pursue and loved from the beginning is the one with the route in which everyone fucking dies
sakamoto - i was bored until i realized the writers probably shipped him with his boy best friend (nakaoka) and probably could not bring themselves to write him real chemistry with chizuru. they should've just let him have his high stakes tragic love story with him and given chizuru a shiranui route instead ( i love shiranui)
kazama - i went in ready to be a hater but i genuinely liked his route soooo much i didn't rank the og routes but if i did he'd probably be at the top
senhime - there is no senhime route but for most of the other routes i was just sitting there consumed in a longing for senhime route she is to me what tomoda is to nozaki and mikorin in gekkan shoujo nozaki-kun SHE JUST MAKES SENSE SHE WAS AT CHIZURU'S SIDE THE WHOLE TIME!!!!!! SHE WAS DOING EVERYTHING FOR HER!!!!!!!!! Senhime you are seen and heard in my mind. And i love you. And i'm sorry

although romance is not the crux of the story, love is

thought it was going to be like a melodramatic cheesy little love story but it ended up being an entirely heartwrenching mystery and i'm so sad. I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS WAS FREE i am staring at the post-epilogue title screen right now entirely bereft. but also satisfied. But mostly like sad

really pretty art and yes it did feel a little cheesy and cliche every once in a while but ultimately i adored this

once i realized this was a game based on an rp group, things made a lot more sense!

the pixel art is gorgeous and the whole project is incredibly endearing. all routes feel more like first steps in a friendship/relationship/potential murder but that's understandable given that there r more than 25 target characters and that said characters are all a bunch of people's ocs from a pre-existing universe as opposed to characters designed for a player character to come in and wow! there are also a lot of explicitly french characters which isn't that important but i thought it was funny

had lots of fun. i love u titus, dinae, arbor, luca (with warmth and affection) and bugbear (with regret and fear)

it's hilarious if you turn your brain off and treat this like anything other than an otome game
