to quote the friend i forced to play this, this feels like a game that doesn't want you to actually play it. the stage titlecards are an ultra q reference though, so that's nice.

you have to grow your rhythm banana by playing every day. funky kong uses the first person pronoun "me". like, literally the english first person pronoun "me", where a typical japanese first person pronoun would go. there are like four naruto openings in this one. im pretty sure this is the one with the puffy song in it. megumi hayashibara and koichi yamadera sing the donkey kong country opening and ending themes bc they voice donkey kong and diddy kong respectively in the show's japanese dub. these got better with each entry. gotta leave em wanting more.
ntsc-j. feels a lot better than 1 and i really like the cute little background environments but the way donkey kong stares at you unbroken while you make your song choice is really unsettling and also most of the songs are trash midi-based cover versions. the version of overdrive by the hit band the best band of all time judy and mary on this thing is literally incomprehensible bc of the guitar samples they used, LOL. nice try guys.
