2023

EDIT: HOLY SHIT ITS KINOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NEVER LISTEN TO MESSAGE BOARDS FOR ANYTHINGGGGGG
---
earlier thoughts before i reached enlightenment:
so does the game get worse later on or is it just weirdly pedantic people being obsessed over the fake bnuuys or the the artstyle shift etc. ???

(speaking as a huge fan of rabi-ribi, i cant see anything wrong with this game so far, its just pure fun.
if something does feel off towards the end, i'll mention it in a future edit. otherwise, im already liking this game more than the first one)

ive listened to bright sandstorm every day for the past 11 months since this game released, and i can confidently say that its my favourite FE battle theme ever.
the rest of this game's soundtrack is pretty neat, but holy shit does bright sandstorm and its variations just completely mog the shit out of everything else.

such a radiant theme to go alongside some of my favourite FE maps of recent memory (ch13's night village is so fucking good OH MY GOD)
i especially like this dual-mix - 1:26 is just PURE LUDOKINO-BUMPS: https://youtu.be/3ag9GtZI17U?si=DSXmMViAJmD1xz6c
ive listened to it so much i can literally pick out all the instruments in both calm and fiery now 😭😭😭😭

((is it just me or does FE map music hit harder on maddening/lunatic modes exclusively??? i swear, it makes me feel like a master tactician or something 😭😭))

anyways i just wanted to have a late night ramble about this game, i truly and utterly love it so much - goofy plot and all. of course, theres always things i strongly wish it did better, but i could say the same for all FE titles. i just love this series so much, man. please play this game, its the coziest feel-good experience ever.

Brrr, Skibidi dop dop dop
The Skibidi toilets are about to drop some heat
On this kindergarten FNAF rip-off, yes, yes!
On another dimension like it's 4D chess
Got views in the billions
Racking up the dough, while you're scrambling for the dividends
You're not getting me spooked, SFM
But between us, I'm the YouTube and you're the poop
Get that Skibidi W, reeh, reeh
Gonna Skibidi body you, EZ
Get you Skibidi down on your knees, knees
So you can Skibidi dop on deez, hmm

having waited for the localisation for SO DAMN LONG, this game should be allowed to be considered for GOTY 2023.

holy shit i cant stop listening to Beats from Above, literal god tier track from an already amazing game.
(its actually insane how good klonoa is compared to his psx scrimblo compatriots. genuinely timeless series)

Short and sweet, a very delightful platformer that doesn't overstay its welcome (if you don't go out of your way to try and find all those damn EXP cubes.)
I'm especially a huge fan of its overall grunge... AND GOD, DOES USING THAT DRILL SLAM FEEL GOOD -

(also, i actually adore that hand-drawn artstyle used in promotional material, its KINO)

Helped me get a Melmetal, which in turn gave me a topic of conversation when talking to the girl in my art class who exclusively drew Eeveelutions.
Thank you, Let's Go Pikachu.

Absolutely sinister that you have to sit through the credits each time you beat a world. By far the most obnoxious thing I've seen ever.

despite being a true coalescence of Epsteinian ideals, i look back on the time i spent with this game quite fondly.

alicesoft never misses

EDIT: the more time i spend away from this game, the more kino i think it is. imma just give it 4 stars cause goddamn alicesoft actually never misses

It's utterly depressing how under-the-radar a gem like this will continue to be - and not in the way that would further accentuate its' beauty. I genuinely need more people to play this game.

Gorgeous, detailed environments reminiscent of a cutesy Book of Kells accompanied by a soundtrack so lovely and enchanting - despite reminding me of dreadful Monday morning Irish classes back in secondary school. If forest fairies took part in game development, this game would surely be their end product.

While the combat initially does feels rather boring, the game does TRY (huge emphasis on "try") to find ways to deter mindless mashing, which I do appreciate. It's more so an experience where you get lost within its' wistful world and quaint story surrounding Cereza's relationship with that big ass cat that chuffs fat darts - so I'm kinda okay with the less than stellar mob fights (which would normally be a huge dealbreaker for me, with how much I've always valued the importance of good battle mechanics).

Overall, it embodies the same warmness that Clover Studio used to emanate back in its' heyday, so if you know what that entails, then I'm sure you'll understand why I think so highly of this game.

Not to get all "soul/soulless/blahblahwordswordswords", but this game truly feels like it was made with the most honest and sheer of love. Please consider giving it a try - it needs those sales way more than Bayonetta 3 does, anyways.

errrmmmm... LAME!! clean-up on aisle... LOSERVILLE!

I adored the soundtrack, at least.

Just have to get this out first: The sheer spectacle of the boss fights alone makes the 10 year old in my heart go wild. Holy fucking RAW.

My favorite modern Sonic game of recent memory. Still not a fan of the lack of momentum (Sonic is still too stiff, even after making adjustments to the control sliders), and I wasn't all that invested in the plot or writing - however, this is a very lovely stepping stone for the next entry in the series to jump from. I'm expecting very good things from Sonic Team in the future.
