i was thinking the same thing the other day. people REALLY freak out about sonic adventure 1 & 2 when i think their contemporaries like mario sunshine and gex are far more offensive.

@gruel for me i just compare it to mario 64. everyone talks about this and that with regards to the jump to 3d and imo this stuck the landing way better. half of 64 bores the shit out of me, but this game never really felt like a drag. even in big's stages, which i find funny for how much hate they get because most people spend more time fishing with him in frontiers than they ever would here - and this game's fishing is way fuckin' better

sunshine also happens to be my favorite 3d mario along with odyssey lmao. i find people are whiny about it for similar reasons (it's weird = it's bad). it's always either that or they fall back onto the blue coin argument, to which i say "don't 100% the game if doing so frustrates you!"

like iunno man take me to amy's twinkle park or knuckles' sky deck over hazy maze cave or dire dire docks any fucking day of the week

video games these days are afraid of being video games. and sonic adventure? buddy, sonic adventure is VIDEO FUCKING GAMES.

I come in late but I genuinely think this game has actually insanely good controls, I always love how vets get their hands on this game and tear it apart by abusing its absurd movement system; personally, my favourite thing about this game is its overall "vibe", games like this one, JSR and NiGHTS have some of my favourite aesthetics in videogames.
